I’m sure you wanted to hear something else, but screw that you bunch of whining hippies. Gather up your discussions of aversive racism and its effects on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds (and the second discussion about how sexist it is to assign the male gender to the inhabitants of the moon.. and just how geocentric it is that we discuss “the moon” as revolving around us, instead of naming it for its own inherent merits rather than just its relationship to us! Slow first?

I'm finally focusing on my books again, lol. I say finally even though it's only been a few days. :)

My son is playing me "music" on his keyboard and it amuses me. He's actually starting to make it sound musical in a way, which is really fricken cool if you ask me.

I'm finally finishing this chapter I've been working on allllll weeeeeeek. Yay?

My job requires me to do a weekend on-call rotation 3 times a year or so. This weekend is my first one. Apparently, a "good" on-call weekend means only having to work 20 hours. Eeeeeep. Hold me, I'm scared.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. Oh, except the hippies.

First coyote sighting of the season last night!

I had to do a double take because we were just far enough away that I had to squint. It must've gotten wind of my scent because it looked up, saw me, then ran the other way.

It must have shown up later because at one point all the dogs on the next street over were barking their heads off...

In other news: planning novels is hard. News at 11. Seriously, guys. I have about 1/2 of book 2 written and have caught up with my current outline. So now I have to piece together the parts I know happen and make them a coherent, wonderfully paced thing for the second half and I just.

To actually answer the question "What is it that makes a place “great”? What transforms words on a screen into real interaction and a group of people into a community? " (but not with the answer "Gary", since that's already been given), I'll say this: I think it's a lot of things, with a healthy heaping of luck and timing thrown in. A good mix of introverts and extraverts helps a lot - you get the super social people who are your social glue, and you get your quieter folks who speak when they feel they really have something to say, and that they'll be heard. Silly is good. The opportunity to be serious is also good. Man, I am just rambling here, because how can one really answer that question? I wish I knew the secret formula. Whatever it is though, you definitely have it here. <3

I will join you. I know how my next chapter starts, but it starts in an unusual way for me. So I am stuck even though I know how it starts and how I want the scene to open.

The good news is I have managed to outline the second half of this book. :D
