How are you doing anyway?

I know that I ask and it usually goes south from there. But I know that real life has really been hammering at the door of lot of folks lately. Some get frustrated and throw up their hands, and some lash out.

Others still use the real world adversity as an opportunity to escape from it for a little while into something that isn't as life or death.

Sometimes that is all you can do, to find ways of expressing things that just can't come out in your day to day life, and have a few laughs in the process.

Wow, week 12. That's kind of a trip.

At the moment, I'm being a total typography nerd. Even though I don't work at the moment, I think my dad likes to try to get his money's worth out of my art school education by sending me random design projects that he needs done sometimes. (This one I'm completely happy to do because he is finally putting together a piano concert and I'm super proud of him. Uh, and, the draft that someone else came up with was freakin' embarrassing.)

Sometimes I am so, so, so glad I don't work in advertising... and sometimes I could just sit and move type around for hours.

So, mostly I've been doing life/work stuff and trying to finish a story. No more bye's though, but we're getting close to 75 anyway, so it's time to buckle in. I never thought I'd make it this far in the first place.

ION, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, anyone? I JUST finished watching the first two episodes. I know it's shameless gore and porn and angst, but I love it so.

I sleep better with my entries written on Tuesday evening. Well, sort of. Sometimes it just doesn't matter and I'm going to be an insomniac anyway.

My shins are feeling better and I'm hoping to be able to practice again on Friday. Tomorrow is almost certainly going to be a snow day for Alex, the question is what else will close if anything. Odds are not state offices, not in New York anyway.

And of course there's that already-recalled computer I'm building ;).

I'm happy but exhaustipated! We just got back to the room after seeing Penn & Teller - in the second row, no less - and their show is just AWESOME. I think this is like our 5th or 6th time seeing them perform live, we try to see them every time we come to Vegas, as they change parts of their show every time. =)

I've been up far too long at this point - got up around 5:45 am EST, and it is now 2:00 am EST, and all I've had is about an hour nap. Heading to bed now, methinks. G'night!

In real life news, for about a month now, when I am feeling anxious, I am finding I get an uncontrolable tremble in my right hand. This, in turn, makes me more anxious, which makes the tremble worse. Been trying to hide it. but I think its getting to a point where I had better just own it and figure out what I am going to do about it.

Well I broke the news to my daughter this morning about being voted off. Her response:

"Does this mean I don't have to write any more stories? Yay!"

Turns out she'd been finding it quite hard work recently and is happy to have a break!

It's been a funny old time recently. I've just been reading a very random thread on a forum I used to frequent that demonstrates why I don't frequent there any more and there were shenanigans on FB last night that demonstrate why I don't like going there!

I'd love to know what's happening Up There astrologically speaking because it seems to be a very argumentative time for just about everyone.

RL is just crazy but that's pretty normal for me. I need to write an article review for Foundations of Education. I did a lot of it then realized they said the article must be within the last couple years.

So, I'm starting over:(

And, of course, I must do this complicated assignment for History of the English Language.

But no one is sick right now which, with 3 kids, is a good thing.

I'm going to another town Thurs night to read a poem that is coming out in the Birmingham Arts Journal so that will be fun. It's my first thing to be accepted by that magazine. No pay of course but getting published is something.

I'm still waiting on my fingerprinting to come through so I can do my field experience for my education class.

But, over all, nothing is terrible. We are able to pay bills this month which is very good. The vehicles are working. We got the leak in the kitchen fixed.

I "escape" the real world (as needed) by writing and by hanging out online:) I don't have a lot of time for it but even when I am writing memories instead of fiction (like this week), it's at least a break from the stress of these days.

I feel fortunate that our area is not covered in snow this morning like many other people.

Good Morning GR!

Right now it's sleeting/freezing rain. This is on top of the 8" or so of fresh brand new SNOW we got overnight which was on top of the 6-7" we got yesterday. The temperature is supposed to drop, which means come this afternoon, everything will be nicely coated in ice.

'Allo! Every other office in my company closed early yesterday because of weather. (Texas, Illinois, Massachusetts, Indiana.) A lot of them will remain closed today. My weather here? 81* and overcast. *sigh*

I want days off! Why must we wait for inclement weather to get days off of work? Why not celebrate awesome weather?!

My daughter's car battery went South this AM.
Wish I could travel south, where it's warm...at least from my geographical perspective it's warm.

Happy Ground Hog Day to those who celebrate. Is GH Day a US thing, or do other countries recognize it? Would South Americans get six more weeks of summer? Maybe I should move south?

Two emails landed in my inbox this morning.
The first informed me that due to inclement weather, the university is closing. Non-essential staff are not required to come in and classes are cancelled.
I looked out the window, saw a foot of snow and that it is currently SLEETING and mentally cheered.
The second said, "AS PER DR. [BOSS], ANYONE LIVING CLOSE TO CAMPUS SHOULD PLAN ON BEING HERE WEDNESDAY. DR. [BOSS] WILL BE HERE AS WELL." Block caps in original.

Ugh. I am busting out my little-used "bitch" icon for this.

I just got told not to come into work today, due to rolling blackouts. Which I suspect were caused by the below-freezing temperatures we've got. I'm in Houston, TX -- we don't get this kind of cold, usually! I don't think we're equipped to handle it.

On the upside, I'm now happily at home, where I plan to hibernate all day.

Well it's morning and I'm back. The pets have been a handful with Miss Kitty deciding that everything on my dresser belongs on the floor at 5 am, and Annabelle making me chase her around and grab stuff out of her mouth. What a way to start the day!

I am totally baffled by this topic. I had an idea, but it's just not forming in a way I'm happy with. I'd have preferred Haute and to use my bye this week! But I don't want to take two byes in a row, so hopefully I find something good to write about!

Well, it's day 2 of looking like there's no chance in... this frozen over hell? that I'm going to be able to go out to the pharmacy for my fibro meds.

Today my goals are to do some updates for my food blog, since I may be being featured on another site (well, they definitely want to feature me - I'm waiting to see how they talk about my disabilities before I approve it).

Annnd after doing some of that, I will make handmade Valentines. I've left it off quite late, but we were in the craft store this weekend and all the stuff that looked like a giant cupid-heart-monster had just vomited pink and red sparkles just got the better of me, and I bought a few doilies and a couple pieces of scrapbooking paper to chop up into prettiness.

I'm telling you, though, this is going to be nothing like the Christmas card extravaganza... I went f*ckin' overboard with that this year.
