Green Room - Week 1 - Day 6

I was at Epcot yesterday, and in front of the Chinese area, there were a bunch of guys (and a couple girls) who I will stereotype and call "Jock-type". Which of course is horrible of me to place them in a category like that, as especially to assume that all people of a certain "look" are a certain way.

More to the point though, they were everything that people stereotype about that group. Which pretty much means their true grouping would be in the "asshole" category.

What were they doing to deserve this title? They were taking a picture in front of China - and using their fingers to pull the sides of their eyes. I'm not sure if that's a good enough description, but hopefully people know what I'm taking about.

I'd never actually seen that it person - at least not since elementary school - and I was in a really small town who had never actually seen a Chinese person. On the other hand, these "people" were in the middle of a place dedicated to diversity, in an specific area devoted to China, surrounded by Chinese cast members!

I wanted bad things to happen to them. It was pointed out to me though, that bad things *were* happening to them, every single day that I had to wake up and be that ignorant and unaware of who they are and how they are perceived.

I'd still like to order a drone attack.

True. They are without a doubt racists. But in trying to describe their appearance (which is, probably why they have survived this long and think they can "get away with it". I don't imagine they get called on a lot of things in life) that was my first impression of them.

I'm about to head to bed after watching the Eurovision final, and you know, I'm disappointed by the songs this year. Too much blandness. Where is the poppiness and silliness of Eurovision past? Thank goodness for Romania, is all I can say.

OH, so they like to buy into stereotypes, do they? I woulda pulled 'em aside and been all like "I'm not supposed to tell people this, but I used to work here, and, well...have you guys ever eaten at [start listing every restaurant in the China AND Japan areas of Epcot, because people like that prob'ly don't know the difference anyway, and it increases the odds you'll name a restaurant they've actually eaten at]?" Keep listing restaurants until they respond in the affirmative, then give them your best sympathetic look and continue, "OMG I'm so sorry. They don't tell this to the guests, but all the meat they serve is from stray cats and dogs they catch outside the park, and if they run out of strays, they just get kittens and puppies from the shelters. I quit because it freaked me out so bad!"

Deliver all of this with a completely straight face, watch them freak out and lose their lunch, walk away laughing your ass off.

I think I've read all the entries that are up so far - well, thegrimms is new since last night, and I have their entry open in a tab and will read it after posting this.

I've seen some pretty cool stuff so far. :) There are definite common themes emerging. And I'll admit - there are a few that are really well-written and imaginative and fun, but I'm not sure if I can vote for them because I can't tell which partner did which topic and/or how it relates to the topic.

And ugh - I feel this deep red Seth rage when I see people like that. And yeah, I haven't seen it since elementary school either. I don't know - maybe they're just still elementary school kids mentally and emotionally.

This has not been a good day thus far. Earlier sunrise wreaks havoc with me to begin with (and no, blackout anything doesn't work because the sunlight always finds its way into the slivers of space between material and window part), plus the usual strum und drang is affecting me in ways I don't appreciate.

I'd call for a do-over, but seeing that more than half the day has already gone bye-bye...

Can I add my own horror story to this?

Recently a girl on Facebook friended me and sent me a message asking if we could be friends, because she's friends with my bff, who told her to get in touch with me because she's going to be studying in Tokyo, where I live. That's cool. But what's the first thing you do when you friend someone on Facebook? stalk all of their photos, obvs. So I did, and there was this whole collection of her dressed up as a fake geisha in a "kimono" made of some sort of long rayon(?) skirt, one of those Chinese bathrobes with the embroidery on the back, and an "obi" made from what appears to be a patterned hand towel. She pulled her hair back into a messy bun and painted her face with face paint or theater make-up, I can't tell.

She's a Japanese studies major. She's going to be living here for a year. She should know better. I don't want to be friends if she's going to be one of those foreigners.

Glad you got to walk around Epcot though! Just three more months until I can do the same :) Speaking of, we will need to announce the LJI get together on August 18! I was thinking we could do it at the lounge at Animal Kingdom Lodge. I should be arriving in WDW earlier that day and the following day is my 35th birthday.
