Like a tsunami at a tsunami meet-up, who can't quite make out the name tags, and so ends up calling everyone by all the wrong names - Idol stumbles it's way into Week 17, drunkenly knocking over the table with the punch bowl.

I have two friends in Japan. I posted immediately when I found out my one friend was okay. Checked on the other friend... He's in Boston now. Way to keep track of my friends!! >.>

Now my love is being sent out to Hawaii and Cali! Stay safe guys, okay?

Carrie has a sister in law in Hawaii - they may shut down some subway service in San Francisco area.. But they're gonna monitor to see what happens in hawaii- in any case we'll probably wake up Carrie's SO and tell her to call her sister in Hawaii

And then the pragmatic and selfish side of me comes out and thinks about how everyone else's loss costs the survivors more, which means cost of living goes higher and how I need steady work even more......

I was asleep when all the news hit about the earthquake. I woke up this morning, checked my email and saw a message from a friend panicking that I was in the tsunami. So of course I did my research and Southern Cali is going to be just fine. Waves will hit this morning, but they aren't expected to be more than 2 feet and there are no evacuations.

My thoughts are with those in Japan right now. How tragic and scary. I have a friend who's husband is stationed over there and she's freaking out because she's not getting any news on him. I really hope that he's okay. They have a daughter that's not even a year old.

All these disasters are freaking me a bit out. Give us a break, mother nature...please?

I think Hollywood has totally warped us. We hear "tsunami" and some people think there will be this massive, 150-foot wall of water that breaks off half the state. When in reality, the most we have to fear from *this* particular tsunami are super-strong currents. Which, by shutting the beaches down and preventing people from getting into the water... which has been done... eliminates this threat.

But wow... the scenes of devastation over in Japan right now are just heartbreaking. And the video of the event is utterly jaw-dropping. Between Chile, New Zealand (twice), Afghanistan and now Japan... the level and intensity of seismic activity is worrisome indeed.

I went to bed early last night and hadn't yet looked at the news when I came in here... feel kind of awkward getting major news from the green room. Hah.

Anyway, do we have any NOLA Idolers? It seems that I might find myself out that way next month. Looking for ideas for great (cheap! vegetarian?) places to eat, fun things to do, etc - never been there. Also interested in recommendations on schiesty (cheap!) places to stay like motels/hostels/campgrounds.

I slept through the big waves reaching our coast. Since there is a car alarm going off outside and it isn't moving, I'm going to assume that there's no flood and we're good.

Here in Northern CA there are some coastal roads closed and some schools, just in case the surge gets too high. I guess Bay Area schools don't get snow days so a tsunami day is reasonable.

And from listening to CBS news on the radio, it sounds like aftershocks are still hitting Japan. Yikes. Makes me want to curl up under a blanket with my boy.

I hope all of you and yours are safe Idolers, wherever they are.

I found out about the tsunami by my husband asking if my friend Steph is okay. She's in Japan right now. I went straight to FB to see her status post and discover she was safe, then kept watching the life feed for all the updates by just about everyone I met in Hawaii. Was really glad to know they were okay - I don't watch/read news stuff, and FB is more personal to find out what's going on anyway. Phew!

I think the tie-breaker looks like it could be a close one!
