I made a cameo at the Cards Against Humanity game last night, proving, once again, that nowhere is safe! I definitely had a good time, even if it went by more quickly than a Sherlock Holmes enema!

I couldn’t just sit around though, last night also featured some pretty tough eliminations: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/642146.html and the new topic: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/642519.html

Today features our soup special and a “Chef’s Selection” of catfish.

That enema wasn't quick. It took eighteen hours.

Oh, and this is probably the absolute best First! GR comment in GR history.

Also- yay, first!

Sherlock Hol....[livejournal.com profile] zephyrly, look what you started. JUST LOOK! No more "fan fiction Fridays" for you, young lady. NONE.

I no longer religiously follow Fan Fiction Fridays like I used to, but they're still hilarious. Anything by ComixNix is an instant classic (especially that one about Batman having sex with Inspector Gadget, and somehow the Transformers were involved), but there was one that was so bad that somebody made a video of that Nazi's face melting in Indiana Jones and the Price is Right Fail Horn.

And here's the story. It's about Pokemon! http://www.toplessrobot.com/2010/07/fan_fiction_friday_the_pokemon_crew_in_mays_proble.php#more

Having grown up where when someone says "fish" it's usually catfish, I tend to prefer others these days. Then again, occasionally I'll go back to my roots if the catfish is good.

Around here its usually ether catfish or blue gill - sometimes both.
Occasionally there might be something else in the mix.

That's funny, because I just placed my weekly order with Peapod, and one of the things I ordered was catfish. It will be hard to convince Luke that this doesn't mean "fish for the cat."

How you know you need more sleep:

You misinterpret a pregnancy test, panic (oh god oh god no fuck this I don't want to be pregnant again screw you body for making me momentarily insane), calm down, double check to make sure you're not misreading it (you are), and proceed to move on with your (still very early) morning.

And then your child who has trouble being understood when he speaks very clearly quotes one of the best things ever almost entirely intelligibly: I'm Moist. At my most badass I make people want to take a shower.

I couldn't be more proud rn, GR.

...yes I let my son watch Dr. Horrible. He loves the shit out of it. Who am I to tell him no?

I think [livejournal.com profile] porn_this_way mentioned something about "hiding the evidence", but I'd just come back to the game after fixing my tea, and my chat box went kerflooey, which was likely your fault, LOL.

It was an awesome game, and I hope we can gather together and play more often, even though I never could quite win, LOL.

Have any of you ever talked to a psychic?

A bunch of coworkers invited me to go with them last night to a girls night out and talked me into sitting with a lady who read my tarot cards and another lady who read my palm.

Tarot card lady was about 50/50. Some things she was dead on but other things were like huh?

Palm reading lady, dead on. In fact she made me cry with some of the things she said. Very sweet, very gentle and kind and empathetic. And I felt a kind of strange...I don't know how to describe it...almost a kind of relief.

The only weird thing with her were the compliments. As soon as I sat down she sat back in her chair and went "My GOD you are an AMAZING person!" and I was like "Wha?" And she took my hands and looked in my eyes and said "Do you know what you are?" And I'm like..."Ummm...I'm Penny? What do you mean?" And she started telling me about my life. Verbatim about the abuse and hardships, the relationship with my mother and everything I've overcome and then she told me that I was unique because I loved people even when people didn't love me. She said...if you can dig it...that I'm a world protector which is very rare (per her) and special and that my husband is my protector. She knew about the teen mops group and told me it was going to grow and grow and grow. She told me I was going to do amazing things and be remembered well and for a long time.

She talked about my son and told me that around 17 or 18 he would change his life and be a great man.

She knew about my nightmares and my self doubt...which you know, she probably picked up by looking at me really. But still...

It was interesting and assuring. Of course anyone would feel good being called a world protector. But she made me sound like some sort of angel on Earth. And anyone who knows me knows better than that. :)

Have you guys ever experienced anything like that with a psychic?

Date: 2013-04-12 04:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] alycewilson.livejournal.com
I never paid for a psychic, but I went with a friend at Ocean City, Maryland, back in high school and sat on the sidelines, smirking. Everything she said seemed to be either basic platitudes, things you could pick up from observing someone, or things that anyone would want to hear.

But I actually do believe in clairvoyance and have heard many family stories regarding that sort of phenomenon.

Usually, you hear of things like Cards FOR Humanity. The twist intrigues me.

Still not dead, except in the Idol sense.

Catfish! I never had that until I lived in Peoria for 3 years. It was pretty good. With tartar sauce, though-- fish in soup is a frightening thought, unless the 'fish' are shrimp.

I pretty much fear all regular fish except salmon and trout. Maybe it's just the sea fish? The chances of tuna/bass/etc. tasting like snakes smell is about 70%. Yick.

I'm so not a fish person. Shrimp and scallops and fried-clams-without-bellies, fine. Anything that swims? Not so much.

I did have catfish once, though. It honestly didn't make any type of impression on me. Ditto swordfish, which had been marinated and grilled. Everyone else was moaning in ecstasy over it, and I was like, "Eh, give me a steak!"

I attribute all this to 1) being a longtime ocean critter lover/former aquarium owner/former aquarium volunteer, and 2) my mother shopping at a particular store when I was little where the fish department stunk to high heaven :o

Seems like we can just about set our watches by when this conversation pops up every (mini) season.

Surviving Idol (see what I did right there? - That was for Gary.) Is partly about good writing, partly about appealing to voters, and partly about bringing your supporters to the table.

Good or bad, it's what it is.

If you do one of them, you can hang in for a while. If you bring two, you'll make it farther, and if you want to win, you need all three.

Every week. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Having a bad week on any of those will do you in after a point in the contest. We're past that point.

"Good writing" is in the eye of the beholder. Appealing to voters is about knowing who is beholding. Bringing the vote is self explanatory.

The "best singer" doesn't always win our inferior television cousin. And opinions on who the "best singer" is will vary from person to person.

Ditto writers.
