Stumbles into the Green Room.

Howdy!

Fall down: about now. It was a long night.

***

A co-worker was talking about how he listens to “everything”, and how broad his range of music was.
So I asked him about a couple bands, he looked at me like I was making up names. I guess from his perspective, I was.
Reminder to self: When people say that, they mean “everything regularly on the radio”. ;)

Which is similar to when people say they “read everything”, “write everything” and all around “know everything”! ;)

***

So, what do YOU know?
What do you know about your upcoming weekend?

I don't know for sure, but if today's anything to go by, hopefully the weekend should bring with it better health! Yippee!

I'm so unknowledgeable about music. I've never been one of those cool people who know all the trendy bands. Mostly because I can't ever remember the names of the bands.

I think I know I'm ready to start doing income taxes this weekend - at least getting the data I currently have input into the Turbo Tax Premier program I've yet to buy. So I guess I know I'm going off to buy my income tax software this weekend, too.

Don't be jealous of my glamorous life.

Date: 2012-01-13 02:52 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] pixiebelle.livejournal.com
My taxes should be simple this year thankfully. I still pay someone to do them, but that's because there's this guy who is ridiculously cheap (probably cheaper than the software) and he knows how to get the most bang for your buck. I had complicated issues with pulling from my IRA last year that could have made me pay in... But he was able to figure all that out.

And did I mention that he's cheap?

I bet you are tired, Gary. You work so hard for us and we appreciate you.

I'm ready to fall down myself. Ugh. I want today off. Just have to survive the day, huh? Then it's the weekend. That's what I keep telling myself at least. This week has royally sucked. I'm ready for it to be over. And I'm ready for some sleeping in.

I know I need a new career, that much is sure.

What will the weekend bring? Lots of relaxation with [livejournal.com profile] java_fiend if I get my way!

I'm tired, too. The baby is STILL teething and while he slept okayish, he cried in his sleep every 45 minutes to an hour. He was still sleeping, but it woke me up every time. So I'm dragging today. :-p

Sending happy job vibes to you, sweetie...

well I woke up this morning and my back door is frozen shut, so I have to take my dog out front to do his business. Which is so joyful because he thinks he's getting a walk EVERY TIME.

I usually tell people I will listen to any music to prevent confusion. That said, my playlist right now shows my terrible addiction to both movie soundtracks and American Idol, so I probably should step out of the conversation :D

I had an awesome idea for this week, hope it works out for me.

I'm not sure if this should go here or in the work room.

I'm writing fiction this time, and I'm wondering how far it's okay to go. Is it okay to write a semi-graphic description of a behavior that some people will find triggering, or is that consider in poor taste? Should I just hint at the behavior or leave it out entirely?

It really wasn't where I intended to go with this story, and it's not entirely central to the plot but it does work with where I wanted to end up. It's just what came out when I started writing, and I'm not sure if it's a bad idea to go with it or just get it out and then move on and take the story back closer to where I intended it to be.

Date: 2012-01-13 02:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] poppetawoppet.livejournal.com
well have someone read both versions. Have several someones read both versions

(although if it isn't central to the plot then you probably already have your answer right there)

When I say I listen to "everything", which I don't, but if I did, I mean there's a possibility of me liking something anywhere from rock to rap, opera to gregorian, slam poetry to Baroque. But that in no way means I know every artist and genre known to man. I just kinda pick things up as I go. ^^

But as far as me knowing everything? Um. Duh. I do!

My weekend will be spent packing. Packing. Oh... and some more packing! And I need to sell off my futon and end tables, I'd feel bad leaving them here for someone else to clean up. The rest of my stuff has other people's names on them. :)

Off I fly!

I say "listen to everything" with the same idea in mind. I listen to a variety of music. But will I really know every artist? Likely not. I just listen to every style and give it a chance, I can like anything from classical to death metal (and I do). My iTunes is so random. One minute, it's Slipknot, the next it's Lady Gaga and then it's Frank Sinatra. You just never know!

Oh, I don't know about that. When I say I listen to "almost everything", I more or less mean "almost everything". Rock, pop, classical, jazz, 80s, swing, big-band, ska, reggae, progressive metal, new age, blues, easy listening, R&B, soul, rap/hip-hop, trance, electro, dance, fusion, flamenco, salsa, and tons of others. I can't listen to EVERYthing because there are only so many hours in a day, but I at least give it a good stab. :)

cheers,

I have sometimes said I listen to a little bit of everything, which means more or less that I find something to enjoy in pretty much any style/genre, but I try to avoid it because even that much isn't entirely accurate. There are genres I really don't enjoy at all.

Instead, I just say that I have a wide range of musical tastes, and leave it at that.

My weekend will be spent working! As usual. Though I think I will be finally having that late Christmas get-together this weekend. I'm not off as early on Saturday as I'd like to for making social plans, but since I never know from week-to-week, I'd rather make plans on a less-than-ideal schedule than put it off and find that I'm working evening for the next three Saturdays.

What do I know? I know that I got to drive my car to work today and that means that I got to pop in any CD that tickled my fancy. Happened to be a Long Winters one and now I have "Fire Island, AK" stuck in my head.

I still don't really understand what that song is about. This morning, I was pretty sure it was about a murder. One day, I will ask John and he will still not tell me.

Moving on. Happy Friday! Because of last night's 'Big Bang Theory' episode, I am wearing a [small] tiara!

I thought I listened to a broad range of music. Then I did one of those 30 day memes and it transpired that I like folk rock and Eminem.

I know that this weekend will see my husband back. I know it is going to be cold. I know that I am likely to have to mop up more puppy puddles. I know that I'm not going to get nearly as much sleep and rest as I need. And I know I'm going to be happy.

From: [identity profile] mstrobel.livejournal.com
I never do those memes because all I listen to is musical theatre songs, or my favourite musical theatre performers singing other songs. Which is obscure enough to most people even before you factor in the fact that my ipod is split about 60:30:10 - German:Dutch:All other languages. LOL. A couple of the 'other' songs are in English, but looking down my most played list you're down to #26 before you reach the first English language song sung by a native English speaker! And then #44 for the second. Wow. XD

When I was in high school though, I was THE girl to go to for top 40 knowledge.

I don't listen to "everything" but I do enjoy a wide variety of music - primarily pop, but also some hard rock (like Alice Cooper), some alternative rock (like Echo & The Bunnymen), some easy listening (like Yanni), some country, and on rare occasions Jazz (only the upbeat stuff; I have a favorite artist whose name is escaping me, but she's awesome - sort of techno jazz from the 80's or maybe early 90's).

I try my best to read everything (entry-wise) in Idol, but tend to fail most weeks. *shameface*

I'm looking forward to the 3-day weekend. We don't have any specific plans for this weekend, but next weekend we're going up to Louisville to stay overnight in a hotel with an indoor pool and hot tub, and to see a dinner theater production of a comedy called "Boeing Boeing."

Like most of you guys, I like to listen to all different kinds of music, but certainly not everything. I'm wary of saying I know everything about ANYTHING, even those things which I consider myself an expert on.

Anyway, there are no exciting weekend plans in the Ginamarie household. I've barely slept a wink this week for a number of reasons. Last night it was because my middle child came down with the puking flu bug that my eldest had this past weekend. Three year olds do not understand "run to the bathroom." :-/ So lots of cleaning and racing him around and barely any sleep again. Trying to get through a bunch of work projects today, but my energy is limited. Depending on the status of the sickness, we'll see what the weekend will bring. We are supposed to attend two birthday parties tomorrow and then host a movie night at our house since the college sister and her boyfriend are down for the weekend. Then, the girls were planning a trip to the outlet mall for Sunday morning. So I'm HOPING everyone will feel good, but not getting my hopes up too high.

Hi! *offers hugs and hot tea*

Naps are wonderful things, if you have time for one. *offers cookie-shaped pillow*

I listen to everything that I hear. Does that count?

P.S. Does anyone want an update? The hospital released my mother still manic, as she was insisting she's fine and doesn't need help, and they're under the mistaken impression that she has a live-in caretaker. I don't know why they don't make a note in her file or something -- she manages to give them the impression that I live with her every time she goes there. I got in touch with her support people, who are actually trained for this kind of thing, but she won't let them help her either. She's also refusing to speak to her doctor or set up an appointment. So we're going to try to have her admitted to a different hospital against her will, because she clearly needs the help. ...And I was going to put a smiley here, but it's not so much that I'm smiling as that I feel positive about the situation and our ability to provide her with the help she needs, one way or the other.

Aw! Hugs you! I live with someone who has depression and will not treat it. I fully understand the frustrations of a medical system that forces us to take these steps to protect our loved ones. We are trained not to interfere in how another person lives their life, but sometimes we must. Good luck to you. Remember you can only do the best you can.

Hopefully, I will have an entry for this topic. Because I believe I am out of BYEs now. But it was useful to have that rest over the holidays. In addition to all of the usual rushing about, I've had the car accident to deal with and my 17 year old lovebird is sick. So, there is 24-hour bird nursing going on at my house. But the car is looking pristine again and I attend traffic school today. That should free up my mind a little for the topic.

Ack. That sounds like a lot of rough stuff to deal with. Sending good vibes to the bird, as an animal lover I don't like hearing of sick pets :/

I know that doing home remodeling basically by yourself sucks. I am priming drywall today to paint tomorrow or the day after.

Surprisingly, I enjoy stuff like that.

But that's because my therapist says I like putting things together. That's very true too. I'd love to work on remodeling a house, manual labor over a desk job for me any day.

That is why it is easier to say 'I listen to death and thrash Metal', and then nobody can name any bands. And if they can? Instant friends. I love the alliance of metal people...

This is a great technique-- name an offbeat genre, even if you listen to a lot of other stuff that's less easily defined.

I should list my classical music tastes as "Impressionist and early 20th-century" so that I don't find myself in yet another conversation about Mozart.

My daughter, who loves pop music, seems to think I listen to trash metal, when I don't. She calls my music "screamo", which we all know would be AC/DC and not the grunge/Led Zeppelin/Fuel/Staind/Machines Of Loving Grace that seem to grab her attention as being "my" music.

Hey, at least it isn't auto-tuned!

What do I know? I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

With my brain.

This weekend? The temps are supposed to be in the 70's and sunny and I'll be trapped inside the hospital, working.

You are going to be posting a link for Home Game though, right? Cause I still wanna play!!!!

With Your Brain? Would It Look Like This?

Well, I have an unexpected 3-day weekend. Seems that my car saga is still... well... a saga. She had to go back to the shop today so they can fix... something. i don't know. I'm just glad that my boss is understanding and didn't hesitate to tell me to take the time I needed. But still... I hate taking time off. I didn't take a single sick day last year just because taking time off feels wrong. Loved ones had to slap me around last year to get me to take the first week long vacation I've ever taken in my life.

So yeah... I'm hoping to hear some news of the good variety soon. Dammit.

As for this weekend... I'm hoping to have some mellow time with [livejournal.com profile] pixie117 I'm sure that given the deadline, we'll be working on entries this weekend. In between lounging, games and what not.

Assuming I get my car back and it actually works the way it's suppose to work anyway.

*le sigh*

Nothing can ever be easy, huh? *hugs*

I'm going to start my entry tonight hopefully... I think I've got some workable ideas. Of course you can work on your entry at my place, even though I know we have trouble staying focused :P

I know that we'll be watching my son play basketball (two different teams) and ideally, getting him some real basketball shoes.

I'll be putting away the last of Christmas (I swear. No, really). Possibly sanding all the bunny-chewed baseboards in the kitchen to be repainted. And trying to get through all of the on-hold books that suddenly arrived at the library, even though I already have a backlog.

Plus... the entry. Go for the obvious, or risk the peril of doing something unusual? *bites nails*

Risk! GO RISK!!! :D

(Ooh, you could write about Risk! Except I'm not exactly sure how you would work that into the topic).

Good morning....er, afternoon, GR!

I swear, if the crack smoking manatees don't quit messing with the spousebeast's schedule, I'm gonna lose it. Of course, getting up at stupid-thirty meant I got my entry written while eating rum cake, aka the breakfast of champion LJ Idol-ers. ;)

Apparently, one of the guys he works with made the cake for a church bake sale. If that's the norm for church bake sales, I may have to rethink my stance on organized religion. *hic*

What do I know? I know I better get my butt in gear and unearth Kent's Abbey Road Live! (yes, the exclamation point is part of the name) tshirt for the concert tonight. Rumor has it that they're doing "Sgt. Pepper" in album order tonight WITH strings and horns. *squee*

The spousebeast is off this weekend and we have company coming, so I may not be around much. Happy weekend, y'all!

I love the term "spousebeast". Mine is just "the spousal person".

Hope the concert was fun!
