Green Room - Week 11 - Day 5
Aug. 6th, 2013 06:59 amThe entries are being posted at http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/680460.html and given what I've seen so far, this could be one of those "tough weeks" to decide who should stay and who should go. I mean, OK, ultimately all of you should go. But it's a matter of who does week to week! ;)
I actually have the day off in order to take my niece-to-be to Disney. So if you need anything, I probably won't respond until tonight. Yes, I just let you know that I wouldn't be around. Try not to burn the place down before I get back.
I expect to see it in the same condition I left it - and this post to be overflowing with comments!
So get to it!

Date: 2013-08-06 11:00 am (UTC)The last 18 or so hours have been a nightmare here. Ember Dog almost was killed yesterday (her leash was caught in the Jeep door and got caught under the rear wheel) and she basically hasn't moved since we got home. I know accidents happen and all that but I can't help but feeling it's all my fault :(

One entry done, one to go...

Date: 2013-08-06 01:06 pm (UTC)Ember eventually made it downstairs on her own with me facing her and walking downstairs backward. I kept telling her she wouldn't fall, and she didn't. Got her to go outside. I let her meander around the yard to work out the kinks. She came back to the house on her own. One of her back legs looks out of joint, like she can't really bend it. She drank some water and settled in her hidey hole behind the armchair.
God, I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack. I'm usually not this -- I dunno, dramatic, maybe? -- but I'm scared and I'm worried and anxious and I'm all by myself. So thank you for putting up with all this :GROUP HUG:

Date: 2013-08-06 02:33 pm (UTC)Only the Sims community is much smaller than it was back when I was writing Valley and averaging 600-800 views a day and pulling in 1000-1200 or so on update days.
I looked at my referrals to get an idea of where I could advertise the new story, and the forum where I got like 7000 clicks is dead now.
So...yeah. I know some of you are into Sims, and some of you aren't but you still read my Sims work. I know that all of you are writers. Do you know of any places where writers hang out and there might be people amenable to checking out my stuff even if it has Sims pictures?
Also, if any of you want to read it - I'm posting it on my LJ as well as my WordPress.

Date: 2013-08-06 07:25 pm (UTC)On a completely different note, does anyone have suggestions for YA books with awesome female protagonists with very little or no emphasis on romantic/sexual relationships? This is for a 12 year old - I've got some ok stuff for her younger sister and brother, but it's all a little under her reading level. Any genre within YA is fine. Thanks! (And yes, I have an agenda here - she has been focused on "boyfriends" and "cheating" and "dating" since she was six, due to dysfunctional family issues - but I'm ok with having an agenda. And if they're awesome stories my agenda will be way less obvious, I hope).

Date: 2013-08-06 11:02 pm (UTC)Hrmmm...
It is really discouraging that I, with my love of YA books, can't think of any books with great female protagonists that don't involve romance in some way.
I mean, there's Nancy Drew, but that's a little old-fashioned (and she has a boyfriend, even if he's useless when it comes to her investigations).
Clearly I need to start writing YA novels with awesome female protagonists. Romance-free. I always wanted to be a YA novelist.
You know, someone who writes great characters, including great females, is Chris Crutcher. His day job is counseling, and he addresses lots of tough issues in great ways. He doesn't shy away from the subject of sex in any of his novels, but he's writing for teenagers, mainly about athletes. She might like Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes. (I love Sarah Byrnes as a character--you may want to read a chapter on amazon.com and see if this is the sort of thing that would work.)
