Green Room - Week 24 - Day 6
Apr. 29th, 2010 08:17 amI got a phone call yesterday.
See - I didn't forget. :)
It was from a former contestant/old friend of mine who has found herself involved in the planning of a new convention in Tampa.
Apparently they were sitting around in her apartment brainstorming and at one point the organizer noticed Idol Musings sitting on the shelf. She was familiar with LJ Idol, but had never made the connection that she was sitting in the apartment of someone who actually *knew me*. (apparently that was exciting. *shrug* I know me. It's not that exciting. ;) )
Discussion then turned to the idea of INVITING ME TO THE CONVENTION AS A GUEST.
So, later that day I ended up getting a phone call.
There will be a table with copies of Idol Musings for sale. There WILL be a "Idol related" panel - I am still working out who will be on it, although there has already been a couple folks contacted, let me know if you plan on being there and are interested in taking part. No guarantees, but I figured I would throw that out there.
Since Season 2, someone has always piped up with the comment "WE NEED TO HAVE AN IDOL CONVENTION!!!"
Well, it's not an "Idol Convention" - but it is IDOL BEING RECOGNIZED AT A CONVENTION. So make your travel plans accordingly!!! :)
It's October 8-10 in Tampa, FL. A nice place to be at that time of year!!!
It is a new con, so details are still being worked out - but I still thought it was pretty darn cool.

If you're even "kind of/sort of" in the area (and over 18)- or think you can get down here for it, I'd love to see you!!!

So, what exciting and unexpected news have YOU gotten this week?
****
Speaking of exciting and unexpected - the fate of your favorite writers (future panelists????) is in your hands!!!

Date: 2010-04-29 12:30 pm (UTC)But it is awesome news alltogether :)
My fate stinks so far, by the way haha.
No exciting news either - we looked at a too good to be true ad for a house and it turned out too good to be true!
Green Room - Week 24 - Day 6
Date: 2010-04-29 12:36 pm (UTC)My surprise this week was my dad ending up in the hospital. He was doing a bit better yesterday, so that's good. One day at a time.
Read everything and voted last night. No time to comment, because I have too much going on this week. Was lucky to even get an entry posted. And now for nervousness.
Ready to eat my scone.

Date: 2010-04-29 12:45 pm (UTC)My exciting and unexpected news I got this week is that I finally got a design accepted into one of the magazines I've been trying to get into for years. So that made me seriously happy.
Read all entries and voted last night. Sorry I didn't comment, I was reading at 1am 'cause it was the only free time I had to do it.
Other than that, juggling deadlines along with a newly found social life. Last night was spent working while someone came over to visit with me (he knew I was working and was content to sit next to me while I worked). :)

I get to go out with

Date: 2010-04-29 02:17 pm (UTC)I get the pleasure (*snort*) of going to an "Anti-Harrassment and Professional Conduct in the Workplace" Training this afternoon from 12:30-4:30. Whee. Is that exciting enough for ya?
I'm hopeful that if I pick up a Starbucks along the way that'll help get me through the afternoon...

Date: 2010-04-29 02:29 pm (UTC)I didn't really get any exciting news, but we did end up with a rather adorable stray dog that we have semi-adopted. We've posted signs in the neighborhood, an ad on Craigslist, an ad on the local animal shelter's website...but no bites. So, we may end up with a THIRD dog. Sheesh!

Date: 2010-04-29 02:32 pm (UTC)I don't think I've received exciting news this week...which is okay. This week is low-key b/c the Ugly Project is in a lull and I have a lot of free-time on my hands. I actually have time to relax in the evenings and stuff - so cool!
I do get to go chaperone a high school prom next week, though...which gives me an excuse to buy a fancy dress. Though the idea of watching a bunch of teenagers grind for two hours doesn't really excite me. :D

Date: 2010-04-29 02:32 pm (UTC)My son probably thinks it being his 5th birthday today is more exciting, but he doesn't know shit about shaving, yet... Kids these days, right?

Date: 2010-04-29 02:41 pm (UTC)Unexpected news today? Not much. Just got back from Johns Hopkins Hospital's Lupus clinic, where we ICD 710.0'd me: aka, confirmed my diagnosis as Lupus, along with a bunch of other crap. Steroid shots, bi-weekly blood draws... lots of exciting stuff in my future.
/bitter. I'm more excited about the Florida thing and the people who can go to it. That is so awesome!

Date: 2010-04-29 02:49 pm (UTC)I'd scheduled time with a friend for her to cheer me on as I decluttered on Saturday...but I think we're just going to go to lunch instead.
I was quite surprised to check my Facebook-linked e-mail (which I only check once a month or so) to find that a friend/former co-worker wanted to talk to me about doing freelance writing and editing for the company he's now with! *Eight days ago.* I felt terrible and promptly e-mailed him back, and he was fine and still interested in getting my help! Extra cash FTW!

Date: 2010-04-29 03:03 pm (UTC)I am ok with not having any unexpected news... The good or the bad kind. Low drama is ok right now. Universe, just get us through the school year, if you can.
Last night I baked goodies for my work buds. Thursdays is "Sunshine Day". Cheezy, corny name, but food and friending are the thoughts that count. Made lime bars and brownies. My stuff was a big hit. As just a sub, I'm not obligated to help provide treats, but I wanted in on the fun anyway since I am with these people so much. A few of them I have known for years.

Date: 2010-04-29 03:28 pm (UTC)I haven't gotten any earthshattering news this week, but I have just overall had a *good* week so far. Catching up with my friends from my old department, bonding with my new coworkers, NOT killing the cat - I have no complaints this week. :)

I do have some exciting/scary/completely and totally unexpected news, but you'll have to wait another week or two to find out about it.

Date: 2010-04-29 04:47 pm (UTC)Nothing unexpected around here really. I have sort of been under the weather since waking up actually. The whole unemployed thing is getting to me, along with other issues.
Hubby comes home tomorrow from his work trip :( Most women would be happy, but yeah...I can't wait to get out of here.
