I'll admit, the current numbers of people who are in is rather concerning when you consider that we are coming off a long break. Makes me not want to have them. But hopefully, people will start showing up over the next 24 hours to help calm the nerves.

So if you know someone who hasn't linked their entry yet, give them a nudge and make sure they know when the deadline is - there was extra time to help get people back into the groove. Don't make me regret that!

You wouldn't think that donuts or bagels would be so hard to get right but somehow Sweden manages it.

My weekend is over. It's my (first) son's 5th birthday today!

My weekend's ups and downs were literal - I flew in a plane from Bangkok, home to Kuala Lumpur ;) My inlaws also flew from Australia and arrived yesterday, so they could celebrate the birthday with us today. I feel so incredibly busy right now, but it's going to be good taking the aforementioned son back to school so he can keep himself occupied with more interesting things than he gets at home. I can't help thinking he's well above his age level though. I asked his grandparents whether his cousins who are the same age as him (only a couple months apart either side) are reading as well as my son does, and... they're not really reading at all. Much less writing and spelling things on their own, I guess (that was the thing my MIL is most impressed with my son's abilities). He's going to be tested to move onto another school that starts in May, and part of me wonders whether he'll test above year 1 (which is the grade we were planning on sending him to), and if so, what they'll do with him.

I actually got my entry posted last night early this morning. It's another fictional piece, but I'm really enjoying writing in my little world! So many characters to explore...

My weekend has been mostly uneventful. I did some laundry, got caught up on some TV, and went out to see the new Sherlock Holmes flick last night. We got a $50 gift certificate to our local movie theater for Christmas, so the four of us were able to pay for our tickets and almost all of our concessions with the GC, and only had to lay out about $2.50. Had we attended a matinee we could have probably come in under budget. Ah well!

I think I may head over to Panera and chillax with a bagel and my Kindle. Ciao!

My weekend? Good :) We just got out of bed a bit ago, and trying a new recipe I found for country apple dumplings. They are in the oven and smell so yummy already.

We made my favorite new food last night, lumpia, along with bacon fried rice (yes, I said bacon, it's really good).

Also before I forget, people had been talking about wanting to find ways to get published and whatnot, so I started a post. We have a few good suggestions already, always welcoming more and anyone is free to take from it what they can.

YAY GREEN ROOM! Oh how I've missed thee!!!

A very lovely evening with Miss pixie117. And she's making a really yummy smelling country apple dumpling thingy for breakfast. Yes, it's 115pm but it's *still* breakfast dammit.

We will probably take Annabelle over to the dog park in a while and *hopefully* squeeze in some Rock Band later too. :-) I'll be crashing here tonight so I'll probably have to get up extra early to go to work in the morning since the friggin' Lunchbox on Wheels seems to have a top speed of 12mph. But it'll be nice to not rush home later today and just spend the time dawdling with a very sweet girl.

And hey, I may have my Idol entry up a full day ahead of the deadline. That has to be a personal record of some sort.

That taco soup sound yummy! One of my standby meals is something I call "30 Minute Chili" where I brown about a pound of ground turkey sprinkled with chili powder, then add diced onion and chopped garlic maybe halfway through (you don't want either to burn). When the turkey is just about done, I add a drained can of black beans, a can of Rotel (or diced tomatoes with green chilies), a handful or so of thawed frozen corn, cumin, ground coriander, and oregano. I then lower the heat, cover, and let it simmer for a half hour. I serve it with shredded cheddar and cornbread. If there's enough left over, it makes a delicious, if messy filling for a wrap :)

I suppose this means I should start thinking about dinner...

I still plan to get my entry in (God willin' and the creek don't rise) but I'm also still very, VERY grateful for the extended break we had. Please don't get nervous or have regrets! If not for the break, I might very well have had to drop out.

We de-Christmased this weekend, finishing up today with taking the tree down and putting it out to the street. Hubby always gets melancholy, but I love the return to some semblance of normal. Yes, yes, that's the organizer in me, I suppose!

I have the Munchkins game, as well as Munchkin Zombies. However we played neither this weekend. I'm concerned about my entry this week. Despite the extra time, I have come up with nothing but false starts for my sestina, and with all the stress of work that I landed in immediately upon the return from my vacation, I've hardly had any energy to think of anything else this week. Perhaps I'll have a random stroke of inspiration tonight. Hopefully it will come early enough that I can still get some decent sleep tonight. I'd really hate to take my first bye after a great vacation and the (very kind) extra time that Gary has given us. *sigh* stupid work...

I'm finally feeling less foggy. I almost have my voice back, after a week of sometimes being barely able to produce sound at all. Work was busy this weekend, and I'd have a lot more of my voice back if I didn't have to be there. I had hoped to hang out with waveform_delta this weekend to have our annual late Christmas present exchange, but the health situation prevented that. Gotta take care of myself as well as I can outside of work, you know?

The holidays are hard. Seems like they get harder every year, and sometimes I find myself in a dark place, and anything I write comes from there because that's all there is. I get tired of my own words, my own thoughts, and I just can't imagine anyone else wanting to hear them either.

It's hard to write an entry from there. I have no more byes, however, so I'll either find something or I won't. :/

I have been offline since last wednesday... so that affected my abilities to get things done! although I have a post up now. I missed being able to have it percolate, and come up with something awesome though.

This idol season I feel like I have developed the germs of ideas that I could work up into really good pieces. So I appreciate that! Also, now I have a body of fiction of my own - my first since highschool (except for last year but you know...)

I appreciated the break too. I did a couple of the free topics, but they were stress free. I loved being able to not use my brain for a couple of weeks!

Hello! It's been a while since I've been here. I didn't mean to -- honest! I got all distracted by the holiday season and the holiday hangover.

I've got my entry in! I cut it a bit fine this week, but it's written and done and I'm pleased enough with it (I am hilariously critical of my own work). I like the story and rather wish I had time to illustrate it!

It was SO annoying this week, with all that extra time we had, I was still lacking in ideas, and I set most of Saturday aside to work on it. I did like, proper looking stuff up in the dictionary and everything, and still came up with bupkis. Yesterday I had the germ of an idea, which I did manage to turn into something this evening, but I don't know how well or otherwise I've handled it. I really didn't think I was going to be able to do my idea justice though, so was planning to bye-out, regretably. But, I have an entry, it is done, hoorah! Thank goodness my plans for this evening got postponed, eh? ;)
