This is actually the first time in, well, I believe EVER that I ended up assembling my own actual list of where people would fall under “Gary Only Voting”, as opposed to just having it in my head.

While I was definitely pleased by the number of “yes” votes I had, there was quite a few signs of burn-out that I saw in even the strongest pieces, and some people that I think missed the mark. (Although it’s “missed the mark” compared to what I know they can do/when put side by side. They are still good pieces, amazingly enough) Some of those are still doing well in the voting (it’s not over yet), to which I have to say that my tastes have never entirely matched those of the voting public, regardless of who that public is…. I think it’s time for Gary Only Voting to become a “thing”! :P

(OK, probably not. But that doesn’t mean that I can’t continue to scare you with it!)

In a case of real life and Idol schedule matching up well, I have made a bit of adjustment to said schedule – to include something that’s never happened before. Some will like it – others will be really annoyed. Which means it’s just like every other thing that’s ever happened in Idol! ;)

All I can say now is that it’s coming in a couple of weeks. So those of you left standing at the end of this round, well… you might want to hold onto the handrail.

Summer schedule starts today. I'll be working two days a week for the next few months. This is that point I've been working toward for many reasons, including the fact that I now know I won't have to drop out of Idol. At least, I won't have to drop out for work reasons. Last couple of weeks were reallllly close.

I'm really looking forward to the upcoming 3-day weekend. Even though I just got back from vacation 10 days ago, I could really use the time off!

Tonight I'm going over to a friend's house to work on creating a screen design so we can screenprint t-shirts at her weekend-long Memorial Day potluck party. She's expecting about 40 people to attend, off and on, and we get to make t-shirts for most of 'em! The theme of this year's party is the Mayan "End of the World" theme. Should be fun!

You know when you talk like this, it makes me wonder if i missed the mark. With no poll to look at... I was overall happy with my entry this week, I had fun writing it and I accomplished with what I set out to do which was to write a light, funny family piece to make up for all the gore I've been writing lately. I was dealing with Annabelle's emergency on deadline day, so my editing time was cut short.... But I was still pleased with my overall idea and entry. So hopefully I'll stay put another week!

I've read the entries and voted. I couldn't comment this week because of everything going on (read my public entry). I'm absolutely exhausted more than I've ever been in my life. I'm thankful for waking up and seeing how awesome my friends (and complete strangers) are and I'm hopeful that Annabelle will recover. It's going to be a long, expensive journey though. But if I stick around this week, I do promise to continue to give Idol my attention. Annabelle will start healing soon. I won't be able to take her to the dog park for weeks so my evenings suddenly got freed up too so if I get through this round, bring on the mayhem! Though it does sound like lots of mass eliminations are in store, so regardless of how this vote turns out, I'll be sure to watch Idol closely.

Right now though, I just really need to skip work and sleep the day away. I can't do that so off to work I go. I don't see it being a very productive day... Glad I'm already qutting so they can't fire me!

Oh and the range of people stepping up to help Annabelle (either through asking for help from others, giving me resources or donating) is blowing my mind. Everyone from complete strangers to my high school English teacher to my 4th grade teacher's son to Java's ex-girlfriend (who's really going out of her way to get me resources since she's a dog rescuer herself). There are good people in this world. I'm shown this time and time again. The world is full of goodness, sometimes it just takes something bad to happen to see it... But it's always there.

Hey, Gary, what signs and symptoms help you detect burnout? That's a very oft-discussed topic in the mental health field. What do you look for in someone's writing, other than maybe decreased length, to clue you in?

Obviously, I’m not a professional (in anything, other than hippie kicking, and then it’s more of a passion. :D)

But when you read people’s work every week for (in cases) years you get a sense of their cadence and style. There’s a certain strain to the work, not sure if that makes any sense, or if I could even point to “and THAT sentence”, but overall, you just get the feeling of something being banged out rather than crafted… I’d say it’s completely in my head, except that a couple people actual cop to it in their own pieces or here in the Green Room!)

I think there was a bit of pressure from “Bring Your A-Game” that put people into a position where they did the opposite, they went for the “it has to be overly emotional”. I think some pulled it off whereas others seemed (to me) like “I’ve got to write something that will tug you emotionally”.

Overall, I’m one vote – and I vote for everyone. This round, I’m not even that!

Oooooo, I would love to see the Super Sekrit List of Gary Only Votes! I think it would be neat to see directly what you enjoy and are interested in reading. Also, I'm looking forward to twists and turns, even if I'm not around to be writing for them. :)

Today is going to be pretty busy - one of my best friends in town is having a birthday party, and I seem to be the, uh, party organizer. I don't know how this happens. I swear, by natural inclination I'm a hermit! So, I need to wrap presents and figure out what games to bring over and and figure out what we're going to eat tonight and then go to the grocery store and get great gobs of food for the cook-out. It's not a bad way to spend the day. :)

Thanks for the warning. Although I'm not sure how much further I'll be making it I'd like to think positive.

Also, I'm not a slacker. I read entries off and on all day yesterday until I got burnt out, and I'm still not done. Luckily I have today off work so I can finish. It is going to be a day on the computer as I am also doing some softwear testing for IBM on their SPSS product so I need to work on that.

I almost wish he had found something wrong, because I tend to worry about problems with unknown causes.

I understand your frustration. I was once in an Emergency room with doctors looking over me saying "we've never seen THAT before" -- REALLY?! All those years of medical school, residency, etc., and this is new?!

Schedule change? It could get worse? I think I actually have more time in the winter, because in summer the garden (weeds) explode and that takes up a lot of weekend time. Plus, vacations and such.

Looks like my husband is finally scheduled for hip-replacement surgery on August 11th! He'd hoped more for June, so there's going to be some logistical juggling when school starts. :0

Wow- so the season that wouldn't end.. still won't end.

I just went to check to see there we're at compared to the last two seasons. In season 6, I was eliminated in week 27, which was when the Top 20 was determined. In season 7, I was eliminated in week 27, which was when the Top 10 was determined. This season we're starting Week 29 and still at 38 contestants. Things are going to get SUPEREVIL very quickly my friends.

Husband at hospital BP off the scale he is nearly in orbit. Seeing a specialist waiting to hear if they keep him in.

Bridge that connects us to the road nearly washed away last night by storms and rain. Waiting for 'man' to come and fix a temporary one, or the car will stay on the road. (We have a large gutter round three sides like a moat) so only way to our garage and garden is across the wooden bridge....which is half gone. Makes life interesting. Add to that the problems of 'prodigal' son who may return tonight, and life is just dandy.

I still have my Pollyanna smile and just might walk to the pub anyway, not yet though...( a bottle of Sauv Blanc or Merlot can dull some pain.)

Thanks, tried to get him to rest and go to see doctor earlier, was concerned about the threat of a stroke. Glad he is there and being cared for and will hear soon.
