I was looking at our Top Five and trying to figure out if I COULD just pick one, who would it be? People have different criteria for that sort of thing, but the main one would be "Be an Awesome Writer". All Five have ticked off that particular box. My second would be "Be a good person/representative of Idol" = who would I want to have "out there in the world" being the face of Exhibit B? Well, *some* of them qualify for that one too. ;P

My own mental tie-breaker though, as the guy who has to turn around and in a few months/years, tell people what was special about Exhibit B is "What is their story?" and the more that I thought about the Top 5, the more difficult the decision on "Who would You Pick?" became. Because they all have a really good narrative to offer on how they got to this point, and their place in Idol.

It makes me grateful to my Season 3 self for putting the new policy in place that I would vote for everyone, thus nullifying my potential influence and showing support for everyone. Because if I had to cast an actual vote for a winner at this point, I have no idea what I'd be doing!

It also occurred to me that no matter who wins, at this point, the "Typical Idol Winner" - white, female from the Eastern US isn't going to happen. Well, at least one of those things isn't going to happen. ;)

Whatever the outcome, if it's anything like the rest of this mini-season has been, it's going to be interesting!

I *can* say that the person who I thought "Wow, they could actually WIN this" on Day 1 *is* still in the competition.

I will also say that there are a few people who I also put in that category, who are no longer in the competition.

Which is why we play things out over time, because who knows who will emerge during the process!!

I tend to have a short list of people that I *think* I will be seeing at the end, and over time I find new surprises that I wasn't expecting. It's what keeps things interesting for me!

Thinking of home-gaming. Not sure what, though. This week was a "break week" for me, in terms of writing. Just writing whatever first came to mind.

I am somewhat intrigued as to why there's a Top 5, when the original plan was to go from Top 8 to Top 4, and we've been eliminating people in painful chunks each round.

What made you change your mind? Total regroup, because why the hell not? Or something else?

I think the complaints were not so much "eliminating four" as they were, "eliminating four with these artificial groups." There's a big difference!

All groups are artificial in one way or another. Selecting your own fate in the game by selecting someone to work with/against is giving people a chance to influence their own fate!

That round had been played, just not finished. Which means that I had to restructure how we get to the end. The end is still the same as it has been since the start, but when there is a major obstacle dropped in the middle of the path, sometimes you have to think on your feet and come up with an alternate route.

Of course, if I did it at Reddit, 3/4 of the questions would be "Who are you and why do you think we want to ask you anything?"

Doing it here though... that might be a possibility. Of course I'm not sure what would be asked and if I could actually answer it. So it would have to be an AMA, with limits. :)

As a post-Idol thing or right now?

Because every day is a bit of an AMA. People are constantly asking me questions and I answer them the best that I can. Of course the "what did you think of my entry in Week 8 of Season 7 (or even stuff from this season) I'll probably have to actually go look up, because there's very little chance that I remember it or what I thought at the time. I also wouldn't answer anything that was insulting to another contestant. So I'm not sure what people would actually want to know that I haven't answered a ton of times already! :)
