Welcome to the polls for Week 3 of LJ Idol!

The first thing you are probably going to notice is the sheer number of byes. I figured that would be the case when I threw the topic out there this week. The first part of November tends to be tough enough, but add a topic that, on the surface, seems "a bit off" and you have something that has the potential for that effect.

It's always a gamble taking a "bye", especially this early in the season. But sometimes that is the move to make, depending on what else is going on in your life.

Which is something else that you may notice - that there are 14 contestants who have "byed out" and thus automatically eliminated from the competition. In this case, that means they never actually submitted an entry. Some were newbies from Spotlight. Which I expected would happen. People always warn about the high number of folks who join, and then wander off. I think, under the circumstances, that number ended up being very small, compared to what I've seen occur in other groups.

Some of them though were also old friends/veterans. So Life happened to them as well. You never know when it will - and how bad it will be. For some, they wandered off. For others, Life just has them tied up at the moment. It's usually a combination, but it's always a shame. There seemed to (from what I saw of the journals of those individuals) be some interesting people, and I was looking forward to getting to know them.

Alas, it was not to be. Maybe next time. Hopefully, they will keep their eyes on the community to see if there is another shot (somewhere down the line in the season) for them to get it right, and participate, maybe when their schedule frees itself up.

On the other hand - the contestants remaining have certainly proven themselves more than up to the task of being a fascinating and talent group! The upside of the number of byes taken this week is that there is a greater chance for a casual reader to take in more of the entries, and maybe find some new favorites in the process!

There are certainly more than enough choices to qualify for that!

Who stepped up and polished a turd? I guess the voters will end up telling us!

The contestant with the lowest vote total for their entry, in each Tribe, will be eliminated.

Unfortunately, I took a bye week due to things in my personal life which were - literally - like poo. Doubly unfortunate, they were so like poo that I couldn't bear to write about them. They're still poo-like, but slightly less poo.

Maybe I should say "poo" more.

I was feeling pretty good about the topic, actually, but the two personality assessment reports due for grad school at the same time (and apparently, three days of teaching Kindergarten) more or less killed me. I hate taking a bye this early, but frankly, anything I would have dashed out at 5 this evening would have really been a polished turd!
