How are you doing today?

Probed and prodded or easy and breezy?

With a day left on the topic, I notice that there still are a lot of people who haven't turned theirs in yet: http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/443328.html then again, this does seem to be the season of the last minute slackers. :P

Some seasons are full of the "throw this together and get it out of the way" but this bunch seems much more deliberate. Which could be why the quality is so high. But it's far more funny for me to just call you a bunch of slackers, so that's what I'm going with!

I haven't started writing at all yet! Yesterday I had to go to this film screening/panel discussion, and this morning, I was up at dawn (actually, the sun wasn't up yet) to go to the doctor. I'm hoping I'll be able to get some writing done this afternoon, but I may also just crash and burn since I was up so early...

Happy Monday. Off today. It's nice to have the break on a Monday too.
I'd sorta thought I was asking the Universe for too many favors: make The Mothership and friend CM better. Give me a better job. I even reflected that I'd never want to climb the success ladder if it meant someone I cared for had to lose out. Well, CM is somewhat better. The Mothership is managing. I didn't get either job I was trying for.
Glad to have less physical distress for my peeps, but man, the job stuff kinda pisses me off. I'm trying to fight off feeling like a low life loser, because I know Erato ally I'm not. The emotional part isn't as easy.
Sigh.....

Oh I know the job stuff all too well. It took me two years after grad school to find a job and trust me, I felt like the biggest loser ever. But I found something and while I like to complain that I'm overworked and underpaid (I am in a much lesser position than I'm qualified for), I appreciate the heck out of it. Applying for jobs is worse than trying to get a date on ones self esteem, I swear...

But hang in there. The economy can't suck forever!

Poking and prodding? Nah...but I did have a dream where java_fiend and I met Gary and another male idoler we couldn't place but knew we should know. We met at a fair and got drinks at a bar, which is funny since I don't believe any if us actually drink alcohol...I even thought about that in the dream and how weird it seemed...but hey, I met Gary in my dream!

My entry is meh. I'm not feeling my idea, so I might have to switch gears. We shall see what tonight beings. It's about the only time I have to seriously write and trust me, it's tight. I be scared each and every week with this new schedule!

As for today, it's soggy. Wet and grey outside. I'd rather be out splashing in puddles than here at my desk. At least I'm looking forward to the gym this morning. That's a noted and important change in attitude.

Also it's Monday, which means that I have to deal with clusterfuck e-mails and my co-workers being Judgey McJudgersons. Who's to say spending my weekend watching the Lis Mis concert over and over isn't an appropriate response to existence? SQUARES APPARENTLY. THAT'S WHO. I totally left the apartment to give blood and see Paul!

Then I realized I'd commented on the weekend GR.
Will get to work on my entry soon. I had something important to me to post, and it didn't fit the prompt, so I just posted it as a regular LJ entry.

Some thoughts I wanted to share, and did on the weekend GR, but will add them here for the weekday crowd:

I noticed that when I write memory pieces, like my entry this last week, I'm kinda being an archaeologist of my own life, picking up an artifact, dusting it off and examining it from new and different angles. And thus the commenters become fellow researchers, making their own observations and adding notes. And for that collaboration I am truly grateful.

G'mornin' all. The Great Backyard Peace Accords at my homestead have been shattered. For those who followed along with my saga last season, the Gopher from Hell has returned. And it appears that he's brought friends with him this time. (either that or he is one seriously busy little bastard) So it appears that major combat operations will once again need to be carried out in my former little slice of happiness... aka my backyard. (insert a long string of horrible profanities here)

Other than that... it's Monday. Thankfully, I've got T-Minus 3 1/2 hours to go before Freedom Time. Hope everybody is having a tolerable day!

I think I jinxed you...just last week, I wondered if the gopher would be back this spring. Yikes. Though I wonder if this will include more innocent photos that look dirty like that hose one? Because that was seriously funny!

Tolerable? I'm contemplating how the heck I can get out of my line of work after today...that tells ya what kind of day I'm having. Being a hoodlum sounds appealing if I didn't like showering so much :p

I'm hesitating big time over this weeks entry. I've got something that's mostly written, and I really like it as a piece of writing. The problem is - it's something I swore I wouldn't do because I don't want to be seen as fishing for sympathy votes.
I'm also not sure I want the subject to define me as a person - especially on the internet, where people don't actually know me.
I don't know. I don't know if I'm ready to share it, and I don't want to be voted out on something that really matters to who I am.
But you know, I'll probably do it anyway.

We have a cupboard at work that you need to really slam in order to make it stay shut. It's a ground level one and today, I found that if I slam it as hard as I possibly can, it's much nicer when my leg is NOT in the way. This enormous bruise on my left knee now matches the one on my left elbow from when we were walking home last night and I didn't notice how close a wall was. For shame.

As for what I'll be doing today - I'll be spending it editing photos, which is not as fun as it sounds. It's quite tedious, actually. I will also write my entry... at some point.

A Very Short Story Based On Mirage (Not My Entry, Yo)

The first time you think you see a refreshing pond of water in an oasis, while lost in the desert, you are tempted to run to it, fall to your knees and scoop big refreshing handfuls of water into your mouth. When you get a mouthful of sand, you realize you've made a grave error.

The second time this happens, you might be forgiven for doing the same thing again. You let your burning thirst get the best of you, sure. Maybe you should consider the fact that hot sand doesn't feel a thing like water - even hot water. Yes, the strange optics in the desert made it appear like there was something there, but your optic nerves don't extend to your fingers.

So, I could ignore one or two mouthfuls of sand, but Lou, this is the ninth time you've filled your mouth with sand, and its starting to worry me. I worry that you're developing a taste for sand at this point. What's more, your mad dash across the desert each time you see one of these things is making you sweat buckets - surely not a good idea for a guy who is overweight and severely dehydrated.

And, no, you can't ride on the camel. If you'd wanted a camel, you should have rented your own.

Although this new schedule is screwing with me a little. I just posted my entry, which was not entirely what I expected it to be, but it is what it is.

I also wrote a rather long response to a "know it all" guy about the longevity of cruise ships, and yanno, went to work, took care of the kids, made some yummy pork chops, etc. I am now exhausted.

I'm very much missing GR interaction. I was in here just about every day last season, and I rarely make it in here at all lately (when I do it seems well past when everyone else has left). Miss you guys!
