I feel like you really like trying to make us me think it's going to be a gatekeeper week.

Today is the first day I've had the chance to think about starting to write one of the ideas I've got for the open topic. But then, what if you pull another open topic on us next week? D: After that nail-biting tie-breaker, I'm seriously thinking I should just go ahead and use my last bye. After all, this is the last week I can.

Survived the weekend! My dad had a piano concert and I am super proud of him.

I did some baking, but no new recipes, as I was in a hurry. (There is, however, a slice or two of lemon poppyseed cake and a couple double chocolate chip cookies leftover... grab them before they're gone!)

And I've started on my entry, but it's a long story that I'm trying to tell concisely but without leaving out any gripping details... it's usually a story that I tell verbally, and I'm a bit slow at putting it into words on paper for some reason. I'm about halfway done, though, so I'm hoping to finish out tomorrow and then do some serious editing, since it is a longer piece. (I hope you'll all still read it!)

The weekend's left me feeling more ragged than it should have. I think I have a news tragedy hangover. Which in no way compares to being in the situation, but being beaten over the head with just how much you CAN'T do anything will wear you down, you know? I'm mostly just glad that my JET friend came home over the summer, instead of staying in Japan for another year. I know she's here and safe. I'm waiting to hear from a couple others, but for now I just hope everyone can get what they need.

But, I went to a small family birthday party for my not!niece, who turned three last week. It was a rather nice distraction. Now I'm finally home in Orlando, a good seven hours later than planned, and trying to figure out WHEN I'll be able to write my entry for this week. I keep telling Life to slow down and it keeps NOT LISTENING. I pretty much know exactly where to go next with the story I've got started in my last several entries, so at least there's that.

Also, I have a trial gym membership, and made it over there today. I walked 20 minutes on the treadmill, mostly at 2.0 mph on a very slight incline, then barely managed 2 minutes on the elliptical (*ouch*). I don't know if there was some way to change the settings on the elliptical (I've never used it before) but geez, ow!

I survived the weekend...by sleeping A LOT. I guess that's what happens when you get old, huh? java_fiend and I pretty much slept the weekend away. And even after he left, I still took a nap.

We also managed to catch Red Riding Hood. Not that scary for the horror fans in us, a bit Twilight-esque, but still pretty entertaining. We seemed to like it.

And this open topic is brutal, man. Just brutal.

It's a hot day today, which is annoying because the last few have been just lovely. Serves me right for thinking that summer were already over.

BUT! How cool is this? I went down to check on the chooks and one of them was up in her nesting box, wandering around and squatting a bit, and making little whining noises, and I thought, 'Oh, please be OK...' and of course, she was OK, she was just about to lay an egg. Which she did, while I watched.

Wow. Chooks are just so amazing.

I survived the weekend; my car didn't. I have to take it down to a garage in a minute to see how much of a pain it'll be to fix. Then we'll go to the library to take our books back. It's a pain only having them for three weeks as opposed to the month I was used to in NZ. At least there's no late fees for children's books though.

My weekend was full of intrigue and assumptions as to what next will happen at work. The new computer program is now calling the shots, so PT people are finding themselves with less hours than before -- there's one girl who's only scheduled for 5 hours this week :boggle:

BUT...and I almost forgot this: I'm on vacation next week! That's the other thing -- they're making everyone with certain seniority :cough: take vacation at particular times.

The Foot is fine as long as I don't stand for 8 hours...

I am way tired and slept like crap last night. Thanks DST! Staring at the digital clock on the alarm clock radio, I imagined the numbers (from my sideways perspective) being shapes -- oh, look, 1:03 looks kinda like a doggy...

the_dark_snack didn't sleep well either, which she blamed on me hogging the bed (I *never* do that! =p) and weird dreams when she did sleep -- in one we found out that the yard was full of "angel monkeys" -- no laser rifles, though.

I have to toss most of my shoes because they don't offer enough support. Sneakers are now a no-go. My work clogs are now considered the best shoes I own.

Oh, and I've dislocated two toes.

I don't think I survived the dreaded time change. I *think* I'm alive but I'm not sure. All I know is that it feels like the longest day EVER. And it's only 1015. (insert random and lengthy expletive-filled rant here)

Only had to work in the AM today, so gettin' stuff done the rest of the day. Met w The Mothership's home nurse who says her leg wound is no longer a real "wound". It looks awful cosmetically, but not nearly as evil as it did a month ago. She is recovering. Got some banking issues straightened out today too. My ATM card quit working for no good reason! Now I am running errands. Please keep doing The Job Dance for me! I want this teaching position I've applied for. Also please continue the get well waltz for work friend, CM. She's not really any better but is fighting for her life. AW

We ran our first official 5k this weekend! We picked a pretty massive event - the Shamrock Run draws 32,000 people, 11,500 of whom ran the 5k with us.

I survived the weekend, but it is a good thing I got eliminated from the competition in January because the semester of college has been so busy I wouldn't have survived in the competition anyway. I haven't even had time to write decent entries for the home game and still won't until spring break next week, but I miss hearing from all of you so much I thought I would post the link to an entry I wrote last summer. Actually, I didn't write it. My guide dog did. Since I didn't mention him during the competition, I thought it would be the perfect entry for this open topic week.
