Green Room - Week 36 - 4
Aug. 2nd, 2010 11:05 amGood late morning/early afternoon!!
A special thanks to
kithan for keeping an eye on things this weekend and/or not banning everyone who didn't agree to send her bacon. Unless of course she did! I should probably go check that ban list. :P
Where was I? Glad you asked!
I was attending a family reunion in rural Ohio. How rural? The roads around the house have signs telling people to "travel at your own risk" and going out on the roads in better condition we ended up behind a Amish horse and buggy several times!
It was the first time my feet were on Ohio soil since the mid-80s!!
***
What have you folks been up to??? Hopefully the Top 3 have been writing their entries http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/372154.html considering that the deadline is Tonight!!
But what about the rest of you?

Date: 2010-08-02 03:26 pm (UTC)Of to cook some food, but alas, that delicious salty meat is not something I have in the fridge.
Ohio sounds like a great place, I love the countryside!

Date: 2010-08-02 03:37 pm (UTC)Mmmm... bacon! Breakfast this morning was cinnamon toast, so I could really use a rasher of bacon right now!
Tonight is our bowling league banquet potluck & awards. I think our team wound up in 3rd, which is pretty darn awesome! I made a batch of Chocolate Mint Crisp cookies for the potluck - yum. :)

Date: 2010-08-02 03:41 pm (UTC)I took one in this morning, I have no idea how old it is, but it seems fairly young. It will lick replacement milk off my finger but I can't figure out how to get it to take the bottle. And i don't really know anything about caring for a young kitten, she is between 2-5 weeks is as close as I can guess.

Date: 2010-08-02 03:55 pm (UTC)I usually take the animal to a vet for a quick look over, scrub it down with a good flea shampoo, and then get pictures and info to the nearest humane shelter for adoption. Very young kittens are often adopted out quickly.

One other thought - make sure you keep the kitten really warm. At that young of an age, they expend all their energy in eating and growing, and they don't have the metabolism to heat their own bodies. Since this kitten isn't with its mom or its littermates, it'll need another heat source. Ideally, they should be kept at temperatures in the high 70s or low 80s. You can accomplish this with blankets - no need to crank up the heater.
And of course, one other important thing to know about kitten rescue - WE ALL NEED TO SEE PICTURES. This is possibly the most important thing to remember!

Date: 2010-08-02 05:17 pm (UTC)I will keep trying the bottle, and find an eye dropper, someone suggested that.
Did you use a special bottle, or a regular one? I have a special animal one but it came with three different nipples and I'm not sure which one to use.

Date: 2010-08-02 11:31 pm (UTC)The rubbing it around the mouth trick does tend to work. Just make sure you keep trying regardless of how stubborn the kitten seems. Sometimes they just don't know what to make of the bottle.

Date: 2010-08-02 03:43 pm (UTC)Family reunions are a feast for storytelling. Unfortunately, I missed ours this summer, which means I've got to wait three years until the next one.
I posted my last Idol thoughts (http://fourzoas.livejournal.com/145854.html) last night; they contain something of a farewell, although I hate saying goodbye.

Date: 2010-08-02 05:03 pm (UTC)I am BUSY. I am trying to get everything together and hopefully ready to move across the country by THIS weekend. I have hardly anything ready and it's scary. Trying to secure a place to live and stuff today. Also trying to figure out how to get my stuff there, that's the hard part.
Other than that, things are good here! Just really frantic at the moment (yet I still find time to check in on the GR of course!)

Date: 2010-08-02 05:14 pm (UTC)But I'm feeling a little better than I was yesterday, which is good. Maybe getting acclimated.
In good things, I've been getting lots of kitty snuggles. And soon will get some lunch.

Date: 2010-08-02 05:53 pm (UTC)Today is my last day of vacation. From what little I was told when I called to get my schedule, I don't know whether to laugh or weep with what's going on there :/

Date: 2010-08-02 06:11 pm (UTC)In other news:
Sunny here. Paid some bills, cleaned off kitchen counters and caught up on FB and a couple other on line places. I found two of my dad's cousins recently. Through them, I found that I am distantly related to one of my high school classmates on FaceBook! Small world indeed.
