Spirit of LJ Idol
May. 27th, 2010 11:48 pmWhat do
tru2myart,
spydielives, tulip_in_yellow and
boxsofrain have in common?
They all ended up winning the Spirit of LJ Idol award for their season.
What IS the award?
When I introduced it back in Season 2, the premise was simple: It was the contestants taking a good hard look at themselves and each other and saying, "Well, I know they probably *won't* win - but wouldn't it be neat if. . ." and giving the award to the person that they best thought captured the essence of their season.
That premise is still the same - the award goes to the person that you, the current contestants, feel best represents you, collectively and "the Idol experience".
There IS a "special power" involved. Every season it's a little bit different, but one thing is always the same, this *will* give the individual who becomes the Spirit an edge. So hopefully the person you select will be someone that you feel will use it wisely (or at least in your best interest. :P)
Sometime between now and the topic deadline (Tuesday at 9pm EDT) the 19 current contestants need to send me an email at clauderainsrm@gmail.com with the names of the contestants *in order of preference*. 1 to 19. (including yourself. 1 being the person you believe represents this season as a true Spirit of the Game.)
Obviously the sooner everyone sends them in, the sooner I will announce. :D
Congratulations to all of you for getting this far - and I hope you take this opportunity to give this special honor to one of your own as a chance to reflect on everything that has happened up until this point - and you want to see this play out.
BTW - While you are emailing me - send me TWO TOPICS you would like to see used. They may just appear between now and the end. :p

Date: 2010-05-29 04:51 pm (UTC)The same argument for "why does it have to do be someone still in the competition?" Because this is something honoring people still in the competition, and one of the benefits of it tends to be something that ends up impacting the next to last "stage of the game". I'm not going to hand that out to the general public. No offense to the general public. Love you guys. :)
You just don't get this particular thing.
:P
Date: 2010-05-29 08:55 pm (UTC)Re: :P
Date: 2010-05-30 06:13 am (UTC)But for someone to win the Spirit twice they would have to find a way to give something special back to two very different groups.
As a side note, just because it's on my mind right now - I always have to cock my head to the side when I see people saying what a great experience they have had and how much they have enjoyed it, and then talking about changes they should make, or "special rounds". Seasons come and go, the contestants come and go - the relationships they form are special and I hope remain forever. But people who put themselves through this process know that there is something a lot more than the sum of it's parts involved in Idol, and that's not accidental or a coincidence.
Advocating, or supporting people who advocate messing with it, or me for that matter, (or going head to head against it) - that's just a shitty way of saying "thanks".
/rant.
Re: :P
Date: 2010-05-31 03:19 am (UTC)Yeah, I think I would have to agree with you. Of course, maybe that is why I am a "villain" (or at least misunderstood). I would put the game, the other players, and their experience of the game ahead of my own ambition to ultimately win it. Anyone who does that has to be crazy, or have some sort of ulterior motive.
I know I have said it before, but I haven't said it since some recent events, so... Thank you. For everything.
*kicks you before this gets out of hand*
Re: :P
Date: 2010-06-01 02:10 am (UTC)The thing I like about this is that, just as Survivor is always adding little twists and tweaks to its formula, each LJI season brings little changes and additions here. I hope if I happen to come up with some suggestions, you don't take it as "I love what you're doing, now do it completely different." Since you're the "producer" of this show, you call the shots. If I or anyone else suggests something lame, ignore it.
That said, I don't have anything really to add to what you've already got going so well -- though, come to think of it, it would be interesting to see how you work in a virtual "Exile Island" =)
Re: :P
Date: 2010-06-01 03:21 am (UTC)By the sounds of some people who want to have "photo only weeks" or "6 word entry" weeks, etc, I think they are missing the big picture about what this is about. Those are neat concepts, in theory, but ultimately they are gimmicks. If you want to play with gimmicks OK, but you best also be able to bring the chops as well. Because otherwise people can see right through you.
(which has nothing to do with *you* Beldar, but I got on a roll with the ranting. :p)
I actually have played around with the idea of an Exile Island. Unfortunately in cyberspace I haven't quite found the thing that makes it *work* - yet. :)
