There have been rumors all season long that it was coming, and now it’s here. But then again, we’re dealing with the TOP 8 of Season 8! (twice the number of contestants, and seasons as Season 4!) so, is it really all that surprising that this is where it was going to hit?

When confronted with a massive task, what is your usual strategy for tackling it? Do you go at it straight ahead, do you find a foothold and expand out from there?

My first Hell week! Woo!

I'm not sure how I'll do this. I'll stare at the topics for a bit and try to generate ideas... But this isn't going to be easy. Then I start writing...

I like to have ideas for all before I start, but that's not always possible.

This is gonna be a busy weekend...

You know how the people who are on the Jury in "Survivor" get to chill for the rest of the game in the Ponderosa with showers and square meals and relaxation? I'm kinda feelin' that now. =D

In all seriousness, tho...

When confronted with multiple topics, I don't consider them all at once. I look at each individually, see if I free-associate some idea that fits the topic, and just dive into that. Then look over the list and pick another that sparks something.

The biggest problem here, of course, is the time factor; no putting anything off. Considering that, if you have an idea that seems to sing at all, start writing it, not only is there no time for second-guessing but I've found the first thing that comes to mind was what would have worked best anyway (caveat: I did get voted off, so they didn't all work perfectly). On one I did, I started writing and kinda hit a wall after a few paragraphs. Hours later I looked at it again, kept the concept but changed the point of view a bit, and wrote it fresh, with the whole story flowing out easier than I'd expected.
Bottom line, I didn't let the time-factor panic me, made extra time I wasn't usually online, and it worked out.

Your advice about when you hit a wall? Exactly what I do. I'll step away, come back and if it's still not working, I'll figure out why and maybe change the POV. The entry most people listed as their favorite by me (Narcissim) was originally going to be from the clones POV, but struggling to not make it cliche I asked questions about how I could show things differently.

And it worked out well. It's one of my favorite ideas this season.

I've done this with tons of pieces. Great advice. Now if only my ADD brain didn't try to think of all the topics at once.... It gets garbled in the old brain... But I'll straighten it out.

based on my current non writing goings on, when confronted with a giant task I don't do anything. But! just starting is a good spot for me, and getting a little done everyday. Even if I just work on it for half an hour.

I'm still following this although not commenting, but I can't believe how intense it's getting! I thought it'd stay at one topic a week until the end.

Out of interest, do you have to write 6 seperate entries or can you combine a couple of topics into one entry?

One thing that seems to happen at this stage of the game is that people most often (not always, not all, but frequently) seem to write longer and longer entries, quite often of the fictional variety.

My suggestion with multiple topics is to get to the heart of the matter - you don't need to write 1500+ words on each topic. When there are six (or potentially more) topics, write well but watch your length. Don't go overboard with minutiae. Just my .02 cents.
