Good morning, everyone! It's my first day back in the office this week, but working from home on Monday's sure does take the edge off the first day back in the office. Coffee also helps!

I thank Gary all the time while I am teaching my college kids. "Oh my wonderful children -- you know who figured out how to eliminate passive voice? Gary. My darlings, we have Gary to thank for the rules about affect vs. effect." They think I'm insane, but I figure it's good karma.

In other news -- I am teaching an 8 week grammar refresher for college students (most of mine are seniors). You guys. It is SO BORING. How can I make this more fun? Is there ANY WAY?!

Make the practice sentences really interesting? My favorites are the ones where, once you have all the punctuation in and all, it tells you something. Like someone from history, or a story, or something usefully informative. ^_^

There's also stuff like grammar bingo and other games, but that depends on what kind of info you're refreshing them on.

The one tine I got interviewed for something, I did mention you Gary... The editors just sucked and decided to credit Livejournal for your success instead. Next time, though, I'll give you a mention.

When I go on my killing spree, I'll likely blame java_fiend. isn't that how things work? Besides, his creepy fiction just drove me over the edge (though between the two of us, he's even admitted I'm more likely to be the psycho serial killer than he is... What a nice compliment from a boyfriend, huh? So romantic).

Grr Universe. Grr.

I just decided to start my "diet" which is a two week thing to cleanse myself of junk food. No sweets allowed for two weeks... I started today. And the best donuts in the world are in the kitchen today. Donuts from a place far away, brought in like twice a year and there's more than usual. I sit right by the kitchen, I had dishwasher duty today where I had to stand right there, smelling their sweetness. And I'm not eating one.

It's testing me. I need to reform my eating habits and I won't change it to "starting tomorrow" again.

No sweets for two weeks?! I have a pile of puppy chow on my counter, a blackberry cobbler in the fridge and, now that Easter candy is hitting the shelves (already?!) I have three bags of those candy coated chocolate eggs in my candy bowl. Not sure I could swing the no sweets thing. *laughs*

After the two weeks, do you get to have sweets again?

Hello Greenies! I had the pleasure of hosting sra33 last night. I made a yummy pot o' chili for supper, and we got to chat and eat before she toddled off to bed around 9-ish so she could leave at o'dark:30 in the morning (around 3am or so, I was sleeping at the time).

But I told her all of the well-wishes and kicks (via java_fiend) that were being sent her way, and she appreciated them (except for complaining that Java was always mean to her, LOL)!

No murder trials for me, thank you very much, but if I attend one or guest star in one, I'll be sure to credit Gary for it!

I've applied for 5 jobs in the last few days, and two interviews so far. Considering I applied for three last night... I kind of like these odds!

I'm kinda liking the job search this time around :D

This is a small, entrepreneurial company. I tend to like companies like that more than large corporations. This could be a good job :)

Those are great odds! Some people send numerous applications and never get an interview at all! Here's hoping you find a good fit and can make your move!

I might be quiet for a few days

My sister-in-law is a senior at the local magnet art school. There was an incident last month and some people blew it way way way out of proportion, as so often happens in American schools.

Her principal was universally beloved by his students. He was a good man. He cared for the school and he put everything he had into it. It was his life's work.

But he was forced to resign over something really stupid. His forced resignation was effective yesterday.

He committed suicide yesterday.

So yeah. I need to be there for my sister-in-law, and if I know her she will be at the forefront of organizing things around honoring her principal and somehow finding justice for him and forcing the people who took his life's work, and thus his life, away from him to pay for what they did.

May you all have a better week than I will.

OK, what is UP with Tribe Redemption? Have you guys read that stuff? How am I supposed to choose between them?!! If you've not read them, do it now.

In other news, today is a child-free day (hooray!) and I'm on my own all day (hooray!) and apart from an appointment I'm free to nap and do housework and catch up with emails. I'd get into the garden but it's going to be 3000 degrees (celcius or fahrenheit, take your pick, it's just hot). I also will probably do the grocery shopping, and go to the post office.

I may eat cake, too.

There was a wonderful variety in the entries, and apart from one that I couldn't get in to I think I read them all.
Brilliant. Now before I can breathe, it will be 'new'topic...

But I might go out and enjoy Friday night first, no cooking and wine tonight!!Yay.

Gary, am thinking of sending my stories off to a publisher, have so many, and you of course will be mentioned when fame comes! but will keep you out of the court case when it happens.
