So we don’t bury the lead – the *most* important news of this, or any, week is that there is a poll going on: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/638700.html and it is *tight*. So get out there and read, comment, vote – and point some friends in this direction to do the same. (especially the reading part, your friends need to read some cool stuff! They obviously have lousy taste! ;D)

But somewhere behind that in terms of importance was an announcement that came out yesterday that made me smile.

Our friends at Fey Publishing are continuing to literally be our friends at Fey Publishing!

For those who don’t know the history, several years back theafaye approached me with an idea for an Idol book. It wasn’t the first time that the idea came up, but from everything she was saying I got the impression that she was someone who would actually carry it out, and make it something good.

Apparently, one of her dreams was to start her own publishing company, and this Idol book was going to be part of kick-starting that effort.

Of course that book became Idol Musings, and I was right, it turned out great.

I won’t say that Fey went on to “bigger and better” things, because what’s “better” than Idol? They say when you go out to follow your dreams, you should “never forget your roots”, and Fey Publishing didn’t. Many of the books they published were from people in the Idol family! Which is awesome.

Yesterday, it was announced that the company had been sold.

I knew that there was either going to be a sale, or closing the company, on the horizon, and had been more than a little nervous about the prospect. When the new buyer was revealed though, I knew that everything was going to be OK.

As of May 1st, our own pixiebelle, who came up from the Idol ranks as well, will be in charge!

I couldn’t be happier, or more proud of her for what a know is going to be an exciting time for the company!

Our friend theafaye has done great things with the company over the years, and I’m sure is going to be up to some pretty cool things in her newly retired from the publishing game life as well! I look forward to seeing more writing out of her!!

If the rumor-mills are what they used to be, some of you may have heard that I have an announcement of my own coming soon – I’m not ready to make it yet. But it’s definitely getting closer. I’ll just say watch for what will be falling from the skies! It's going to be pretty darn cool.

Congrats to pixiebelle! I read her announcement last night and wanted to congratulate her there, but got distracted. Owning a publishing company (no matter how small) must be so cool! :D

Peter was finally able to touch the thumb to the pinky on his right hand. This is something he hasn't been able to do since the stroke.

I finished the robotic blanket of doom last night! Yeesh, it's taken a while! It's in the dryer now, and when it comes out I'll check again for stray threads and stuff I need to fix, and hopefully manage to deliver it tonight. I need to keep in mind for the future that while I do technically do stuff like quilt and sew, and I enjoy them, I don't do them well or quickly. And promising stuff to people and then not delivering for ages stresses me out.

Also, we are all packed and ready to go to England. I think. Probably. Maybe. We'll see. Being anxious about it has now transitioned fully to being excited about it. I kind of envy folks who travel well and often (I suspect one is related to the other).

I worked really hard on my novel yesterday - edited 36 pages, changing them from 3rd to 1st person.

More awkward than writing a sex scene in 3rd person? Writing it in first. Now I know. :)

Good news: I brought in Panera bagels to work yesterday, but had to leave to meet hubby in the ER before I had a chance to have a bagel. Fortunately, there were some leftovers so I got to have one this morning. W00t!

Well...I'd say it's tight save for one stand out. ;) I had a feeling writing about Bronies would be a risk, but it was what was in my heart this week. Being around them for three solid days will do that to you.

Thanks everyone! I've actually be researching how to start up my own publishing company for awhile. I made a comment in a GR awhile back and Thea saw it and we started talking. Her handing it off couldn't have come at a better time for me. After losing my job in October, I've been doing a lot of soul searching to figure out how I can improve myself and find happiness... And owning this business very well could lead to that for me. I may finally get out of the field I hate so much. This and the opportunity to be a staff reader at an anthology are helping me head in the direction I want with my life.

And the fact that it's Fey Publishing and my nickname is Pixie (and I adore fairies) couldn't be more fitting :)

Thanks Gary. With all the writing assignments I've picked up recently, things have been pretty hectic and I have another book due out later this year, so Pixie came along at just the right time for me. It's lovely when the right person comes along when you need them.

Cuddly blanket of robotic dooooom

Here it is, all spread out across the bed.

And folded up ready to be delivered.


The fabric is this super soft, super lightweight cuddly fleece. It's kind of the best thing ever. The top and the bottom of the blanket are basically the same pattern of alternating rectangles and squares, and I quilted them together with variegated blue thread. There's no batting or anything in the middle, so it's warm but not heavy. The really long rectangles are 88 inches wide. It's a realllly big blanket for a queen sized bed. I think I managed to get all the pins out before I delivered it. Heh.

That is amazing. However, the snuggle factor appears to greatly outweigh the doom factor, as those little bots are entirely too adorable to be proper harbingers of doom.

Just wanted to pop in and say how sorry I am that I wasn't able to read anything this week; work is kicking my ass, but I'm hopeful that things will slow down enough after tomorrow to give me more time to engage--I miss my Idol reading time!
