Green Room - Week 12 - Day 7

NOW is the winter of our discontent. Or maybe the Spring of our Idol deadline day. The actual day this time! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/643566.html I made sure that the days were wearing name tags, and confirmed that yes, this was the day that two people were going to be going home.

I haven’t seen Malcolm Freberg anywhere around, so things should go relatively smoothly.

Of course, there is still the entire day left to go, so quite a bit can happen between now and then! Make sure that your voice is being heard on who should be going on to the semi-finals of Idol’s very first mini-season!

Our thoughts and hearts would be going out to the people of West, TX if they weren’t already on loan to the people of Boston. Seriously, I’m going to have to start borrowing hearts just to send them out to folks in need. Perhaps from Idol contestants. We can start harvesting them!

We in central Texas appreciate any kind thoughts, prayers, whatever. I've lost at least eight brothers in arms to the explosion, with the body count of servants and civilians climbing. I'm a few hours south of the incident, and we already have personnel up there to help.

It's just surreal, watching it from afar. I can't imagine what it must be like to actually *be* there.

That sort of loss is just devastating. Stay strong and let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

It's just as surreal watching it here, to be honest. I'm wondering what - and where - the third thing will be....

We appreciate it. West's a small town, with some damn good kolaches and Czech food. It'll take some doing for them to bounce back, but we've got teams mobilized and ready to let the local guys (and gals) stand down and tend to their families. It just hurts - my brother is in Boston (he's safe), and now we've got honor guard duties for our own here at home. Hard week.

Massive damage in a major city, followed by a factory explosion in a smaller town and strange substances being found in envelopes addressed to political figures. I feel like I've seen this particular cycle before.

On top of all of the real life stuff that West has, on top of it they have the fact that the media all seem to want to call it "Waco"!

Hahaha. It was just too trippy - we're right around the anniversary of the David Karesh stuff, so there were several folks who were worried that it was some Branch Davidian nut.

When I heard last night that the first-responders were already on the scene when the explosion happened, my heart sank. Once an emergency worker, always an emergency worker.

My heart aches for you and and your immediate and extended emergency family. All emergency workers across the nation -- whatever the capacity, past and former -- are with you today.

The Texas thing is a little too close to home. I heard something was happening last night and I just looked it up to see what exactly had happened and where. But I can't click on any of those articles and read details. I'm less than an hour away from it. I stop in West all the time on my way to Austin to buy kolaches. Is it silly to feel more powerless in the face of all this violence and destruction becauses I'm way over on the other side if the ocean right now? Probably. I can do just as much (or little, as the case may be) to help here as I could when home in Wisconsin, but I still feel strange and disconnected. My heart aches for Boston and for West.
