Green Room - Week 5 - Day 11

For those of you who, like myself, have had a four day (or more) weekend – Welcome back to the daily grind!

For those who are even more of damn foreigners than the rest – Welcome to Monday, or whatever day you are pretending that it is with your “calendars” and “international date lines”! (as if those are real things)

Now that Thanksgiving is passed, I need to start gearing up on my War on Christmas!

I’m not entirely sure how I’m going to go about it. Maybe start with some greetings of “Happy Holidays” and follow it up with a volley of concussion grenades.

Or maybe I will just put Christmas, and all the other December religious and secular holidays in a poll – like this one http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/500732.html - and eliminate them a few at a time, every week, until there is only one, the Ultimate Holiday. Then everyone will just celebrate that one! Which December holiday are you rooting for to come out on top???

well I ended up working 11-10 yesterday, so much of my reading time got eaten up. As long as LJ cooperates this morning, I'll be reading

well I certainly like Christmas, but it's also my sister's birthday, and that means lasagne, which I only get once a year, due to the amount of money it costs to make. (5-6 pounds of cheese=expensive)

I'm in a bit of a low mood (mostly feeling FOREVER ALONE and FOREVER POOR) but I'll bounce back I'm sure

I missed you while I was away eating too much pumpkin pie (amongst other things I should not eat), green room. My doctor is going to think I'm 35 weeks pregnant instead of 20 on Friday. And it will all be pie.

I particularly enjoy Advent and Christmas, although I am mad that we didn't sing O Come O Come E-ma-a-an-uel at church yesterday. I imagine that your concussion grenades will have no effect if used next to our sometimes ear-hurting choir (although they do volunteer and try hard, God love them).

Ugh. Back to work today. The 4 day weekend was nice, why can't every week be like that?

I had a lovely extended weekend with java_fiend filled with video games we finally decided to play and lots of lounging. I could live every day like that and be happy... But *sigh* I'd need to win the lottery first. Speaking of which, work may be crazy today so I may or may not be around much or finish reading :/

It just depends on how much stuff they pile on me today.

I'm okay with any holiday really. I'm agnostic, but I grew up celebrating Christmas. So I guess that would be my vote.

-still Monday here, even though I wish it weren't because that means it's almost Wednesday, which means November will be over and I'm not ready for that.

Good morning, green room. I am completely worn out. And I have one day left to work before I get a day off.

I've decided the problem with Black Friday is not the crazy people willing to get up at 3am and fistfight with people over iPods and game systems (none of that in my store thank goodness), it's that people apparently go out early to snap up the special deals just to make sure they have them, and then they decide later whether or not they actually want them. Or they buy the same thing at multiple stores, figure out later which one was the best deal, and return the other(s).

I can't even tell you how many iPods that we sold on Friday morning have already been returned. I did four or five returns on them, myself.

In much less complain-y news, my extended family decided to do gift-giving a little differently this year. Instead of everybody trying to give a little something to everybody, we drew names (and decided on a $25 spending limit). I'm looking forward to this, because it's so hard to get a decent gift for everybody when I have to split my budget four or five different ways, and it prevents gift giving from just becoming a gift card exchange.

Today is a well-deserved day off :D

Unfortunately it's all about getting errands and such done. Which reminds me -- I cannot, for the life of me, think of what to get for a $20 Yankee Swap gift for work. Usually I resort to a Yankee Candle gift card since every female coworker, myself included, cannot get enough of YC. I'd like to be a bit out-of-the-box this year ;)

Oh, and I roasted my very first turkey yesterday. It's not as difficult as it seems. Trust me on that.

LOL the "war on Christmas." I am currently fighting jet lag and side-eyeing the massive Christmas displays that I walk past to get to my office building. I like holiday cheer as much as the next person, but I see that thing and pick up the unintentional subtext of "you don't belong here." Somehow, the itty bitty Hanukkah display in the corner makes that worse and not better.

Good Morning!!!

It was another very wonderful weekend with a very wonderful girl. And I'm very happy to report that instead of returning to the Daily Grind today, I won't be returning to the Daily Grind until *next* Monday! Woooo Hooooo! I took a week vacation from Ye Ol' Salt Mine... I've never taken that much time off of work before. Ever. So it's strange. But kinda cool too. Though, it won't all be lounging and loafing... I have much work to do to wrap up my soooper seekrit project by this weekend. So keep your fingers crossed for me, folks!

But before I delve into that, I have a lawn to mow this morning. It's irritating me so I need to give it a quick cut so it doesn't freaking haunt me all day.

Hope everybody had a nice holiday break. Unless you don't celebrate Turkey Day... in that case I hope you had a nice weekend! Hope everybody is well!

Wait. No. This is Monday, and there is nothing merry about a Monday. Mine is off to a less-than-awesome start. All of these awesome Cyber Monday deals keep popping into my inbox, but I can't take advantage of them from work. And then I get one non-sale one and it's from one of my BFFs, who just found out over the holiday that her mom has a pretty brutal stage of The C Word. And, of course, she lives way far away and I can't bring her wine and ice cream. :(

On the other hand, I can send her cookies, which means I will have to make them. Which means, oh darn, I'm going to have to take nibbles of the dough! To make sure everything is correct, of course. Yes. That's it...

I know my husband enjoyed his four day weekend (even though he was sick one of the days), but I am personally a little glad to have the apt to myself this morning. I have a routine, you see, that just doesn't involve him, and I am excited to get back to it.

Almost done reading/voting. Still not commenting on as much as I'd like, but it's getting a little easier as the weeks go by. ^_^

This year I will be celebrating both Hannukah AND Christmas. :) Need to make sure baby girl has connection to family traditions from both sides. I'm trying to figure out how to create more traditions that don't revolve around consumerism, though--for both values reasons and financial reasons.

My weekend was pretty good. Finally got a warm winter coat option (fleece and shell combo). Spent lots of time with my love. Baby might be starting to learn a night routine.

I'm three weeks out of the hospital today and starting to feel like I can handle day-to-day life. Of course, that's largely because my partner's parents are awesome and help out a ton.

Today is a day off after a nearly 70 hour work week that went better than it had any right to go (I do think some of that was due to me, but mostly theatre just seems to have a way of going well when you least expect it).

Sadly, on this day off I need to do exciting things like vacuum and laundry. Oh and take a nap. Definitely on my to do list.

I'm voting for my birthday (December 23rd) to come out on top! That's a holiday in my house, LOL. Otherwise, I need to note that Hanukkah begins at sundown on December 20th, and each of the eight nights should get its own poll!

We've got the lights up on the roofline of the house, and some of the stuff up in the yard. Still need to put out the net lights on the bushes, but it has been raining since yesterday, so that's put the kibosh on the outside decorating for the nonce. Maybe tomorrow.

I don't know what the heck we'll be celebrating. I am pagan but was raised Catholic; Kent's not religious at all, and we just celebrated the only holiday that ever mattered in his house growing up. I won't be around the kids or my blood family, and I'm just a little depressed about the whole thing.

Oh, and good morning, GR. Sorry to be such a downer today. :(
