Today is the final day to determine what the payoff of this season is going to be - what is going to happen after nearly 10 months, who will be facing off against each other in what is shaping up to be an incredibly talented and even more cordial finale! ("No, No, after YOU.." :p)

http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/373611.html

So make sure you read and vote for the contestant(s) who have put out work this week, and over the course of the season, that have made you want to see them in the finals. (Technically that's all three of them - but everyone has an opinion on that sort of thing and taste varies greatly)

Thanks to the decision yesterday in California, it looks like everyone will be require to marry someone who is gay.
Or become gay.

I'm not sure. It's very confusing. All I know is that those ultra liberal Reagan appointed activist judges are once again out of control with their progressive agendas! :)

Seriously though, I imagine that there will be appeals filed right until the Supreme Court decides to hear the case. Possibly going back and forth.

It's going to be an interesting debate to say the least. It's just sad that we have to have it.
/soapbox.

Gary, I think this is my favorite Green Room subject ever.

I was out all evening, and when I got home I didn't check the news. I only found out this happened just as I was heading to bed.

Needless to say I am very happy, but I think it's sad that these decisions are ending up in the hands of judges because Americans aren't capable of doing the right thing in the first place.

Gary, your tagging system will always continue to amaze me. And make my inner OCD twitch with uncomfortableness... >.>

Yay Prop 8? :D I'm still hazy on the details, probably because I haven't actually read up on it, and nobody's explaining it to me.

Today I told myself I'd clean my room. I didn't. >.> I'll at least clean the entire downstairs of the house because it's in massive disarray from my weekend trip.

And gogo third place!!!

Prop 8 was a law that passed in CA which banned gay marriage that came in reaction to the state Supreme Court deciding to allow gay marriage... lawsuits were filed by a bunch of bigoted people that think discrimination is a good thing. Yesterday's ruling overturned the ban on gay marriage.

Though there are already about 19,000 gay marriages in the state... married after the state Supreme Court ruling and before the Prop 8 ban... and the state didn't 'splode or anything... can you believe it???

The judge issued a temporary stay on re-allowing gay marriages to commence pending arguments from both sides on the issue as the bigots have already notified the judge of their intent to appeal to a higher court... I'm assuming since he overturned the ban, the judge will end up lifting the stay and gay marriages will be allowed to begin again.

It was the correct ruling, in my opinion, from a moral AND a Constitutional standpoint. Screw the haters.

I'm happy about the Prop 8 ruling, but unhappy that the judge issued a stay. Bah.

Also have not done as much packing as I ought to have done. May stay an extra day for it... even though I could have an actual car ride back to Maine if I leave this evening. Decisions!

I'm sure he's just covering his bases. But I do anticipate him lifting the stay. *fingers crossed*

Morning Green Room! I figure I'd better post a comment before we're done with GRs until next season.

Not much to report here. I have to get some work done and hoping to post more of my trip report. It's also supposed to be TERRIBLE hot today, so I'm thinking of staying indoors and saving all of my errands until tomorrow.

It makes me so sad to think that there very soon won't be any more Green Rooms. Thanks a lot, Captain Bringdown. :-p

Hope the day isn't too brutally hot and you have a good one!!!

Yay on the death of Prop 8! \o/

I am currently sleepy due to the fact that intense storms kept waking me up all night. Also, after a week of nice high-80s weather, we are back to 100 degrees today. :/

I am also excited because I have been given new opportunities at work that are not only great job security, but they also are moving me into my dream career. I'm seriously psyched about the work I'm doing and its potential to impact the environment/public health in a good way.

I'm all for people marrying whomever they want (as long as they are human that is - I don't think it would be proper to marry your nephew's hampster or something)!

It's a tight race between 2nd and 3rd, I'm nibbling my nails waiting to find out who makes it!

All I have to say is, it's about time. Now here's hoping that the 48 hour stay is not continued once Judge Walker hears the arguments for and against it tomorrow. Unfortunately, I think it's pretty likely he will continue it. It could take years to settle this in court, and that could mean a *lot* of marriages to either nullify or sullenly recognize if, God forbid, the homophobic Prop 8 enthusiasts win.

I had heard rumors of one same sex couple managing to get a marriage license in hand before the temporary stay was issued, but from everything I'm reading in the news this morning, it sounds like that didn't happen. Here's hoping that we'll soon see another happy rush on city halls everywhere.

Yeah, I REALLY hope that the stay is not continued. It's just a very frustrating situation. I'm just sick of the homophobia, and especially sick of people justifying their acts of oppression and persecution as Christian actions.

I actually don't think he will continue the stay. He shredded the arguments made by the anti-equality groups and did everything short of calling them idiots. He mentioned the fact that there are already roughly what, 19,000 gay marriages in the state and that it didn't cause any sort of harm to California as the anti-equality groups claimed it would. So I really do think he'll lift the stay and gay marriages will be allowed to reconvene. That's my armchair-lawyer take anyway. :-p

G'mornin' all! I think yesterday's ruling absolutely rocked and I love the fact that Judge Walker shredded every argument the anti-equality group threw out there. I personally think it's going to make it difficult to overturn on appeal. My biggest concern is the SCOTUS only because of the current make-up of the Court. But we can at least celebrate some common-sense and a sound Constitutional ruling today for there is no reason my friends shouldn't be entitled to the exact same rights as I am.

And yeah, I think one of my favorite parts is that this was a Reagan-appointed judge. :-)

It's a good day. A very good day.

And in a couple of days now, I'll be flying on out to the Midwest to begin an awesome, fun, totally bitchin' adventure that I am totally geeked up for! Wooo hooooo!

Hope everybody is well today!!!

And yes, just a few more days until the awesome adventure begins!!!! You will finally get to see the lovely Midwest and experience the wonderful thing we like to call humidity. Ugh. Missouri makes it pretty easy to leave with weather like this.

I am very happy with the ruling in CA. Considering I am moving there, it makes me even happier. It's one of the issues I have been really pushing for big time. It annoys me that our laws are based on the Bible when we are supposed to keep religion and government separate. It's one of the biggest issues I have with our country at times. So I am glad we are taking a step in the right direction at least.

Besides that, I should be packing. Geez, so much to do and so little time to get it all done in. I just can't keep away from the GR!

Starting my cross country adventure this weekend! [livejournal.com profile] java_fiend is flying out to join me so I don't have to go alone. Isn't he just so sweet? :)

Clearly the separation of Church and State to some, means that the State can't meddle in Church affairs but the Church has free reign to meddle in State affairs. *rolls eyes*

Looking forward to the adventure!!! You know we're driving through the heart of tornado alley, right? Woooo Hooooooo!

I am happy about the ruling. But as someone who once wanted to be a lawyer, I am trying to figure out how the argument using the 14th amendment worked. As usual I am more interested in the details than the outcome.

Date: 2010-08-05 06:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] java-fiend.livejournal.com
The Equal Protection clause of the 14th provides for equal treatment under the law for all citizens. Denying gay couples the right to marry is singling out a specific group of people for different treatment under the law... specifically because "marriage" isn't a defined quantity. And that doesn't pass Constitutional muster. Which is also why you see some states moving to amend their Constitutions to define marriage as that between a man and a woman.
