Welll.... I don't know anything about baseball.

As it turns out, the term can be expanded upon beyond baseball. But I already started writing about baseball (even though I dislike it intensely), so now I'm all confused.

I'm back home, napped (okay, slept) for 7 hours earlier today, got up in just enough time to get to bowling this evening. Bowled pretty well overall (158, 134, 114) and we took 3 out of 4 points, so yay us!

Heading back to bed now, gotta get up in another 6 hours and head on back for work. Here's to hoping I can find my desk under whatever paperwork has accumulated whilst I've been off the last week, LOL.

I was having coffee with an alumni whose visiting from Hungary today. He told me this story.

When he was in High School out here (he graduated ten years ago), his cousins from Hungary came to visit. They'd never been outside of Hungary, so every time they encountered something, they addressed it in terms of what they had in Hungary.

For example, if they saw a bridge, they'd say "that's not the right way to make a bridge! How stupid!"

Anyhow, my student said that growing up in Hungary and out here expanded his view of the world and made him realize that there's dozens - even hundreds - of ways to solve problems.

"I mean," he said, "as long as you can get your car across it, its a good bridge, right?"

I love this so much. It's not even just that there's hundreds of ways to solve problems, it's that there's billions of perspectives out there, and none of them is 100% "right". But if they're all building good bridges...

I didn't miss anything. I had like 5 other Idolers IMing me in the hour before the poll closed, and some of the hour after. Seriously. Who knew I was so popular? Okay, so I poked three of them first, but I can still pretend I'm popular in my mind. And this is what happens when Idol becomes our LIFE.

My mind is cooking up something sweet for this week's entry. I just hope I have the time to pull it off. I'm hoping it'll show some of why my husband is awesome if I do manage to do everything I want with it. We'll see!

Seriously, baseball?! I mean, baseball??

But now, having read some comments in the Work Room I'm a little more inspired than I was, considering not everyone will be writing about actual baseball. Which is good, because, you know. Baseball.

Aaaanyway. I'm currently sharing a peach with my son and writing the shopping list for next week (when I have to buy ingredients for our respective birthday cakes). It's hot outside and I'll go down to the bottom of the garden and spray the chooks with the hose to cool them off :)

Also, I am starting to get finger-happy about wanting to add some Idolers to my flist who I've been enjoying in the GR and reading entries of now that I've had a bit more time and I'm trying to not just add everyone I like right now all at once ;)

I'm also going to see about approaching people I like entries of and encouraging them into the GR because there are people I would like to get to know better in the GR scene.

In other news, today is Foot Crap Day. I've been up less than a half hour and the *(@$^@#&% thing is already throbbing even though the only thing I've done is get out of bed and hobble downstairs :P

Crazy kitty time! Our old kitties still spend about two minutes a day tearing around the house like mad. Usually right after using the little box. We figure they're trying to get as far away from the box as possible so imaginary predators don't find them.

Today is my last day of getting up at 4:15 am and getting to work early. It was only two days after all. Back to my apartment tonight. I actually enjoyed it. The mornings weren't as bad as I thought, even with a beastly feline attacking java_fiend all night. After really seeing the cat in action (he behaved himself before), I really feel for the guy!

He's taken good care of me though. He made me another lunch, and even some coffee and breakfast. It was rather nice to stay with him . We poll watched together and everything. We are such Idol nuts!

Well...we were awakened by the two largest cats deciding they wanted up on the very small headboard to peer out of a window covered only by a towel (they'd previously destroyed the blind for this window). Hilarity ensued as the bigger of the two decided he didn't like the ledge, got stuck, and had to be retrieved. The fatter of the the two then tried it, fell off the headboard and promptly beat the snot out of the larger cat as penalty for witnessing the disgrace.

All this before a single drop of coffee has been had.

Dee took a brief walk down the hall yesterday. They're going to let him go home next Monday or Tuesday and we'll continue the healing from there.

Florida needs to make up its weather mind. I'm freezing, needed a fire last night, and there's ice on the rims of the dog waterers. I'm so glad I didn't put my plants in the garden yet!

Indeed, no witnesses must be allowed to testify regarding the humiliating event. Our cats follow this common sense practice as well - even if the witness is me.

Foot Crap Update, Official Medical Edition!

I'm now the proud owner of a rather nifty walking cast!

(well, OK, not really nifty...um, never mind)

Imagine my surprise when the doc pressed on three different places and I nearly went through the roof.

Got x-rays. Verdict: I've somehow cracked the bone to which my middle toes attach. It's not the metatarsal...oh crap, I don't remember what he called it.

It's like when you break a toe and there's really nothing that can be done other than staying off it. Since that's impossible, they gave me the walking cast. I can drive short distances, shower, and sleep without it, but otherwise I'm to wear it for the next couple of weeks, then return for a follow-up.

And on top of this our water heater blew so much hot water all over the basement that there's condensation all over the place o.O

I've broken a toe before and it was among the lamest things ever. Taping it to the other toes was the solution at the time and, while it worked, it meant showering with a plastic grocery bag wrapped around my foot for like a month. Yuck. Stinky foot.
