How is 2011 working for you so far?

Still working out on the kinks? What is Ray Davies doing in your house anyway, and why do you have him doing exercises?

If you are like me, you spent last night passed out drunk and had to find your way home this morning, from a city you have never been before, in a room full of naked people you don't recall ever meeting.

But if you aren't - then maybe you saw the announcements that went up yesterday - http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/407352.html , the special powers that have now entered the game just in time for Phase 2 and of course the Second Chance Idol - http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/407687.html

Just a couple notes on SCI: There are no byes and the special powers in the actual game cannot be used to influence anything over there. At the end of it, there will be two groups of people - those eliminated and those "back" in the real competition!

But yes, people coming into the game *is* going to impact that "using your byes" strategy. You might have to get by without them/use them sparingly for a little longer than you thought! (or shorter if enough people, frightened of their positions in the tribes, opt for taking the gamble of moving over to a second chance position! I guess we will see!!)

That's just one of the implications going forward! It should be fun!

***

Speaking of fun - keep in mind that the main competition is gearing back up soon! The break is almost over, and it's back into the thick of it!!

edit to add - The special powers thread is being updated to reflect the contestants who have received those powers, as they are officially recognized.

This is all getting pretty nutty. :)

I ended up with a killer migraine last night, but I'm feeling a bunch better today. In fact, I think I may try to work on my NaNo novel... eeek. I haven't touched it in a while. I bet the characters are mad at me.

Happy New Year, everyone!

It is StarCraft. Except technically, it takes place on the moon because I got the moon for Christmas and now I am king of it. So it is MoonCraft.

I celebrated here at home, with friends and family. Drank sparkling cider as I don't like champagne, so I didn't get drunk.

Looking forward to seeing who gets which powers - how many more folks do you need to hear from, Gary?

Happy 1-1-11 to all!

I was just thinking something, and I have a question about the special powers, Gary.

I know some of the special powers can only be used on yourself. But what happens if you have a special power that can be used on other players and you drop out or are voted out or voluntarily move to the Second Chance game before you use your power? Do you still have the ability to use your power to affect the main event?

moving over to a second chance position?? Oh my... Interesting...

I spent NYE listening to my neighbors' party (which was fine- they're usually really quiet and it was freaking NYE for heaven's sake). Hubby went to bed at 11 and I stayed up journaling and watching tv and drinking Baileys. Living la vida loca, baby!! ;)

You can voluntarily go over to SCI? Why would you do that? And is the sign up a one shot deal or if you get voted off, can you automatically join in there?

I wish Ray Davies were here. He could keep an eye on the children while I sleep off the tummy bug I picked up somewhere. I wouldn't mind spending NYD feeling like I'm hungover if I'd actually done something to deserve it!

Ray Davies is here to Give the People What They Want, of course.

I'm sitting in a 57-degree house with a broken furnace, waiting for the landlord to call back. The irony of it all. Last week someone filled our tank for us, and we're suddenly rendered unable to use it!

Back from work! Silly me thought we were going to get slammed with the college bowl crowd, but somebody told me most of the games air tomorrow :braces herself:

We're getting a free gently used Mac later today. Anyone know the learning curve if you've been using a PC for nearly all your computerized life?

From: [identity profile] puppetmaker40.livejournal.com
Pretty doggone quick. Macs are pretty intuitive over all and the on-line help is great if you do run into a problem.

From: [identity profile] xo-kizzy-xo.livejournal.com
SO says similar :) We just brought it back to the house. I first have to configure my desk area before we get it set up.

:looks around:

OMG, what am I going to do with this mash-up set up I've got????

From: [identity profile] pixiebelle.livejournal.com
I know everyone says it's a pretty easy transition and that it's so user friendly...

But I've had a Mac laptop for years and still learn something new everyday! I hated it at first, but now that's all I have and it's grown on me. I see many benefits, but also disadvantages. Many Mac people just don't seem to ever see those :p

From: [identity profile] xo-kizzy-xo.livejournal.com
I know there are instances where some PC programs don't translate easily to Mac, or, if they do, it seems to be a complicated mess (maybe it's not, but that's always been my perception). OTOH, if you're into web design, Macs are the standard in the industry...

We haven't set it up yet. We also inherited an open wooden cube that's about 30" high. My little filing cabinet would fit nicely into it and my printer could go on top of it, but now what do I do with all the detritus that's already on top of the filing cabinet??? Aieeeee!

Date: 2011-01-02 01:30 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tigrkittn.livejournal.com
I do web design from a PC. It really makes no difference.

Macs used to actually be more different from PCs - now they're basically Linux OS with the same processing chip as a PC except with an extra bit that tells it it's a Mac and can't use programs designed for PC. *eyeroll*

Date: 2011-01-02 01:28 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tigrkittn.livejournal.com
I agree with you- I don't find Macs intuitive at all. I think that's just "party line" and not based on reality. Certainly not based on a comparison to PCs.

Happy New Year!

I'm excited about this second chance news. :) Expect to see me there.

Had a great night last night. Went out to dinner, then had a nice night of eating chocolates while watching Babylon 5 and South Park.

Although, it is weird to be starting 2011 without bacon...
2011: The year Destiny remembered that vegetarians don't eat bacon?

From: [identity profile] pixiebelle.livejournal.com
I was hoping to see you there! You were gone way too soon for my liking!

Vegetarians don't eat bacon?!? Since when? Haha I always said I'd be a vegetarian if it weren't for beef. Somehow, no one else seemed to think that would count :p

This is the year that I'm going to go Vegan for at least week. This die hard meat and cheese eater is gonna give it a shot just so I can say I could do it if I felt so inclined to make the switch (even if I was only a half time vegan, it's still a tad bit better!)

What about turkey bacon?

I hear that some brands of "bacon bits" are actually soy based, so that's something to check on if you want that bacony taste without actual meat by-product. ;)

Yay for Babylon-5!

All of this new stuff makes me so excited! I love this game!

NYE was wonderful! We drank strawberry champagne and bubble gum vodka while playing Smart Ass with friends. It was a fun night! We were up until 3:30, and I slept over. I finally got to see first hand how [livejournal.com profile] java_fiend's feline controls him. But alas, he held out getting woke up at 4:30 and we slept till 10:30! Yikes!

We had our Christmas celebration this morning and I have to say I'm such a lucky girl to have such amazing people in my life.

2011 is going to be an awesome year!

Just finished getting caught up on all the news of Idol and all I can say is - iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinteresting!! Can't wait to see how it plays out.

My NYE celebration was fun, though the Sydney fireworks were a big letdown. After hearing that it was going to be the best we'd ever seen, when it was over, I was very much, "Meh" about it :( I am also still recuperating from lack of sleep. Hopefully, I won't feel so shitty for much longer *fingers crossed*

Happy New Year all.

We had a party at our house this year. Much food, drink of all sorts was consumed, and a most happy croud.

Hubby and I stood on our pourch just after midnight and listened to the city go nuts. Made me thankful to be at home safe and sound.

Even though all of us drank no one drives in our group so that was good. One friend stayed with us till this morning and we still have company as well till Tuesday. Two took a cab home and the third who went home lives just two driveways from us so she walked home.

We cooked a lot of food, and most of it is gone now. PHEW, the fridge is really full so good thing I don't have to fit more in there. Come on over for leftovers.

House is back to nornal in terms of the furniture and whatnot.

2011 is starting out pretty good so far I say. May it be good for everyone.

hmmm.... new years was interesting, so far I have not gotten as drunk as I would have liked, but hey... I'm being productive instead.

Also question, is anyone interested in a friending frenzy & a recommend an Idoler/Home Gamer/Second Chancer meme? We're considering hosting both around same time Gary posts signups for Second Chance (because it's an opportunity for oldbies and newbies [and because we just want to since we're revamping our LJ flist anyways]).

Happy New Year!

I like all these new announcements and rules. It's very different from last year. It looks like I'll have to start paying more attention now that the competition is heating up slightly, maybe try to clear out my schedule a bit.

By the way, I've got a question. For the next three or so weeks, I'm going to be working extensively on four essays I'm writing for TASP, an amazing summer program that I really want to get into. I was wondering if people would maybe like to look over them and offer some constructive criticism? I really want to get as many people to give me their opinions on them as possible.
