Welcome to Season 8 of LJ Idol!

This week I threw contestants a bit of a curveball by skipping the standard "Introductions" and going instead with "When You Pray, Move Your Feet".

I think the results speak for themselves, and that this is already shaping up to be a great season! (Or at least a very interesting one! Perhaps "interesting" is more accurate though! :D)

Regardless of that - there is some fantastic reading to be had, so let's skip of the bs and get right to why you are here.

There are 8 tribes. The bottom vote-getter from each may be eliminated.

The poll will close Thursday, October 27th at 10pm EDT

For those new to the competition, or LJ polls in general, you can vote for as many of your favorite entries as you wish. So there is no need to play favorites - go out and discover some new ones too!

Just by posting, and taking part in this season, these contestants have taken a step that many people never bring themselves to make, putting themselves and their work, out there. It's not always easy. But hopefully it will ultimately be a rewarding experience.


One of them is about to start the journey to become the next LJ Idol! Hopefully, the rest of them will be on journeys of their own, or at very least have a lot of fun writing!

Also, if anyone is looking for a spreadsheet I'm testing auto-generating one via Perl and google docs. Can find it here (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgKi_EVgKVqldFpXNHdreUZJWFpMX0cwYnpzdFlFQXc&hl=en_US) if you'd like to look, I'm not sure it's perfect but should be a good start :) Also unsure on the whole permissions thing so people can make their own google doc copies of it, give it a try (make sure you're logged into google and File -> make a copy) and let me know if it works.

Dumb question - only people with LJ accounts can vote? I thought I read something about people can log in through FB/Google? Just want to make sure I have this right when I'm logging in and spreading the word :)

LJ allows you to log in, and vote/comment from FB, Twitter and Open ID accounts. Just make sure people are only using one account to vote.

Not sure if this is the best way to do it, but since I don't have much time I've decided to focus on how people write their beginnings this week. Well-written beginnings are very important in writing, and if you can't pull your audience in with that first paragraph then you're gonna have problems as an author. So I'm going through them all and seeing if I can get pulled in by the first paragraph. If you can't hook me, then I'm not voting for you. Sorry.

I have stayed up far too late and have finally finished reading (most) of the entries. I say "most" because there were some that just couldn't keep my interest (sorry! :( ).

GodDAM competition is stiff! :) Still, there's something really sweet about reading over things and recognizing entries that you really liked when you read them earlier in the week. marjory, liret, I'm looking at you two. :D
