I spent the morning dealing the fraud department from my bank. The "fixed problem" from a little bit ago didn't end up being quite so fixed.

So now I'm waiting for a credit back to my account and to proceed with the "fun" of the process.

I'm not sure what the lesson is here, other than keep an eye on your bank accounts! For that matter, keep an eye on your cell phones, I know two people who have had them stolen in the past week!

Make sure you either have a remote wipe program or Latitude/some other gps tracking device on them. Because the bad guys out there deserve to get caught, and you should have a fighting chance at getting them back.

So, other than that - the day has started off well. ;)

I have the usual round of nonsense to hit you with:

Topic thread: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/528117.html
Work Room http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/528374.html
Second Chance Idol sign up sheet: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/527683.html
and a Home Game thread for those people who want to do SCI, but want to write on the main topic as practice: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/528994.html

Hope your day is going better than mine!

Sorry you're still having to deal with the credit card nonsense. When that happened to me, it was the same thing. The bank promised me it would be very easy, and then they suddenly wanted more forms filled out. *sigh* Ah well, I'm sure it'll get sorted eventually, mine did.

My entry's done and posted. *dances around Green Room* Now time to read what's up, and concrit where people have asked.

I loaned my phone to a kid on the train the other night, after a few others denied him. I said, "sure, have a seat right here," and patted the seat next to me. I surreptitiously hooked my hand around the strap of his backpack and enjoyed listening to him talk to his mom.

*hugs*

People just leave cell phones behind on the counter... if they don't come back in a couple hours, we check their contacts for the emergency contact number, but frequently people don't use that. (Label a contact "in case of emergency" or "emergency contact", for the purpose of allowing whoever finds you to know who to call if you're found unconscious. Once they get an ambulance on its way, that is.) Sometimes we can call their moms, though.

Most of them do call us eventually. Or a friend calls their phone and we answer and tell them to tell their friend to come get the phone. The worst was the one where the battery died after five minutes in the lost-and-found box... it took a day and a half for its owner to retrace his steps and get it.

Edit: forgot the point of this comment.

I hope it's not too terribly much paperwork, and that everything works out for you!

I've heard that about "in case of emergency" being listed in my phone... My phone has a pass code lock do they likely couldn't get in anyway (not right away at least), but I've wondered if that was true. I'd think they would see "mom" on my cell phone and think to calm her, but not sure if they would assume to do so automatically? Because she's 2,000 miles away, calling Java in an emergency first would likely make the most sense anyway...

Anyways, I forgot the original reason for my reply.... That had little to do with your actual comment. I got off track, sorry :p

We are still in Chicago for the day - just went to The Container Store and are now heading to the Art Institute of Chicago for a few hours. Thankfully it is a bit warmer here today - yesterday was about 12 degrees F and today is closer to 30. We will be driving back home late this evening. I may get a small pad of paper so as to work on writing my entry in the car then type it up sometime tomorrow; we'll see how that goes!

Sounds like you're having fun - the art institute would be amazingly cool and interesting, I'd think.

I'm running late on the entry this week too. The pad of paper sounds like a good idea. Maybe I'll steal it and take a notebook to the birthday dinner. Hmmm.

Java and I slept until past 11, you guys. We slept for 12 hours. That never happens. I thought it was like 9 am... I usually wake up about 30 minutes before I wake him up. Usually I'm up at 8 or 8:30. He wakes up at 5:30 at home because of his cat, so he still considers that sleeping in while he's here.

But 11?!? We were tired, even I was. I was so exhausted around 11 pm, which is rare for me on a Saturday. My head feels all congested and the headaches I've had could mean I'm getting sick... I sure hope not!

We missed breakfast (we usually cook it at noon anyway, but hush), which is good because we don't have anything for breakfast here. Or lunch. We went to dinner last night where we had the peanut butter and jelly burger (he seconded the love for it and said next time, he's getting that with an egg on it too! So see? It really is that good!).

Idol entries need to be written. I have three started, I wonder which one I'll go with? :)

My middle sister-in-law loves baking. She's doing her own birthday cake because she doesn't trust anyone to make one as good as hers. I'll find out what sort of cake it is this afternoon.

I hope your cake comes out awesome, and yay for sleeping in a nice bed! Did you get a new mattress or something like that?

It could be worse: SNOW. But no, we've got the below-freezing temps and a gusty wind chill factor. Swear to god, I thought Ember was going to keel over from the wind when we were out on our walk!

Which idea to go on for my entry? Hmmm. I may just end up writing each one out for a bit and see where they lead me.

I haven't started on my home game entry yet, but oh well. Because we had the most awesome best time ever last night!

We went down to our city's arts district, which is actually just like a short five minute drive from our house. But we haven't been there very often for some reason. I plan to change that now.

We went to this venue that used to be like an old warehouse type thing. It's right next to the train tracks and has a loading dock and everything. But now it's a cool place with pool tables and a foosball table and arcade games and a bar and murals and a stage. We saw a play of Dr. Horrible. It was excellent and funny, and they localized some of the references - there was actually a couple of scenes being shown before it got started with the actors chasing each other around local landmarks and being silly in a local comics store. 525

Then we went down to this 24 hour French bakery, which has a luscious interior with great decorating and plenty of comfortable seating. Like, all of the meetup groups in town meet there at least once a week, I think. Anyway, it was insanely busy, being prime time Saturday night, so we ended up eating our caramel salted brownie and drinking hot chocolate and Earl Grey tea in an indoor courtyard behind the bakery. I read a neighborhood newspaper and learned about a benefit being held to support the theater program at my sister-in-law's art school - as you can imagine, the school is dear to the hearts of the people who live in the arts district.

Then we went to a Cajun restaurant that's at the heart of the arts district. It was so freaking cool. My husband got gator gumbo, and he said it was really really good. My shrimp creole was delicious. And we got a chocolate bomb cake for dessert, and omg just remembering it makes my mouth water.

Then we came home and watched the actual Dr. Horrible. :)

So yeah - I've had a totally awesome weekend so far. :) Now I just have to go to my middle sister-in-law's birthday dinner this afternoon, and then maybe later tonight I can start on my entry.

I'm enjoying a quiet day with the spousebeast, just hanging out and doing our thing. It's been the first time in a long time when we've both been well on his day off. We've been kicking around what we're going to do for his 3 days off next week...aside from the fact that I'm unplugging the fucking phone. ;)

Been doing some reading/commenting, but I'm taking the evening off from cerebral pursuits and working on an embroidery project instead. I've only been hauling it around unfinished for 6 years.

From: [identity profile] jacq22.livejournal.com
First ...sorry Gary about the bank crap.. Hope it gets sorted.
More forms before you are at last in the money?

What really riles me is the way when through no mistake of ours(foriegn bank) a cheque was lost and dishonoured. The money was taken out by our bank and we were charged (like a wounded bull)That DAY.
Yet when we needed a cheque cleared from same bank , for a chq. needed for Christmas, did they clear it? NO that would take 28 working days! and although this is a few years ago I have never forgiven them for that 'lost' Christmas. Which meant struggles for us. We aren't with that bank anymore. Sometimes banks suck.

From: [identity profile] jacq22.livejournal.com
My Monday has just started, but had an awesome weekend, with a guy painting the hallway, as I cooked a huge lamb roast and made him continual coffee and snack breaks.
Then grandson and son arrived, wonderful!!, I really think the best feeling is cooking for family, sitting at the table with wine, just perfect.Looking at family photos and comedy on the computer. Some might say the photos were the comedy!
Connection matters, and haven't seen my hunky handsome grandson for a while, he hasn't been to visit, so I made pancakes too, and he told me to make a sauce from butter and icing sugar.(recipes from him!) We picked lemons from our tree, and wow the resulting pancakes were fabulous. No packet mix either. So simple pleasures... can't beat it. Starting a new busy week now, hope yours is better.

Did a show! Cut an act that wasn't coming together, didn't quite have enough time for rehearsal, but it flowed pretty smoothly and the audience loved it. Skating aerial hoop rocked, we got the 8-person tongue-to-tongue fire pass, and the finale was less sloppy than in rehearsal. Tomorrow we'll be better :)

Again - if anyone's near Long Island NY, USA, and wants to see a theatrical circus show tomorrow night at 8PM at Stony Brook University, I have comps still!
