I put together an Amazon Store for LJ IDOL:

http://astore.amazon.com/li0cd-20

Some of your favorite Idolers have books available there, as well as other stuff by "friends of Idol" and just some cool kinda-sorta related things!

If there is anything we are missing, let me know and I'll add it!

That goes triple for the "Other Books" subcategory. I just threw in things off the top of my head that I've enjoyed. So, feel free to share your own recommendations on books that should be there as well!

(and any books by Idolers that I may have forgotten! I know there are quite a few that slipped by)

You are probably going to go to Amazon to order books, and other assorted items anyway. So, if you are going to do that - why not click through our link to get there? You get what you wanted, and Idol gets a little cash in the process! (emphasis on little, but hey, it's something! :D)

***

If you'd rather give directly - there is a Pay Pal (and an Amazon, for those who would rather use that site) donation link on the user page and now on the sidebar of the Idol page. (the same place you can find the Store, for future reference!)

***

If you don't. Absolutely no worries. But people have asked for a chance to "give back", and now here are several ways to do it!

So spread the word! And thank you to everyone who has already done so, or is planning on doing it sometime in the future!

Thanks for reminding me of some of the others I already knew about, as well as some I didn't. I have Amy's book but have been meaning to get Allison's for quite a while now.

That's nice to hear. I haven't been promoting them as much as I could, but when I've read from them at various events, I've always gotten a great response. Also, a high-school classmate contacted me recently to say that he bought the Kindle version of "The Art of Life" and liked it so much he was recommending it to friends.

I actually am sitting on two completed poetry manuscripts of more recent works that I really ought to be sending out!

O hay question. Or jerry rig. Or possibly both.

Let's say I wanted to order some random shit from amazon that's not on the Idol list there, but I wanted Idol to get the kickback for it. If I click into the Idol store, then click the main Amazon link, the Idol store headers and color scheme disappears. Idol's store ID does still appear in the URL (li0cd-20), but the moment I click onto a specific item or conduct a search, the store ID isn't in the URL anymore, and there's nothing to indicate that I came onto amazon through Idol. I am guessing that this means that Idol won't get kickbacks for any random shit I buy from the main part of the site.

HOWEVER, if I want to be a jerry riggin' jive turkey, I can add a bunch of shit to my shopping cart and\or wish list from regular amazon, then go back to the Idol store, click the link for my cart or my wish list through the Idol store, and boom, there's my shit, but with the Idol store background and with the Idol store ID in the URL. If I only wanted to buy one thing, I could also conduct a similar jerry rig if I just click on any old random item in the Idol store (say, for example, Idol Musings, whose URL is http://astore.amazon.com/li0cd-20/detail/0473151006 ) - then opened a page for the non-Idol item I wanted in a separate browser tab (say, Twilight, because I've got a sick sense of humor - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0316038377 ) and then replace the product number at the end of the Idol Musing URL with the product number for Twilight. I would therefore get this: http://astore.amazon.com/li0cd-20/detail/0316038377 - Twilight in the Idol store.

Are these methods effective? Are they redundant\unnecessary, on the grounds that anything bought on Amazon if someone clicks in through Idol will end up giving kickbacks to Idol anyway, even despite the store ID not being in the URL anymore? If yes effective, and no not redundant\unnecessary, then O HAY U GUYZ, LOOKIT, JERRY RIGGING MAGIC!!1!11 If something else...O HAY U GUYZ, IGNORE ME, I just like doing voodoo with URLs.

Not necessarily buy extra stuff, but if we're farting around on there anyway, might as well be an opportunistic ass and rig the URL for the greater good, ya know? I was just curious if the rigging was necessary! I admittedly know a grand total of jack and shit about how Amazon stores work, so wasn't sure if the lack of Idol store header\border and store ID in the URL was relevant or not. *pokes Amazon with a stick*

That's the Voodoo you do so well!

I like "backdooring" stuff like that - very cool!

Hey, figured it was worth a shot! It may not be *effective* voodoo, but it's at least a valiant attempt and might do something cool.

I'm not necessarily saying this should be included in the Idol Store, but one book I can recommend for those who like LJI stories and essays is "I Thought My Father Was God," edited by novelist Paul Auster, collected from NPR's National Story Project. It's available in print and audio, and listening to the audiobook it struck me how familiar the short true stories were to a lot of the stuff I'd read in Idol.

Love it! And I look forward to seeing all the other books by Idolers I know are in production there soon too. ;)

We order off of Amazon all the time, so I'll give it a shot- just hoping that they will still give you the credit even if i use Amazon reward points to pay for things. Most of my orders don't cost me extra cash because I use the rewards.

Yes they are.
I am currently working on stories from my zombie verse for an anthology I'm going to call something zombie this way comes. Yes the title is in honor of a certain Ray Bradbury book that Disney turned into a movie.
