It's a shame that the Borris Avdeyev death, for messing up the Olympics Opening Ceremony, story turned out to be a hoax. I was hoping that failure in a global setting would now equal death in Russia, and that LJ would get the hint! :)

***

Something that I wish had been a hoax is that I clicked on something ridiculous today, and got what I deserved.

It was a story with the headline that Beatles fans were upset with Katy Perry. I missed the tribute last night, but I was curious about what horrible thing she could have done.

It turns out that she changed the lyric "man" to "girl" in "Yesterday". You know, much like people do when they are female and sing a song originally performed by a guy, or the other way around.

The internet outrage turns out to be just a couple people with nothing better to do. But for some reason this was on the front page of Yahoo this morning.

Yes, I was suckered in my click bait. We all have been. Some people even write it, because it's easy money. I get it. I still don't like it.

Is the world really so hard up for things to talk about that we need to find that smallest percent of idiots and give them a soapbox, in order to make a little money? Are we really that bored that we want to read it, and join in the comments page? Seriously people, the only comments pages you should EVER read are in LJ Idol!! Ignore the rest of them! :)

Earlier this year I publicly announced that I would do everything I could to stop clicking anything shared on Facebook that has a click bait title. I have so much more time to spend doing things I actually legitimately want to do now! If I'm bored, I just pick up my Kindle and read a book instead. ;)

Yeah, sometimes I'm kind of astounded that people actually repost some of the stuff that gets reposted...stuff like, "YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE WHAT THIS WOMAN HAS TO SAY ABOUT MEN" and it's a calm woman talking about how men are pretty okay dudes or something completely believable. I've stopped clicking on anything that tells me I won't believe it or I will be astounded or that this will BLOW MY MIND....

*nodding* Yep, I feel like I've been duped enough by them that I just don't want to bother any more. Give me something more descriptive on a topic I'm interested in, and then maybe I'll click.

I avoid those as well on principle.

I wish I could say it would help make them go away, but somehow I doubt the non-clickers would have a big enough impact. :/

Even when I don't regret reading an article, I always regret reading the comments. Always. Except here, because people here are awesome and not idiots.

Greetings all! Click bait headlines really irk me and I tend to stay away from sources that use them.

On a slightly unrelated note: I wrote a Headline this morning for work that I hope will never be viewed as click bait.

I watched a peace on netflix titled Titanoboa.
While it sounds like the title of a fun made for scyfy channel movie its actually a cool Smithsonian channel thing.
Yes they found the fossil remains of a massive snake and named it Titanoboa.
This got me surfing around science article for a little light reading.
The snake itself if super neat and the show quit informitive.
I have not been to the Yahoo.com home page in ages and even if I had I would not have bothered with anything about Katy Perry. Corse that's just me.
I see a head line like "planet found in goldylocks zone of binary system " and I am on it faster then a dog on a T bone (which we got great deal on this month) something about some singer or actor (unless its someone like Hugh Jackman) and I zone it out.

If KP had said "man" then people probably would have been making dumb comments about that too... you can't win.
