therealljidolIn true Season 8 style, the decision on who would receive The Spirit of LJ Idol award for this season was a close one that ended up being decided in the last few hours.
Which is fitting, given that this is something given by your peers, that voting ended up being all over the place for most of the duration. The peers in question are, after all, a pretty darn eclectic group of people!
At one point, it was looking like a 10 way tie! As time went on, that lowered to six... which lowered to three... which went back up to an almost completely differently six!
Up until an hour or so ago, it was a close race between three - and then one of them shot out a little bit ahead, and stayed there.
It was pretty thrilling. Which again, is appropriate for this season. So I guess you knew what you were doing! ;)

It's been such a wonderful and surprising experience, and I'll tell you that I have learned much about its best qualities both from those who have been around for prior seasons and from several very sweet people who have joined as n00bs this season just like me.
Thank you everyone! Gary has emailed me the icon, but I thought I'd better use the default instead of excess flauting and whatnot.

Date: 2012-07-19 03:05 pm (UTC)She gives every writer comprehensive, contemplative insight into her reactions to their literary works, even citing excerpts from the piece itself. She is never overly critical, but can be constructively so at times, and she demonstrates style and grace in her every word. She also makes a point to read every entry every week, which I believe is generally an endeavor that is undertaken by very few. She manages to be amiable without gushing, analytical without nitpicking, and thorough without overkill. I don't know if she represents everything Idol always has been, but, to me, she represents everything I WISH it always would be... a community of amicable supportive writers for writers. I am thrilled that this season’s contestants recognized in her the type of encouragement we should all aspire to share with our fellows.
It's very obvious, to me, too, that her motivation has never been solely to put herself out there, or to emotionally manipulate the polls... I think she just feels it's her responsibility as a writer and a reader, and I think she's done a damn fine job with that, and I respect her a great deal for it. I believe she came here to learn and to grow, and I believe she has. I'm very glad to have become connected to her here, and I thank Idol for making that possible.
