A few words from clauderainsrm:

This was our first "Open Topic" week of Season 8. It's a time when there are no limits about where someone can go, and what they can explore. Not that there is much of that in the regular weeks of Idol, but there's not even the task of twisting a topic to suit your needs. It's completely open, to showcase what they consider their personal "A-Game".

Which means that anything less than the very best they have to offer isn't good enough. The Open Topic weeks should be a way to showcase the writers at their peak.

Sometimes that is what happens. Sometimes it isn't.

As some folks speculated, this week is special. This week we hand things over to a very special group of people, to read the entries and to determine who will go forward, and who will be leaving us.

I call these people "The Voters". Because that's who they are. A very special group of people who come out, read, comment, and vote for their favorite entries, to keep the writers they want to see continue in it a little longer! You don't get more "special" than that. :)

Beofre we turn things over to whatever their mercy dictates, we have the sad portion of the day, the saying of goodbyes to those leaving us before the poll is even up.

It's a notable group. But then again, at this point, it usually will be:
n_maranda_coy
and
whirlgig
made the decision to drop from the competition.

bewize, kehlen_crow, and superhappytime ran out of byes and were eliminated.

For those remaining, we have a poll.

The contestant with the entry that has the fewest votes, in each tribe, will be eliminated. Possibly quartered beforehand.

The poll closes Thursday, Jan 26th at 9pm EST

I so guessed you were messing with us. Gary is never that obvious! Though I did think that perhaps it was reverse psychology... You made us think gatekeepers, but then we would think it was too obvious so then we think no gatekeepers and Wham! Gatekeepers!

I told Java that you have been extra tricky this season, setting us up for stuff we are used to and then changing it up. He didn't believe me, I think!

Now watch, there will be gatekeepers next week...

Yep. Gary spooked me with that 'special' phrase. I remembered there were some tie-breakers though, so I thought Hmmmm, maybe it will be a regular vote. Whew!

Sorry to lose those folks leaving already- All good talent. The Open Topic entries are so diverse and interesting. I know it's going to make the voting very difficult for me!

Those people should probably remember that even if you were a gatekeeper in any given week, it would be pointless to ask, since gatekeepers aren't allowed to tell anyone they're gatekeepers. Even other gatekeepers.

Gary, it's not letting me check more than one box.

I've closed my browser out completely, come straight here by typing the URL, logged in and voted and it still only saves the first check mark. I don't have any idea how to get it to work. :(

Tried it again. I know the browser cache cleared, because this time I didn't log out, and it made me log in again. I typed the URL from my home page, this is the only open tab, and when I voted and then went into the Tribe Redemption poll to check there was only one checked box. There ought to have been more. :(

Phew read all the stories this week cross eyed and off to my bed, the cat is getting ready to take up all the space on my side! my other crazy cat is in the paint cupboard asleep by the brushes. Gary had us going again the fiend. You had me in a pnic, muttering, "who is voting?"
A lot of hassles with voting it seems...?hope it gets sorted.
Australia day tomorrow I shall sit in the park, and have a free breakfast, enjoy the sunshine and wave the flag, what could be better. Egg and bacon sandwich and coffee. Gossip with friends, and honour given to a local for their service,..we don't know who it is until tomorrow.
