This is the first weekend I've had Saturday AND Sunday off together in a long time!! I'll be working on my brutally neglected NaNo.

This is pretty much the last you'll see of me til Sunday afternoon. I have my annual choir retreat this weekend, where we learn 80% of our Christmas concert in two days, a week before said concert. It's fun, but lots and lots of hard work.

I love our vets. They really are dedicated men and women and I totally couldn't do the job they do (I love animals but I don't think I could remove myself enough).

Speaking of vets (the other kind), one of my lj friends is retiring today from the army. He has just come back from Afghanistan and it's been so interesting to read his thoughts. So I'm thinking of him, today, too.

I was a pre-veterinary medicine major for a bit before deciding I couldn't do it. I decided real medicine would be easier for awhile. That says something about me, huh? Then I decided chemistry was hard and I didn't want to be in school forever. Silly me.

Today I will be running sprints for NaNo and resting. I did a ton of cooking yesterday (yes, I did make the mushroom & asparagus risotto, butternut squash soup, and a spinach salad, as well as some cocoa oatmeal cranberry muffins for my partner to take to work).

At some point I will need to do some writing... I skipped yesterday for NaNo so I'm a tiny bit behind.

This weekend we're going to see this great Americana musician and I'm very excited for it!

Today is childproofing day in our house! Max went from barely crawling to fully mobile within the space of a week. Our house is so not ready for this.

Tomorrow, we have people coming over. Sadly, it's one of those more-effort-than-fun things, but we shall make the best of it. I'm going to make carrot cupcakes, which is always nice. :D

Sunday is a chill day plus dinner out with my parents and my brother, his wife, and daughter. Max and Lexi are 3 weeks apart in age. It's always an adventure when we all go out to eat.

Childproofing. Sounds like a challenge. I've never had to childproof a home, but I've had to dog proof for a giant dog that will devour anything (and that can reach the countertop by standing next to them). That was not a fun phase.

This morning, Carrie has to get bloodwork done, the kind when you gotta fast for 12 hours (and I'm bloody hungry) then well not sure if we'll head into work (we work in downtown Oakland) We'll be watching the news for the next hour to see if there's any "Occupy Oakland" stuff going on today.

I'm kind of hoping there'll be some so we can work from home, I don't mind doing that on a Friday. Plus we don't have hell of a lot of work to do actually, so we'll see what happens.

Hi! Day off today! This is a wonderful thing! It's cold and miserable today but it doesn't matter because I'm very content to stay in the house and relax!

I have to take 2 of my dogs to the vet for their annual shots and such. My checkbook will scream then. Sigh. But it must be done.

Happy Friday! I'm so glad the weekend is here. Though I discovered the hard way that the new roommate gets up extra early on Friday... I tried to hang onto as much sleep as I could with her moving around. I shut my door, but my pets don't like that and protest. So I was really up shortly after 5 am and that's just not right! (Java_fiend: Before you jump in and say that's what you do when you stay over Monday, no.. It's not. She was going in and out while not being quiet with shutting the front door. You never wake me up like that).

Plans for the weekend? Be lazy. I find when we make plans to play video games or anything, we never do. So no plans... Just laziness. Next weekend is java_fiends's birthday... Then I'll have plans :)

We have a wedding to attend for friends - a couple who are not the typical "just starting out" kind; they're combining two established households and, therefore, need very little. Thusly, they haven't registered anywhere, so gift ideas has been a real challenge for a bunch of us. Everyone is asking, What are YOU gonna get them?"

We've decided to go with a set of really nice wine glasses (which they don't have) and some bottles of wine to go with that. It should be a fun event, except I hate the 4-hour gap between wedding and reception.

I have today off which is good. I have every Friday off now so it's nothing too new. It will hopefully mean writing my entry this morning and starting to study for my class later. Yesterday I went shopping and bought a bunch of clothes so I have to put all of those away too. I got good deals including two pairs of pants for five bucks each! Yay.

So just a quiet day here. Happy veterans day to all who have served our country and to those who celebrate it with friends and family.

Today is the day for the Stupendously Fierce Shoes, as they make me feel pretty and awesome, and I need that right now. Lots of junk kicking around in my head right now. Part of me wants to force a resolution, another part would rather let things stay how they are for a time.

There's that whole 'Be careful what you wish for', it's biting me in the ass.

I'm skipping croissant duties tonight to go to an 11/11/11 birthday party! Husband has a friend coming over to keep him company though, and since the market's dwindling he has a little "less" work to do, so I don't feel tooooo bad.

After the market tomorrow? relax, relax, clean like mad, and relax. One day we'll catch up to our cleaning...

Today I'm thankful for the bravery and service for all the men and women who are Veterans. Especially my lovely wife and my brave father.

This week, I hope I will comment more on entries instead of just reading. For the past week I really have NOT been in a sociable/commenting type mood.

My father's heart ablation is scheduled for next Friday, so here's hoping this week while he is off his blood thinners in preparation for the procedure will be safe for him.

We'll be reformatting my computer and I'll be cleaning and getting the house ready for Thanksgiving. (So, in other words, I'm rearranging furniture and making sure we have enough forks.) Tonight, though, I'm off to girl's night (Bunco!).

And in honor of all the Vets in my life, I even dug out the ol' basic ARMY gray t-shirt. (Don't tell the Navy guys, though, but I lost the Navy one in one of the moves.)

I love having a 3 day weekend, yay! Huge shout out to all the Vets and any currently serving military folks for doing what you do / did for our country. My uncle was in the Navy way back during WWII. He passed away several years ago. One of my best friends has a hubby currently in the Air Force, serving overseas in Germany. He just got home for a visit a few weeks ago, it was great to see him again!

Otherwise, catching up on some TV and laundry, and pondering the topic. Aka, the usual!
