Green Room - Week 36 - Day 16
Aug. 11th, 2012 03:01 pmI had to turn down Romney's offer this morning. I know that it was disappointing for him. But I'm sure the lesser of evils will have to do. Granted, I've never gone after Medicaid or Social Security. Just what little is left of your sanity! So, maybe it's just a different variation.
I know he was thinking that I could add a lot to the ticket. I agree, I could have.
I just wasn't willing to accept anything less than "God-Emperor" as a title. Maybe just "Ra" to make it sound foreign, but people would know what we meant by it!
Other than playing stump speech bingo - what are you folks up to this weekend?
I imagine that it involves, http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/595911.html, the place to be! So make sure to get out there - read, comment and vote!!

Date: 2012-08-11 08:55 pm (UTC)Don't try to be King, neither. Your relatives will be looking to kill you to replace you. You don't need that kind of stress.
No, the job you want is being King of the Popes. All the authority, none of the hassles.

And then going to the OC Fair tomorrow with

Date: 2012-08-11 07:21 pm (UTC)So this is a backhanded compliment:
What's cool about the serials is reading two or three pieces where I think, oh, shit, I can't remember who that is, and what the hell happened that got us here, and wait, whose side are we on? But then suddenly the author hits a place where something AMAZING happens, or a relationship deepens, or there's a piece of backstory that comes out, or a huge emotional catalyst, and I go, WOW, when this is in the full novel, this is going to be HUGE, and I can tell the author needed to write around it and past it and near it to get to that BAM there is IS place. And it makes me so excited to see them writing work that is good and solid but needs context, and then out of that dedicated writing comes a jewel of a chapter or a scene that is what all that writing was in service of.
So yeah, backhanded :) But it's such a testament to the process of writing and the power of Idol that we are an environment where we can put out work that is solid and respectable and slowly advances the plot, that we are slogging along like little miners who can only see what our headlamps illuminate, and our work habits are keeping us going because we hope hope hope that if we keep going we're going to find something, and the support of our friends and beta readers and fellow contestants is sharpening our picks and sniffing out gas pockets ahead and letting us know that this is a safe space to develop our work and KEEP WRITING until we get to the beautiful jewels.
Yay sparklies!

Date: 2012-08-11 07:52 pm (UTC)But there's that downside -- the fact that most of my pieces are, sadly, going to be out of context, and without that context some of the umph is lost. It's hard, but when I get to a point where I can really start piecing my novels together, this may end up being a huge problem -- because I'll have to rewrite pieces here and there to reflect changes the characters made for later on in the story. Or I'll have to rewrite later pieces to reflect something that happened earlier on that I didn't know about (::coughJazzandRavicough::).
Oh well, that's what editing is for, after all.

Date: 2012-08-11 08:05 pm (UTC)The thing I did like about doing the serials this week was what you said. Holy crap, I found out so much about where things are going to go with the characters and stories as a whole. So that was kind of awesome.
