I’m really getting a kick out of our Top 4. Their voices are clear and their intent is pure - to put something out there that is going make you take a step back and go “Wow”.

I read through the entries, trying to think, “If this was the long awaited “Gary-only” voting, which ones would I pick to go forward, and who would be eliminated?”. Notice I said “try”, because whenever I thought that I had made a decision about it, one of the others would pop up in my head saying “Don’t forget how I made you feel”. Which would be followed by a change of heart, which, in turn would be followed by one of the other entries speaking up and throwing it all into confusion again.

By this point, I’m sure people have their favorites. But that’s what is so great about a week with only four entries. It takes out the “I didn’t have time to read all of them excuse”. If you don’t have time to actually sit down and read four entries... well, I feel sorry for whatever medical emergency or family trauma you are going through.

Because you have until Tuesday, August 21st at 9pm EDT to read them and make a decision.

That’s less than an entry a day. I’m pretty sure everyone can read all four of them in that amount of time.

I’m strongly encouraging that people implore anyone within the sound of their voice to take the time, read the entries, comment to them if they feel so moved, and actually take a role in their decision-making process. It may just be a click of the mouse, but it matters a great deal to the people who have made it to this spot in the competition.

Especially since the person with the entry that receives the lowest amount of votes will be eliminated.

The Jury has been disbanded. There are no special votes. It’s just a straight forward, open to everyone poll, that will determine our Top 3.

Holy cow you guys...

That was close for me. I almost pulled the stupidest move in Idol history.... I forgot that there's a three hour time difference between time zones. For some reason, I thought it was two and figured I had time after work.

I'm so glad I decided to double check or I'd have byed out with a fully written entry ready to post. I'd never made that mistake throughout all these months. And now?!?

But I'm in and I can take a deep breathe. Well until I start looking at the poll that is...

Great job to everyone. The other three ladies truly kick butt and I'm honored to be here alongside them. Whatever happens, this rocks. I'm happy to be here.

The thing I'm most struck by, reading these four, is how much LJ Idol has changed over the years.

Same excellent writing, certainly, but 3 of four finalists are fiction pieces?! To think that fiction used to be considered a desperately risky gamble!

There is a little piece of me that mourns those days. But I will not reopen the fiction/non-fiction debate right now, especially since it's obvious that fiction's now the mainstay of Idol.

These were all really really good entries. It is so hard for me to read everything in the beginning of the season -- and I don't like to vote if I don't read a considerable percentage of the entries overall -- so I'm always happy when it gets down to 20 or so, giving me a chance to read most if not all!
