Waterspouts are forming outside of my former apartment! Dogs and cats are living side by side! And, yes, I am officially moved. More importantly, ‘Merica has gained three more permanent residents. It’s the biggest increase in the history of the country. Clearly, we need immigration reform! Where is Marco Rubio when we need him?

Working on silly self-publishing adventures that involve smut. And honestly, I don't know who might be struggling in the polls this week. Contestant only weeks usually give those who are underdogs a little more chance to shine, since those of us who are competing kinda *have* to read if we're gonna give everyone a fair shake. ;)

And since we're picking out 30 names to vote for, well... I dunno. I like to think things are close, right now. :)

Honestly, I don't think comments reflect votes at all. I've played many seasons of Idol and I often go out on entries that received a lot of comments. It's not really a good way to gauge who might be voting for me. (Just my experience)

I've been feeling kinda quiet lately - slow to catch up on comments and correspondence, and I've been all hermit-like from my friends in meatspace too. It'll pass, but I apologize for my quiet in the meantime. I'm about 3/4 of the way through reading everyone, and plan to go through and do some more commenting when I'm done.

It's awfully tricky to tell in a week like this what is (and will be) getting lots of love and what's a little neglected. There have been a lot of nifty things! I'll give it some thought, and hopefully have an answer once I've finished reading and voting and looking at the entirety of the group rather than just what I've read so far.

But first, running around town and doing errands! gotta go do the dumb things I gotta do...

Whaddup, GR! I'm only halfway through the entries right now, but from the first half of the alphabet, my rec list is: acalculatedname, halfshellvenus, kathrynrose, lrig_rorrim, and meepalicious (who's posting as damn_magician this week).

I've been going out a ton lately, celebrating my first week of freedom from educational enslavement. Hangovers are happening, late night shenanigans are happening more, ridiculous hair dye definitely happened, and my "professional" clothes have been joyously exiled to the back of the closet where they can spend the next month and a half rotting in the dark.

Speaking of clothes, I need to dig through my wardrobe to try and find something orange, because I'm seriously thinking about going to Austin next week to join in the "Fuck you, Rick Perry, shove your special session up your arse" protests.

Sharing this link to an amazing article I just read. On the surface, it's about the Paula Deen issue, but it's also about the history of Southern food, and it's an example of being gracious and using these kinds of moments as an opportunity to make a difference and move on.

I'm all kinds of impressed with this writer, and having said that, it's just a really well-written article in case anyone wants to read a well-written nonfiction essay that is going viral.

I have had another busy week of writing articles, taking KFP to the library for enrichment activities (yesterday, on Australian culture, today on worms and gardening). I'm going to read some entries now while KFP plays kitchen at thr library with a 5-year-old girl. He has a "basket for goodies" and is carting around produce for her. I think he's the sous chef.

I've been hiding from a metric tonne of work I have to finish ASAP and then there's more after that deadline, and following the Wendy Davis filibuster, DOMA/prop 8 votes and things like that in the USA. My daughter just had her last day of kindergarten which is both happy and sad and she also lost her first tooth while they went to visit the elementary school she's going to next year.

All in all, very very busy. I'll read after my first deadline is over! That said, is it me or are comments very few and far in between? Or is it just general LJ is dead and I just miss the comments from my now pretty much completely inactive FL!

I think comments are down. I haven't had many visitors to my page either, which scares me a little. I'm hoping maybe a lot of people are waiting for the weekend to vote, since we got the extra time.

The last time I was booted was during a contestant-only vote, and with no poll to watch it makes me nervous. Plus, I wrote fiction this week, which, you know, not my comfort zone. ::shrug::

About halfway through, I was thinking, "Wait. What am I missing? Did this author take crack before writing this?" Then when I finished, I went to start over, for another go, and saw it was written by Steve Martin. I'm going to assume it's THE Steve Martin. Reading it in his manic thingsgetruntogether voice makes much more sense.

We got home from Vegas around 10:30 this morning, and after a light snack and getting caught up on one (of two) episodes of Burn Notice we snoozed for about 4 hours, having been up most of the night on the airplane(s), seeing as we left Vegas at 11:30 pm Pacific time.

Late Commenter League: Dying Of The Humidity Edition

I gave up and finally turned on the A/C a little while ago. I still can't really feel it, if that makes any sense...which it probably doesn't.

I kept telling The Kidz that it was too hot out to take a walk. Mr. Boing-Boing-Excitable Max insisted, so I took him. He lasted maybe 20 minutes before realizing, "Um, you know, I've got a heavy dense coat...whoops." Ember, OTOH, was smart enough to do one turn around the block before herding me back inside.

Now I'm hungry and I can't be bothered to go look in the fridge :p

I just got back from a day in Kamakura, you know, with the Great Buddha. I saw that, and a whole bunch of shrines (five big ones and a smattering of my usual side-of-the-road finds) on a rented bike, which I rode almost nonstop from 9:15am-5pm. Then I went and splashed around in the ocean and took pictures of the sky. Now my whole body hurts.

I went for a sad reason (the tenth anniversary of my dad's passing away), but I had a happy time anyway. I know that's what he would have wanted. My mom is going to her best friend's surprise birthday party.
