Gary, you're killing me. An OPEN TOPIC? Followed by ANOTHER topic? I have no clue how I'm gonna get everything in on time. But I'm so honored I actually got to the point of double-topic weeks. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I'd get this far.

I have been dressed by a three year old, despite my telling her that I already had my clothes ready because I laid them out last night. I guess she's getting her back on me for all those times I insisted she layer up to stay warm, but I must admit that the top she's got me to put on over what I planned to wear does look good, even if it's dark navy over black. And at least the socks don't match this time (I haven't worn matching socks for over 20 years and it freaks me out those days she insists I do so. The things I do to oblige my children...).

Since it is Mother's Day, I am going to disappear off soon and spend most of the day not being a mother. It's the least my family can do when there wasn't even any flowers and only Miss Three made me a card (the husband hasn't figured out yet that he actually needs to sit down with the children if that's going to happen).

Do you mean you haven't worn socks that match each other (as in, one blue sock and one red striped) or socks that don't match your outfit (as in, two red socks with a navy top)?

Both and neither. I like to wear odd socks that match each other, so they're usually complementary in some way. But I don't really bother to match them to whatever I'm wearing, although since my three year old often has a say in what else I'm wearing, that tends to be mismatched a lot these days too. I probably should stop listening to her, but I don't want to hurt her feelings.

As far as why it freaks me out, it just doesn't feel normal. What I find very amusing is that wearing odd socks really weirds a lot of people out. I don't see why what I choose to wear on my feet should matter to other people but it does, surprisingly often. Wearing socks that are the same is just... odd.

In real news, I survived chaperoning a high school prom and had the best evening of my life. I think I'm a certified old fart when all I really want is a good snuggle and a glass of sweet scuppernong wine to end the night.

Oh, and getting psyched to watch Betty White host SNL tonight - should be an improvement, right?!

Hello from Baikonur, Kazakhstan, where today (it's the 9th here already) marks the commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Germany in the "Great Patriotic War" (aka, "the Eastern Front").

The dialup speed here makes using a webcam completely and thoroughly impractical. If you used it to take a still picture, it'd finish going out the local pipe by the time I was headed home from this assignment.

But I checked to make sure the blue LED was off anyway.
