I just started The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss. I finished the first book and felt the need to run out and get the second. A friend of mine, in finding out that I had never read The Name of the Wind rushed out to a bookstore and bought me the first one. As I was finishing it, I realized that I had a gift card from Christmas that I had, for some reason, never ended up using. Which makes this the best free series that I have ever owed!! (I can’t say “read”, because I’ve checked out plenty of great series from the library)

What is the best free series of books you have ever owned? Read?

What is the worst – the ones that made you just throw the book across the room?

What is the best series of links you’ve ever read? Oh yeah, the ones to the entries DUE TONIGHT: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/675235.html followed by those for the Home Game: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/675965.html

I love how there are so many of us who still haven't posted their entry yet. Granted, mine's written, just going through the rounds of edits/nitpicks that I've neglected the past couple of weeks.

I have a feeling mine'll be up by noon, though. :) We're a bunch of last minute procrastinators/junkies, aren't we? ;)

Oh, nice. I'm first. xD

Yay first!

I am also a procrastinator. Not on purpose though. I guzzled caffeine last night with the intention of finishing my entry, but I got brain fried about halfway through, needed to sleep for a bit to reset my neural circuitry... and can't fall asleep. I've been trying for two hours. This is not useful!

Rawr. Back to the entry, I guess! Are there still any of those chains left from yesterday's GR? I need to keep myself from wandering off, mentally or otherwise.

Yay first!

I was surprised at how few entries were up when I posted last night. I have to say, Monday deadlines work well for me - I never know how late I'm going to have to work or if I'll want to go somewhere after, so I make sure to get my entry done and posted Sunday night! It's a relief, not having to sweat the deadline.

I had the hardest freaking time this week. I just could not come up with anything good, although I eventually got something sort of okay. I still need to futz around with it a bit before posting, though, and I'm debating whether I should dump it on my sockpuppet again or suck it up and post it to my real account.

Yay first! Eight have posted links, which means that 26 haven't as yet (if my spreadsheet is right, we're down to 34). I don't know if people just LIKE to do everything last-minute or if they are not wanting everyone else to know which topic they've chosen!

It took me six tries and more than 2,500 words, but I finally have something worth editing. These topics were hard.

The best free books I've ever read… It would depend on your definition of "free," I suppose. /ahem My mom bought all of my Harry Potter books, so they were free for me, and I checked out every Redwall book in only a few months.

I didn't get them for free, but those books you mentioned are just MADE OF AWESOME. ^_^

I should write something for the Home Game. If I can get my brain to cooperate...brains have got to be some of the LEAST cooperative organs, ever.

I don't know that there is any series I own that was entirely gifted to me/bought with gift cards. Oooh, except maybe The Chronicles of Narnia--I originally read them on loan from my sixth grade teacher, then later received a boxed set of the paper backs (I still have them) as a gift, and later yet received a full hardcover set as a gift. So that's the best free series I've ever owned. The best free series I've ever read but not owned is probably Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising series (please please please do not avoid this series on account of the craptacular piece of crap movie adaptation).

I don't even care that both of those series are children's/YA (Besides, the Narnia books are classic, they shouldn't carry genre stigma anymore). They are made of awesome.

I need to read The Name of the Wind. I've heard nothing but good things about it, but I have such a long to-read list already that it hasn't made its way into my hands yet.

I don't read quite as much as I used to, although of course I still do read a few dozen actual books (or kindle books) a year! I can't remember which ones were free (as in given to me or borrowed), but I rarely want to throw a book across the room. If I can't get into it after the second or third chapter (and that's being generous) it will get tossed aside and eventually brought to a used book store or given to someone else!

I got posted at 2:00 this morning, then woke up around 5:45, fell back to sleep around 6:00, and finally had to get up for work around 7:30. Ugh. Need more caffeine!

I have a terrible memory so I can't recall anything about the books I've owned. The worst one is 50 Shades of Grey, lol. My wife dared me to read it and I did.

After I was done I had to purge my mind.

The best free-to-me books I've read were favorited of my mom and sister: the Deed of Paksenarrion trilogy, the Sword-Dancer (Tiger and Del) series, and Sue Grafton's alphabet mysteries. All of those are still much beloved by all of us! We've owned multiple copies of all of them, because we literally read them to pieces. I haven't done a Paks reread in a while; think I'll do that when I'm done with Hunger Games.

My parents got two ADORABLE kittens on Friday! I'm not going to visit for another couple weeks and that makes me sad - I want to meet them!

I just finished those two books. A friend did the same for me when he found out I had not read them. I forced myself to go slow on book two, since 3 is not expected until 2014. I finally finished last night. I loved both books so much and I was sad to finish up. I got so emotionally invested in the characters. :)
