It's Doomsday!!

You make it through this and it's eternal fame and glory! Or you know, trying to get to the Top 50. One of those two. Maybe both. I can't guarantee the fame and glory part. But stranger things have happened.

Last night I went to my niece's softball game. She's been concerned, because she really hasn't been doing very well on the field. But she's only been playing about a month and the majority of her team has been at it for years now.

She got up to bat twice last night. The first time the coach called for her to bunt. She did.

They went to throw her out, and the ball sailed over first base. The coach was screaming his head off to "run". Everyone was. She made a simple bunt into a triple.

The next time they started with a bunt, but after a couple balls, told her to swing.

They've never told her to swing during a game. Only practice.

She took the first swing of her life during actual game conditions - and drove that thing right into left field. I can still hear the "whack" from that hit.

Why am I mentioning this? Other than being overwhelmingly proud of my niece? Because even what you see as something simple can be made into a something great.

And of course sometimes you just have to *swing* when you see that ball coming at you. Even if you don't think that you can.

In that first case, she ended up being out. Why? Because in her excitement and inexperience - combined with her coach, standing next to first, jumping up and down so amazed and excited for her yelling his head off, she missed touching first base!!
The ump felt horrible - he was excited too. But he had to do it.
Everyone got a good laugh about it.

In the second - they threw her out at first.

Hers was the last play of the game - and her team wasn't anywhere close to winning. When that last out was called on her, the entire team ran out of the dugout to where she was and were hugging her and acting like she had just hit the game-winning home run.

Why am I am mentioning this? Other than being overwhelmingly proud of my niece?

In the first case - details are important. You can make the best hit you can, and make the most out of a situation. But make sure you touch all the bases. :)

In the second - it's how you play the game. It really is. Winning is great. But doing well, when you thought all hope was lost - and giving it your all anyway, that's something truly worth celebrating.

...and trying not to fall asleep. Had a massage therapy session last night and it wore me out!!! That stuff is not to be taken lightly.

Oh, and I have chorus practice tonight...oh, and I should work on my Web site and do some professional reading...and....and....

On this last day before the top 75 I am going to make myself busy at work and NOT THINK about my entry being up. I've done what I've done, it's not up to me anymore.

Of course, I'm also going to EVENTUALLY shave and put on pants and go to work. Yes, I'm still having issues with pants. It's a life long struggle for me. But then during my lunch break I think a friend and I are going to go to Border's and see if there's anything left we want to buy in their store close out sale. AND THEN AFTER WORK IT'S TACOS, BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS ON TUESDAYS.

All of this, of course, is subject to me not killing one of my neighbors in the next 30 minutes for blaring his shitty bass from his shitty car speakers at 9am. REALLY? IS THAT WHAT WE'RE DOING NOW?

Gary, I love that story! How old us your niece? If that were an entry, I'd vote for it, being that I'm a sucker for a good baseball/ softball tale! 

I'll be dodging raindrops (again), working and going to Zumba.

Today we went food shopping and now we have food! It's such an affluent feeling, having food.

I also managed a nap, which was good because I had almost exactly 2 hours sleep last night, and find it hard to function on that much.

That was the good. The less fun thing involved a no-longer-constipated, yet nappy-free, toddler and the neverending poo that ensued. Really: ugh. At least she's no longer constipated, right?

I'm so excited for your niece. That's just awesome, and she will just keep getting better and better with practice! I know how frustrating it is to feel like you're surrounded by people that are all better at something...and then knock it out of the park. It's a great feeling. I'm glad she got to experience that :)

My day? Work and more work. I'll scramble to finish my entry tonight after work. The morning has been stressful and let's just say when parts are no longer attached to your car that should be (at 7 am), it's gonna be a looong day.

But I colored my hair a much darker red and I have a new look going for me at least. I think I miss the more natural lighter red though...but at least it's hair and the color can always fade :)

This morning I got out of the house early and picked up a dozen Panera bagels to bring to work. Yum! I got my entry posted last night, so that's a relief - I hope it goes over well!

Tonight after work is my weekly bowling league, which is why it was important that I get my entry done yesterday, since the league keeps me busy from 6-9pm or thereabouts - ie: no last minute posting!

So - bagels, bowling, and a brave front. Oh, and undies with martini glasses on them, LOL. That about sums me up today. =)

Today I'm going to be working on the Agriculture Week special section at the paper. (I'm primary editor on the project) Due to slow ad sales it will publish at the *end* of Ag Week, but since most people don't know when that is, I suspect we will get away with it.

Congratulations to your niece! That's nicer than my story that I posted for SCI, since my "hit" wasn't during a game.

DST is kicking my ass, Sunday I was fine but yesterday not so much. I still dislike the new, earlier start to DST but grumbling isn't going to change it.

Today I have class and need to finish homework for a different class and then I have a show. My entry is in and I need to start reading; there's no telling what the vote for this week will hold.

Today has been a busy one so far. I was able to finish my entry and post it, so at least that's done. I need to finish a couple of work projects and also eat some lunch and then I'm back on the road with my afternoon kid-watching.

Much like many of the other contestants, turning the clocks ahead has screwed with my schedule. Between that and the three-month-old who hates to sleep, I'm completely exhausted. Things are coming together for the babies' baptisms on Sunday. Our centerpieces wound up being a lot more complicated to put together than we imagined, but we should be able to get them done before Sunday (or die trying). I still have to figure out what I'm wearing.

In fantastic news, college sister will be home in a few days, and she gets to stay for the whole week!

Finally got my entry finished up and posted this morning -- almost had a heart attach this morning when I glanced at some paperwork that indicated today was Wednesday instead of Tuesday, lol. I was all "OMG NOOOOO! I missed the deadline!" and so on before realizing it was still Tuesday.

I'm one of the few people who actually likes turning the clocks ahead an hour -- I hate the loss of daylight in the evening hours over the winter and always look forward to getting the big chunk of it back. Weird, I know. ;)
