Which means that it is the time when we sit around and talk about “Who isn’t getting enough love?” Of course, that makes it sound like some sort of self-help group instead of the grueling battle to the death that is Idol. But that helps us lure in the unexpecting! ;)

Good morning GR!

Just popping in quickly with a brief explanation of my need to
bail out of the competition. I Really Really wanted to continue but my company from Texas arrived and family trumped the game!

My resident granddaughter is very self sufficient but her brother and his visiting cousin are wonderfully terrific, energetic and always hungry little boys. It was suggested, but I just could not shoo them into a backroom and close the door ( wink, wink, Gary) I had no recourse but to conserve my energy and maintain some sense of sanity thus not creating entries for now.

I am stealing moments here and there to read, and so far they are really enjoyable! (sorry not as faithful with comments this time as I'd like to be ) but I will be voting.
I would SO love to be in my token tribe!
WAH!( Idol Withdrawal is no fun.)

Anyway....I will try to keep tabs in the GR and I definitely plan to be back for Season 9!

Hello Greenies! :) We drove out to the Grand Canyon (south rim) yesterday. It was about a 5 hour drive, ugh! Internet was spotty, so I didn't get much reading done (plus we were listening to Ghost Story, one of the Harry Dresden novels, as we drove, and it's hard to listen to one story and read something else (at least for me).

But the Grand Canyon was beautiful! We brought Roman (our Roaming Gnome, see icon) with us, and took many photos. We even let a bunch of teens from Kansas take photos with him too. They loved posing with Roman, and were very careful not to drop him or anything. Roman is smallish - maybe 10" tall or thereabouts - and made of resin, so he's fairly lightweight and durable, thankfully!

Anyway, I'm going to do more reading now that I'm awake and have some spare time this morning. I'll get as much done as I can, I promise! :)

I'm still reading, but I'm surprised people have said m1ss1ngcupcake isn't getting more love. I haven't looked at the poll lately, but I would have thought people would have delighted in it by now. It's well-written, funny, and does make a salient point re the subject matter.

Your kind words are so appreciated. I knew I wanted to incorporate our own story into the other fairy tales, and to leave it semi-open to become a serial, and I'm glad that the end (or rather, intermediate!) product was a good read for you.

I thought fourzoas's entry about privilege and the disparity between how we live at home and how we act overseas was particularly well-written and very thoughtful. :)

I also liked michikatinski's very open and honest entry about things said and unsaid, and making the choice to say them; streetnights's historical fiction, which takes a look at a very human part of something that's normally fairly polarized (at least in my experience); and tatdatcm's introduction of the women who taught her to be who she is.

And I wanted to give the first poll a general shoutout -- they were particularly hard to decide on, and I had to raise the points cutoff on my spreadsheet for them. :)

Nobody's said yet how awesome bookishgeek was this week? She's doing okay in the polls, but her thing was just AWESOME (and so heartbreaking). I love dystopian fiction, and she did a great job creating a world I wanted to know more about.

Tales From Outcast Land, late commenter edition:

I am trying to make a go of a new epic Sims story, because I need meaning and writing and now I gotta replace Idol as a source of that.

I do have to say that one upside to this is that I get to set my own deadlines (which I do still try to make them reasonable so I finish stuff and get it out into the world) and so I get to write the way I naturally do.

Which is taking eight hours to perfect one paragraph if I want, and doing lots of research, and calling the spousal person over to feel his fingerpads or what his mouth feels like on the back of my hand or what his face looks like in light from the flashlight when all the lights are off, and spending lots of time looking through synonym lists and thinking about vowel sounds and sentence rhythm.

*gives her outrageous perfectionism a giant welcome home hug*

This is fun. I'd missed truly hardcore writing. :)

Also thanks for the recs! My moral sense of needing to read everything is no longer driving me as hard since I'm not actively participating, so now recs are useful! :)

This poll is going to be a challenge for me...I just got to log on for the first time all day because I've been up since 4 AM traveling. For a hoop thing. In North Carolina. It's aaaaaaaall weekend. I'ma try to read entries, I really am, we'll see how it goes!
