Weekend was a mixed bag - kiddo was really tired from back to school and it was her first week at elementary. She had a birthday party on Saturday afternoon too. Sunday we just did nothing, and my weekend ended with giving a kitten a bath because she fell into the toilet pot (just a few hours after I reassured kiddo it wasn't a problem if they jumped on the seat when she used the toilet, they wouldn't fall in >.>). Of course, the lid was up and it wasn't flushed because kiddo didn't pay attention, and there was pee everywhere. Hence, a bath xD
At least I got some work and writing done, that's something.
I never know what have these cultural references mean.
A week ago, something about a video caused me to go off chasing a bunch of articles on "Child celebrities-- what do they look like now?" and "Best unscripted movie moments"... and then never watch the actual video. :O
The weekend was HOT here, so most of it was spent inside. I hate Sacramento summers.
Weekend was good, though there were some exasperating parts. Highlights:
- First meeting of a class that meets two Saturdays a month. I am really enjoying it so far.
- Trying to set up a birthday party for Alex, when there was a lot of the delayed-RSVP problem and such, and she wanted a Pokemon-themed party. Lots of running around shopping.
- I lost my wallet! Thankfully it was almost immediately found and turned into the security desk at the mall, and because a) I was visibly wearing the glasses I wear in my driver's license photo and b) the wallet is made from the same (fairly unusual) fabric as the whole purse, there was no doubt it was me.
- Church was awesome. My spouse is still getting lots of compliments on his singing, which makes us happy, and Alex got to read the opening prayer. She reads so well and so expressively! I'm very proud of her.
- Then we had The Party. It went really, really well. I bought a bunch of little Pokemon figures (one for every expected guest plus extras) and half-red half-clear balls (not real "Pokeballs" but close enough) and sent them on a hunt through the park we had the party at. Then I had different color wrapped chocolate coins to represent the badges, and then the pre-packaged blindfold-and-stick-a-sticker type of game with a Pokemon theme. And of course the usual cake, ice cream, and pinata. One girl who was apparently all "well, Alex and I aren't *that* good of friends" now wants to know when she and Alex can get together and play again. And Alex's two "favorite friends" were there and all having a blast, and one of the girls from church came too! SO MUCH FUN OMG.
Awesome weekend was awesome if exhausting. The only bad part is I seem to be dealing with Cellulitis Round Three and it is seriously gross. :(
Went to the Latino Fest on Saturday, the local Kiwanis craft Fest on Sunday plus took the Mothership to the doc-in-a-box because she has some weird skin irritation/ infection. Oh, yeah... And my memoir became a live eBook last night! Woot! Woot! AW
Re the teenage-girls-shouldn't-post-sexy-selfies letter -
I finally put my finger on the thing that's bothering me the most about Kim Hall (the original blogger)'s post.
She's a Christian, writing about how to live a Christian life. I'm pretty sure that "Your sexuality makes me uncomfortable so I'm going to ostracize you and encourage others to do likewise" is exactly the opposite of What Jesus Would Do.
It seems exactly how many "born again Christian" ministers would act, unfortunately. I grew up with several Kim Hall types in my family, and this type of misogyny is rampant, and always has been.
"Your sexuality makes me uncomfortable so I'm going to ostracize you and encourage others to do likewise"
This is, like, Texas Theology 101. (Seriously, as soon as I read that letter, I knew the fuckwit was from Texas before I even googled to confirm.)
This is also the backbone (if you can even call it that) of just about every homophobic argument under the sun, in addition to being a lovely excuse for the type of misogynistic BS in that letter.
Seattle was awesome fun. I nearly missed my plane (like, it left at 1. I got on board at 12:58. OMG I reallllllly hate being late). I am super tired. I am also in the air right now, having splurged on in-air wifi. Whooo... expect more incoherent comments soon. *hugs the green room*. I'm coming hoooome yay!
There are now thumbnails on my lj, but Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/smoopybean/sets/72157635465495194/) has big pictures. Not my best dye job, but it was fun nonetheless.
