Welcome to our newest Idol member and special judge for this week: Miley Cyrus.

In case of a tie, she will be casting the deciding vote (after a special performance)in our latest poll http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/687186.html

Her decision-making skills are legendary, so I know that we won’t have a problem.

I have already voted and have my fingers crossed for my favorites.

Busy actually writing this morning and freaking out because my son'll be able to start school next Monday at the absolute latest. Huge changes in routine are not looked upon fondly 'round these parts.

Happy First to you and First School Day to your son! Change is hard, indeed. AW

Change is hard -- especially for a kid who's developmental delays point towards AS. ;) He'll adjust; it's just going to be a rough week or two while he does. And same for me -- I can't "sleep in" until 8 anymore. ;)

But a glorious two hours where I can write without interruption 5 days a week? That'll be awesome.

I'm glad his developmental delays were found early enough. :) It can make all the difference in the world.

He's almost 4. A year ago, we thought he was starting to catch up, some, but he stalled again over the course of the year. I'm just glad he'll still have 2 years to catch up instead of just 1, since he'll be starting kindergarten just before he turns 6 instead of just before turning 5.

It kills me, though, because the kid is very smart even if he can't communicate the way he should. He loves to learn, too.

If it's any "help", my now almost 6 year old used to be the same, extremely smart but school was just not working (to the point where they thought she wouldn't be able to go to elementary school) and she wasn't doing well making friends, cried not to have to go to school etc. Didn't help she's one week with me, one week with her father. However, last 6 months of kindergarten (at 5 years old) made all the difference it seems. I hope it goes smoothly for your son!

Kiddo liked his classroom when we went to go check it out, last week. Just being able to sneak out without him freaking out is going to be a whole different story. Kiddo is very attached to me, right now.

My daughter's teachers gave really interesting advice, but it worked. The trick is to leave his field of vision quickly, according to many preschool teachers. Not necessarily leave the building, just the room. Prolonged goodbyes often make it worse.

Or first day, we waited in a separate room for fifteen minutes after the first drop off, and we utilized that space for a few weeks afterward. In some cases, it was harder for us than for her.

That said, if your teacher is amenable, you can always consult with them beforehand.

I honestly think the first day, he's not even going to notice. I'm gonna get him in the classroom, he'll run off, and I'll be outtie, lol. Because he's gonna want to play with all of the pretty toys and pretty much forget I exist, lol.

The school has an actual car drop off/pick up system that'll be interesting. Kiddo doesn't like getting out of the carseat without being a jerk about it. And by being a jerk, I mean escaping it and climbing over to the opposite seat you're trying to get him from.

Ah, Miley. She used to be such a *good* kid...

In other news, I'm looking forward to heading on down to Dragon*Con this weekend - w00t! If anyone else here is going to be there and wants to try to meet up, let me know and I'll send you a friend code for the Dragon*Con iPhone app, or I'll email/PM you my cell number if you don't have the app. I love meeting new folks, even though I can be a bit shy in person. :)

They're talking about her on The View right now. She's like every other former child star in trying to revamp her image so people won't solely remember her as Hannah Montana. Time will tell if it works, though.

Ah, Dragon Con. I wish I could go but like most conventions I simply don't have the money. :(

She's just following in the steps of every other child star (well maybe not every one). At least she's not going the Lindsey Lohan route.

I know, right? Lindsey Lohan is such a mess... ugh.

I'm not panicking about the poll as I have in the past. I've made it farther then I ever thought I would. :)

I tried to get some writing done but my new kitten keeps wanting to play. Surprise there! Haha.

Nervous about the poll, ready to spend the day rewriting a bunch of work stuff that I've been doing off and on since Feburary and could not quite make work in the conceptualization my co-worker was demanding.

I looked at some other people's examples last Friday, and discovered that NO ONE was doing it the way this guy insisted on. This leaves me free to approach it now in a way that actually makes sense. \o/

I am so. tired. I stayed up until four last night just messing around on the internet. It was just so compelling... one... more.... link. Sometimes I make questionable decisions.

The poll is so amazingly close. I'm kind of twitching over here watching it! I hope Miley is prepared to make some really tough calls, because a tie or two or three or seven seems like it could totally happen... (things I wonder sometimes: what would happen if we all got the same number of votes in a poll? Unlikely, I know, but I do think about these things.)

I'm going to tear myself away from the refresh button and go play a video game. Today calls for some mindless whumping of monsters.

I don't recall there ever being more than maybe a 3-way tie, especially not in the smaller sized polls. I think if all 10 people tied Week 13 would be a wash and Week 14 would go on as usual, but I don't see that happening!

Also, completely unrelated to anything in this particular corner of the internet, but this (http://whatever.scalzi.com/2013/08/26/to-the-dudebro-who-thinks-hes-insulting-me-by-calling-me-a-feminist/) made me actually laugh out loud this morning. John Scalzi is pretty neat.

Also, because this is the sort of thing I think fellow writers will find fascinating too - I discovered Ask The Past (http://askthepast.blogspot.com/) last night, and WOW did I lose a lot of time to it. I share the wacky advice from books of the past with you now. Go forth, and use this knowledge for good and not evil. Or if it's evil, make it interesting evil, at least.

I love how pretty much all of them are like, "Just keep writing and finish shit. It'll be good for you." Which is true. Finishing stuff is so vastly important.

I don't think Miley will like any of the entries. Not enough cultural appropriation (or misappropriation) in any of them.

Anybody done anything "refreshing" this afternoon?

Here's a funny I will share - LJ sent me an email to warn me about the expiration of my paid account, and I guess they use the name of your journal as the name to greet you with, and since it's not a letter, they don't start with "Dear" or anything like that.

So I get this email from LiveJournal, and I open it, and it says:

blahblahblah, whatever,

Your LiveJournal paid account...

All business emails should start out as honestly. :)
