I’m looking forward to reading an article like this http://news.yahoo.com/miss-church-apologizes-barring-black-couples-wedding-unbeknownst-233716061.html , 40 years from now, about a church that bars a same sex couple! Because that will mean that the brand of small mindedness has become newsworthy and unusual.

It used to be that people lined up to *stop* other people from going somewhere to eat. Now that trend has reversed to standing in line to eat to stop people from doing other things! :D

***

I’m *still* seeing more about the Colorado shooting than the one in Wisconsin. Apparently, the Sikh temple should have been showing a blockbuster movie. Then they could have had a tie-in for the story other than “racist psychopathic terrorist guns down innocent victims”.

Which, apparently you need to get the coverage… that, and it can’t happen on the weekend. Murderous rampages on the weekend don’t carry the same internet outrage.

Speaking of “internet outrage” – two of the seven Idol contestants are across the finish line, cementing their place in Idol History!!
The rest of them are coming along quite nicely (I suspect the last two just haven’t linked yet): http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/594381.html

So make sure you congratulate them, and cheer on the rest as the deadline approaches!

Ugh, I heard about the shooting at the temple. Such a shame that it's gotten next to no coverage. =/ Because both shootings are tragedies and deserve to be treated as such.

I'm working on my final home game entry and I'm feeling the emotional drain from writing it. Which means I'm doing a good job, I think. Even if I don't want to look at it again once it's finished. lol

I'm cheering on the final seven, as well. Some good stuff out there, everyone should read while they've got the time. :D

Well, hot damn, FRIST.

You're FRIST!!!!!!!!

One of our local TV stations had a segment on one of their "magazine" shows about the temple shooting, when then led into an introduction about Sikhism. One of our talk radio stations had a similar story which I caught on the way home from work yesterday.

Ugh, I know. That implication makes me batty, even if they don't mean it to be taken that way. And you know there are people out there who would feel that it would have been okay, had they been Muslim. Grrr.

The human race annoys me, sometimes.

Date: 2012-08-07 01:44 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] pixiebelle.livejournal.com
Sadly, portions of our population would likely consider it more justifiable if they were Muslim and many probably still think they were, which is why they have to say that.

Ignorance. Just plain ignorance.

That's like underhandedly saying that if they were Muslim, then...what's the point you're trying not make, hmmm? Watch them try to worm their way out of that!

I love learning about new cultures, religions, you name it. It still astounds me how many people couldn't care less.

No, it would not have been "OK" if the victims had been Muslim… but that's just my opinion. There is still enormous anger and hatred being directed toward Islam here in the US, as much as people try to deny it. Do you remember the fuss over "The New Ground Zero Mosque" a couple of years ago? Most news agencies deliberately ignored three vital facts:

(1) IT WASN'T A MOSQUE - it was a center for Islamic studies.

(2) IT WASN'T AT GROUND ZERO - It was located five blocks away from the WTC site.

(3) IT WASN'T NEW - The organization was expanding the school they already had at the location in question… and they had been there for decades.

Due to bad news coverage and American knee-jerk emotional reactions, the folks trying to expand their school are now in the process of moving it elsewhere…

I read everything that was posted on C as of yesterday and left a few comments. Started on B and need to finish C.... Why did I choose to go backward? No idea....

I try to read as things get posted, nowadays. I no longer worry about inadvertently stealing others' ideas, lol. I've enjoyed a lot of it.

Me = on vacation next week, and therefore is slaving away this week as she did the week before that and the week before that.

Me = in absolute utter awe at what the Final 7 is turning in for the third round. Has only read a few entries and her mouth is now probably in permanent open-mouth-in-amazement :o

Me = hopes the concrete mixer next door isn't going to continue making concrete all day because she already has a headache from the noise :p

I would have had all my pieces in last night had yesterday not been the day from hell...

I'm super stressed about confronting my boss today over stuff I feel deceived about. He's an absolute jerk, and it's something I need to calmly stand up for myself about but it's me.... So I'm sick to my stomach from stress. Absolutely sick to my stomach about it and I just woke up 5 minutes ago.

That and Annabelle was just a terror last night, so I couldn't write for two minutes at a time without breaking up the turf wars in my living room. I finished the entry, but editing and fixing it was impossible in that environment so I'll post it after work today at the very last minute or at lunch if I'm lucky.

I won't miss the deadline, don't you worry.

Is she pulling off her bandages again? Annabelle, don't you know that your mama needs her rest?!?!?

Date: 2012-08-07 02:08 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] pixiebelle.livejournal.com
Oh not so much. She only wears a dock at night and while I'm at work to stop her from licking. When I'm around, no bandage :)

It's the turf wars between her, my cat and my roommate's mean cat. And her eating my roommate's cat food. And bothering the roommate. And running laps of 90 mph around the living room (that I let her do since it was the least destructive and I know she's full of energy).

Coverage of the Sikh temple shooting has been quite thorough on our local news, but Chicago is pretty darn close to Milwaukee, so it's very much a local issue for us. I just can't even wrap my head around it.

I have come across a couple of places raising funds for the shooting victims; I'll post the links if anyone is interested.

In other news, I might actually have a Home Game entry this week, if my brain starts working again and I finish the thing I've been working on. (A whole one HG entry out of I've-cost-count possible topics. Ah, well, better than I've managed so far.)

Wooo, go Idol finalists! That's such a gruelling and impressive number of entries to finish! I feel like the people waiting at the finish line in the Amazing Race, peering to see who is going to come around the corner first (or frist, as the case may be!) It could be anyone! They're all so quality!

Hello GR! Actually, this morning on the radio was the first I'd heard of the shootings. Granted, I don't watch the news like, ever, but I do listen to a news station in the car every day when I'm on my way to work. I was very surprised to hear that it happened last weekend and not this because it was the first I was hearing of it.

For you top 7, I commend you all for slogging your way through all those entries in such a small amount of time, and the same goes for you folks who have been home gaming. I've been reading all the entries as they've been going up, just so that I will be able to read them all, but I think I've barely commented. So I'll just throw it out there - you are all amazing. There's just a lot going on in my life right now, and I rarely have the word power to say anything intelligent about the entries. Just telling you "Well done" or something equivalent just doesn't seem to be worth the effort it costs me to type it out. I really need to be blown away to make an actual comment, and even then they are kind of useless ones, lol... so to all of you, I say this - every single one of you is doing a fantastic job, and I'm proud of each and every one of you. I can't wait to see who wins!

I've had an UGH morning. Started out with a dentist appointment at 8am to get a crown done. While he's doing whatever, my blood sugar bottoms out enough that I become unresponsive, when I come to a few minutes later, my blood sugar is so off that my monitor only gives a LO reading, and the doc is offering me a Dixie cup with some frosting in it, lol. I've broken out into a cold sweat, and my next reading was only 25. He sent one of his assistants out to the convenience store to get me a bottle of OJ. It took about 30-40 minutes before my readings were up enough that he felt ok to continue. So whereas initially I thought I'd get to work by 9:30, I didn't leave his office until 10:40 and had to stop home first to change out of my stinky clothes. Ugh.

So yeah... It's been a morning!
