Green Room - Week 0 - Day 2

I know that some people love intersections (working with someone else) and some hate them. But this isn’t a traditional intersection. It’s literally you writing something completely on your own. It just so happens that it is about someone else. (and given how many times your work is about “someone else”, it’s really not all that different) You don’t have to even contact the person, if you really don’t want to – just claim someone, who hasn’t already been claimed, and write something about them!

I know the bigger issue though isn’t about the specific topic. It’s about being an introvert, or just being uncomfortable in general meeting new people.

Believe me, I know the world of the introvert. In real life, I’m much more of one – and my girlfriend makes me look like an extrovert working on commission! In the last two years, I’ve been forced outside of my comfort zone as a result!

But I also know what social interaction can do for your writing. Not just in the realm of publishing, where it’s pretty much a necessity, but just in terms of getting and receiving the constructive criticism people need to get better. Heck, reaching out and working with someone is a built-in audience, and I don’t think there is anyone who would sign up for something like this and *not* want an audience! :D

The Green Room is a great way for you to get your metaphorical feet wet, by joining into conversations at your own pace. Most of the people don’t bite…. Um… OK… they do. Almost all of the people here bite. But many of them are on meds, so they are getting better!! Um… ok… a few of them remember to take those meds… ;)

It’s also a good excuse to grab someone you already know, and force them to sign up! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/648417.html Sign Ups are still open for the next few days, so I would go get them now! Blindside them when they aren’t paying attention, and when they wake up, they will be one of us!!

Concrit is the best thing that has ever happened to me, both here in Idol and in general on my writing journal (the one I'm commenting with in here). I am always open to concrit. If you want to friend me solely for the purpose of ripping my writing to shreds, I am okay with that.

I've been through it already and I won't lie -- it hurt like hell. But it's made me a better writer and I still have plenty of room for improvement. I wish I could be as good at giving crit as some of the people who have read my work, but I'm trying to get better at it.

Also, I both bite and am on meds.

Good morning, GR from a very sleepy me. *yawn*

The spousebeast has a meeting with his HR rep and the head of production at work this morning (he's not in trouble, but his supervisor is about to be, I think. She SCREAMED and cursed at him in front of customers...AND her supervisor. Her supervisor is the one who called the meeting), so he thrashed and mumbled in his sleep all...night...long.

And, being the type of guy he is, he's feeling guilty even though he's the one who has been getting verbally abused for months. Which ya kinda get used to in Foodserviceland, but she really crossed a line.

On the upside, all of that lack of sleep let me mentally draft my intro. I plan on writing it today, AFTER a nap.

Today is my 20th wedding anniversary to the wonderful man known as knightaudit. I am SO happy he has put up with me for all these years, because I don't know what I would do without him!

We're going out to dinner tonight for Italian food with some extended family. Otherwise, no big plans. I'm wondering if he will surprise me with flowers or something at work, but as yet there isn't any sign of such, and that's okay too.

My metaphorical "feet" aren't wet - the water is all the way up to my waist at this point, I've been frolicking in the Green Room for so long! It isn't easy being Green, most of us manage to pull it off. ♥

I posted this on my FB a little bit ago but I'm going to mention it here too. This morning my daughter's long term boyfriend Mike left for his deployment in Afghanistan. Lacy came home from college last night so she could ride with him and his parents to the airport. If you're on my FB there's a picture of the two of them that I took as they were leaving. He'll be stationed at Camp Leatherneck, I'm not sure where that's at yet.

He's a really wonderful young man and he and my daughter are very much in love with each other. Before he found out about the deployment there had been talks of them getting engaged and planning their wedding the year after she graduates from U of I but they've decided to wait until he returns...the reality and maturity of that decision by the two of them breaks my heart.

When he stopped by my house this morning he hugged me so tightly, he was trembling and trying very hard not to cry. My daugher was stone faced when she wasn't smiling at him trying to encourage him.

I have grown to love this boy like my own son over the last year and I'm scared to death for him and worried for my daughter and his parents. Any prayer or good thoughts or positive energy or what have you would be very appreciated. I find myself wanting to write about this and all the emotions that I'm feeling from everyone around me as well as my own.

Lacy and I are going to go out for dinner tonight and talk before she heads back to school to finish her finals. I'm so glad this is her last week, I don't want her to be up there alone right now.

:sigh: I hate war, I really do.

I have one of those days-of-the-week pillboxes that old people use for mine. At 36. I only take ONE medication daily, but I kept forgetting it and then not even remembering whether I'd taken it or not. Mike already had one for his meds (which I had mocked repeatedly up until this point) and convinced me to use one, too. :)
