Before we get to the sad part of the day, I want to take a moment to thank the Champions who came out this week for doing such a spectacular job!

There was twice as much awesome reading material than normal, from twice as many people - and that is never a bad thing. Thank you for coming back for that and I hope we can continue to see you in the Home Game.

The rest of this post isn't as good.

Because we are saying goodbye to two contestants who brought so much talent, and laughter, to the table over the course of the competition.
Today we are saying goodbye to two of the three men left in the competition:

java_fiend
notbatman

Simply put, you both are awesome and I certainly hope to be seeing you around for the remaining of the season, and hopefully next time as well. (Although I can certainly understand, notbatman if you need to rest for a little bit. *sends you good thoughts*)

Simply put, I'm heartbroken. It's worse than getting eliminated the first time around. My partner was amazing, he knows I think the world of his talents and abilities already.

Notbatman always was interesting. He never let me down when it came to entertaining me. I really enjoyed his posts throughout the season.

Don't blame yourself. At this stage in the competition, it was truly anybody's game.

I know it just gets tougher and tougher each week, and we all keep saying that, and we know it's true.

But I'd just like to say that I don't think either of these two deserved to go this week. Whether you judged them solely on their champions' entries, or on their entries, or the combined merit of their intersections with their partners, or on their cumulative contributions to the contest up until this point.

I know that the Matter of Personal Taste argument will come into play here, and it's a valid one, but I'm really, really disappointed that this is how the votes shook out this week.

java_fiend and notbatman, pixie117 and kittenboo, I think all 4 of you wrote excellent entries this week, and I'm very sorry that at this point in the competition, that clearly isn't enough.

I'm gutted. Seriously gutted. Java_Fiend is SUCH an awesome guy. I don't really have the words to express what a lovely person he is, genuine, loyal, funny, intelligent. He and Pixie117 make a great team.

And notbatman. Another favourite of mine whose sense of humour I absolutely adore and who always had such interesting, unusual stories to tell.

They both had amazing champions who did their partner proud and looking at just how high the final totals were, a lot of people clearly felt the same way.

You should both applaud yourselves for a job well done. I would especially like to give kudos to notbatman, whose writing has grown considerably over the season. As a fan of humor, I appreciate you often bringing the lighter side to the competition. This week's entry was one of your best and showed you have a serious side, too. I hope you continue to write about your family; they were some of my favorites.

And java_fiend, your unfailing creativity has been an inspiration. I never knew whether it was going to be a personal essay, a dark fiction piece with a twist, or a pointed critique of American culture. But either way, I enjoyed reading your work.

java_fiend has been a favourite of mine from pretty damn early in the contest so I always knew it was going to be hard to see him go. Now, pixie117, don't go being hard on yourself for this, either, because you were an excellent choice for a partner <3

notbatman, of course, is awesome, too. I'll never forget him being the only person to friend me immediately after I was eliminated because he thought I was awesome. And I really liked kittenboo's entry for him, too. Something tells me the timing might be perfect for him, though. What stress would he be under if he had to write an entry straight out of surgery?

I knew this was going to be a tough week in the polls. I really wanted to vote for every entry but choices have to be made, right?

Much as I'm sad to see notbatman go, you're probably right about recovering from surgery. I am really glad that I got cut the week I gave birth; because it would have been difficult to get myself focused enough to write something while recovering.

java_fiend is the sweetest, funniest, sickest individual I have met in the competition. I love him to death and hate to see him eliminated, but I am glad to have found a friend. ♥ Also, he's not just dark parlor tricks, either - his writing has improved steadily over the competition and his performance over the past few months has been golden. I am very sad to see him go.

And notbatman? Man. How can you people let go the man who brought you Rocket Crane and Vaginal Beans? The man who Stuck it to the Man with Bad Office Fashion? Who can write light-hearted personal pieces that leave you teary-eyed, and prankster pieces that leave you a little worried for his life? So much awesome in just one player.

It's a rough week. I hope you both stick around a wee longer.

I have to admit, I have REALLY been enjoying being sandwiched in the middle of two guys in the poll because it amuses the heck out of me... so I'm sad on that level.

Then I'm just sad because... I loves 'em both :( I adore java_fiend's twisted brain so much for a start, but on top of that he's one of the nicest people EVER. I'm really glad to have made such a good friend here :) Even moreso because it's one who constantly knocks my socks off with the awesome way he writes.

And as I said to another friend only a few days ago when making our fantasy top fours, I have a huuuuge soft spot for notbatman. In that I think he's the most awesome guy ever and when I think of him I think, ADVENTURES!! Seriously, he makes me want to go exploring roofs and sewers and run around at night. Almost every entry of his has made me think, favourite!! And I'm still tickled by his brazen win against his public library XD

I opened up this thread this morning with the vague dread/hope of being eliminated (hey, right now it's equal measures here). I had a dream that I was eliminated with a single vote, and the guy who beat me was notbatman. I was very alright with that since it was my vote.

Honestly, his and kittenboo's pieces were amongst my favorites this week, and he's really one of the people in the competition that just jumped out of nowhere about halfway in and knocked my socks off. He writes like nobody else in this competition, and I'm sad to see him gone, and yet wonder if he will be a bit relieved of not having to go through finding a partner/write two entries while recuperating from surgery.

java_fiend was someone whom I am ashamed to at first having confused a lot with viagra. I have no idea why really, my brain is weird with names. But the longer the competition went, the more my friends were talking about the guy, and eventually he settled into my brain with his twisted, twisted tales.

Sad to see them both go.

Thank you everyone for all the beautiful things you've said here. I wish I could address them individually. I had a great run, met a lot of awesome humans (a bunch of whom I intend to befriend when I have more time am more comfortable - feel free to take the initiative if you like) and I feel like I took part in something amazing.

It's been a great experience and I do hope to have some presence in the Home Game. (No promises.)

Thanks also for all the encouragement throughout the season which helped keep me writing week after week. It's been great.

My employer would like to thank everyone who didn't vote for me as my productivity at work should now skyrocket. :)

Big shout out for Gary, as well. It really is a hell of a thing that you've built here. I hope it treats you well.

Best of luck to the remaining contestants! Frankly, I intend to enjoy the loss of pressure.
