Season Three, Week Eleven

(Hopefully the poll will actually post, unlike the last several comments I've tried to make today.)

It was an open topic week, where contestants set their own agenda and wrote about whatever it was that was on their minds.

I think it's fair to say that this week was a wake up call, in a lot of ways.

One of those ways is that there is a general feeling that not enough people are actually *reading* the entries. So please take the time to sit down and read as many as you can. A lot of people worked hard on their entries, putting pieces of themselves out there and it's a disservice to them when someone just votes for people they happen to know, regardless of quality. So hopefully that isn't happening, or isn't happening very much.

Take the time to consider your votes, and what they mean to the people involved.

Two people will be leaving us this week, and it is up to YOU to decide which two.

Lets see, it's 7pm, and I've spent an entire afternoon of my day off reading them all. :) Nice way to spend my 'goofin' off day'.

Usually I try to catch em a few at a time through the week, but I don't like reading other entries till I've got mine in.... just to avoid any influence. But between working all weekend, and then Monday Tuesday as well, I didn't get mine in till the last couple hours.

I admittedly haven't been voting for the past few weeks BECAUSE I haven't had the time to actually read the entries. And I refuse to vote for people just because I like them. I vote because I like what they wrote! :^) I HOPE to be able to read some entries this week.

I've been voting for all entries I actually read and that stuck ... I do confess I haven't been able to read all of them ... between going nuts, looking for a house, finishing language classes, getting the apartment back in shape and generally being wiped out it's not always easy to catch them all!

Hahahahaha I used to watch Pokemon when I was in uni and had insomnia.

I am catching them all - but I had to go take a nap after the first bracket. I do adapt my votes according to what I read and keep reading so not all is lost yet ;)

Actually, that makes for an excellent point. My name is further down in the bracket. Does this mean fewer people get to read me, and thus, less vote for me? Is there a way to shuffle the people in the list randomly, or would that require too great an effort? Or am I just whining because I'm potentially getting voted out this week?

Hmm I don't know. Usually I go through the list of topics and see which titles appeal to me, so then it's very random too.

To date, clauderainsrm has wanted to keep it alphabetical.

I do know that not everyone (including myself) reads from A-Z. I generally try to read them as they come in, although I'm often several behind, and have to read more after the poll goes up.

I generally don't read any of them until I vote, so that I have a "gestalt," so to speak.

I keep a little notebook next to me and ... wow, do I get really wrapped up in this!

It's easier to keep track of everyone if it's alphabetical. Also, if it was "random" then I would be picking the order, this way it's your own fault for picking your user name!!*g*

I think it should be relatively easy to script it all.

However, just because a few people might like the names randomized, that does not mean they should be randomized. I wasn't just a programmer... I was a designer and project engineer. I even taught software development for several years.

It is easy to think about outcomes, and forget about the interface until it is too late. There are people who come just to vote for a specific person. If the entries were randomized, they may be just as likely as to not vote at all. At least this way there is an order, even if it doesn't feel ideal.

You could do them bottom down once in a while, though. You know, think outside the box? *grin*
