Green Room - Week 3 - Day 6

Yesterday, the state of Mississippi had the chance to make a historic vote. Unfortunately, they instead decided to vote on things actually on the ballot.

They could have voted on anything - but NO, these people had to go and actually fill in the proper blanks. Imagine if they had instead decided to vote on the Louisiana Purchase, or perhaps on Boxer Rebellion. Maybe the entire state would get together and decide if Richard Hatch was going to win the million dollars. You know, taking the time to see if time truly was fluid and they could change the course of human existence at the ballot box!

Instead, we get the same old tired reasoning. Not just from them - but from places across the country, and doubtlessly across the "world". People standing up for the issues that they care about, instead of standing up because someone just stole their chair!

It's just not right.

Something else that is just "not right" is me - and what I have on my mind is that we still have a couple more days to vote http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/494625.html - a couple more days to support your favorites, and change the course of Idol history (or at least map out this season's future).

So if there are entries that are not getting the love they deserve, make sure other people hear about them!

Right now there's a tech examining the oil burner. I am hoping and praying that whatever's wrong with it is a quick fix because, if it isn't, I'll be a very cold Kizzy :brr:

Jack Dog also shredded a bunch of papers I had on my desk. Some of them were important and I'd put them out of his reach. He somehow got to them while we were asleep, I guess :headdesk:

I have to go to the dentist today...

I gave in and called after a conversation in the GR I had yesterday. I had a filling and an onlay about a month ago and it's hurt to chew on that side ever since... I just avoided doing it. But now even drinking cold stuff hurts so bad. Normally I'd wait until I was in excruciating pain before I go, but the GR conversation motivated me. See? The GR does good things.

In better news... I bought a little heater for my desk at work and a blanket (both conversations I had here yesterday today). The blanket is so warm and cozy, I'm having trouble convincing myself I need to leave it...

I had a bit of a revelation today: I was taking the train back from my boyfriend's house and saw myself in the train's window and thought, "I am a writer." I've never actually thought that before without prompting and it was kind of a big deal. I have NaNo and Idol to thank for that! Today it's finishing the small hill of dishes in my sink and catching up on NaNo. What should I have for second breakfast/lunch?

We went our for breakfast yesterday after we'd had breakfast here -- maybe an hour or two between the two? The second breakfast was enough to keep me sated for most of the day. I didn't even think one iota about food until around 9PM last night when I realized that there's nothing in the fridge...

Think I am dealing with the side effects of getting my flu shot yesterday. Never had a bad reaction before so I'm not sure if that is the cause of my icky feeling or not.

Yesterday I went and went and went...and I'm determining that the new normal in my life no longer allows for naps. This saddens me.

Busy also means I haven't been refreshing the poll or reading. Hope to do some of that today while at work, as a break from reading for class. I'm not feeling confident in my entry...feel like I fell into the telling instead of showing :-/

Yuck! I had a horrible reaction to a flu shot once and that was the last flu shot I'll ever have. Didn't know I was allergic to eggs at the time. Hope you feel better.

I'm on the train on my way downtown for a meeting this morning. Usually we all pile in our boss' car and make it so heavy that it bottoms out on the slightest dip, but they moved the meeting so early that I went straight from the garage to the metro. I'm now having lots of time to realize I really should have eaten something.

Got some reading and voting done yesterday with more planned for this afternoon. I think I really am going to be able to read all the entries this week!

I had a brutal night last night so I'm hoping tonight is better. Right now everyone else is asleep and I'm kind of enjoying the quiet alone time :) and now I'm going to go and eat some cereal. The kitchen could do with cleaning up but I'm kind of hoping that those elves that finished that tailor's work might come and do my kitchen during the night. Or were they mice? In that case I guess the big dog and three cats might put them off...

I've hennaed my hair (did I say that in yesterday's GR?) and now I'm far less grey than I was! Yay! (Not that grey is bad, but I was going REALLY grey and I'm vain and only 35).

It's okay, Mississippi didn't pass one piece of historic legislation, but they did pass another, an incredibly racist and classist bit of legislation that requires all voters to present a photo ID in order to vote. Which is basically a way around laws that use poll taxes to keep the poor from voting: you need to pay to get a driver's license or other ID. It also reduces the number of voters in inner cities where many people don't drive. So we can at least pat them on the back for still keeping up the hard work of preventing black people from voting, almost 50 years after we supposedly adopted a civil rights bill in this country. Awesome!

I'm really not sure what to think about people who pass laws like this, you know? It's sad these things are am issue today.

I was cranky this morning because it appeared that a coworker hadn't sent me some stuff I needed for a conference later this week, but after checking Fedex, it's on a truck for delivery today. Yay! Now all I have to do is find my motivation. Has anyone seen it?

My wife, Lizbeth, accidentally left her phone, nicknamed The Lifeline, at home today. Bad news!

Cookies... I think the beautiful Lizbeth purchased me some Nutter Butters earlier this week. ... ... Breakfast!

My favorites so far are all doing pretty well. The only one who looks like they need some more love is _magister_ludi. But I'm nowhere near done reading. I'll get some more done today, but I also have to start packing for my choir retreat this weekend (first thing in the bag--the music. I can go to Walmart if I forget deodorant and toothpaste, but the music is essential). I've about given up on reading all the entries in a given week.

So, last night, I'm sitting with my laptop, opening up another tribe's group of entries to read, and all these little Windows of Doom start popping up. I can't escape them. Critically low on RAM! Critical error! Death to Magrathea (my machine)!
Apparently that Java update wasn't really a Java update.

I will now be voting on the world's slowest computer. It might take me all day to get one tribe done. :/

Anyone else notice that your sleep patterns change with the clocks? I tend to wake up when it gets light--meaning I oversleep before the fallback, but undersleep now.

I notice this too. I'm more awake in the morning than I was before the change. I figure my body still thinks it's an hour later and goes "woohoo! Sleeping in again!"

oil burner update

The tech just had to run over to Home Dopey to get extra drill bits because the ones he had are now broken from trying to drill into the burner :headdesk: He commented something like, "Whoever installed this obviously didn't want you to ever have it repaired. This has never happened to me before!"

I don't even want to THINK of how much this is going to cost...
