Results - Week 12

This week was all about partnerships and figuring out how to play well with others. I think there was some spectacular results, both on an individual and on a team level. Some people really got into the spirit of it, which I love seeing.

So that's my thumbs up for the week.

Now for my thumbs down. Or rather *potential* thumbs down, because it didn't end up impacting anything in the short run, but I'd rather not have to make the call if it does. I know there is only so much that can be done to contain people who want to help, obviously you want to encourage them - but please encourage people *not* to use inactive journals. I know there are people out there who have LJs but don't actually post in them. They have them to read their friends locked posts. My own mother has a LJ for that purpose! Hi Mom!!!

But when I start seeing new(er) accounts without activity I start looking at it. Heck, when I see limited activity I take a closer look - or various other types of behavior consistent with someone trying to stack the deck. As I said, it wasn't anything that affected anything - nor do I particularly think that any contestant even knew about it. But this season has been relatively free of such things. (an account here or there but nothing worth writing home about) In fact it's one of the most free I've seen it in quite some time. Which says a lot about you guys and your FL. You should be proud of that.

If it's too much of a red flag, and the vote is close enough, I will have to investigate the account even more thoroughly than I already am and assess the situation as needed. I would hate for it to come to that, so I just wanted to make sure, while I had your attention, to address it so everyone is on the same page and we can move forward.

Now for the even *more* thumbs down portion, where we have to say goodbye to people. It's a sad part of the Idol process. Unfortunately to get to the end, it is what is going to keep happening week after week.

This week was particularly bad for returning faces it seems.

As for the voting drama. It's sad that people may be cheating with the votes. I'm enjoying the competition and I want to stick around, but I can't imagine cheating to do so :( The silly thing is that if you're cheating in the contest now with over 90 people still competing, there's no way you could actually win the contest like that, unless you started creating dozens of dummy accounts.

As I said elsewhere, and want to make sure that I beat over everyone's heads - I don't think that any contestant is actually aware of it. The problem being of course,if I see it happening and it *does* affect the outcome, those votes are going to be called into question and I will have to make a call.

I've had to do it before. In many ways I do it every week to a greater or lesser extent. I'd just hate for someone to think "I'm safe" and it turns out their buddy got a little too happy with the writing journals they hadn't used since they opened it in 2004 or the rpg character they were going to update every week but never quite got around to it. Or worse, the account they set up yesterday. . .

People are people, they are going to get a little trigger happy. I know this and have dealt with it before. The thing with folks this season, thus far, is that the "questionable votes" this time have been so low, that even a small spike is enough that I wanted to make sure that I put the thought out there, and remind people that I am paying attention.

I have quite a lot of real life friends who have no interest in LJ but love me to pieces and have been here through many of my incarnations just because they love my writing. I haven't been shy telling them that I'm in this contest and many of them have joined the com just to support me and the other people I think are aces. Unfortunately, this means that many of them don't have much content on their journals (just because they don't really enjoy journaling). Will this present a problem, Gary?

Oh no! I feel bad now because kenakeri and kiwiria were BOTH on my super-good this week and I didn't rec them inmy rec list for one reason or another. Gary is saying that sometimes people create journals with the sole purpose to help someone along with votes - so basically they are cheating because it's easy to create say 10 journals and only use them to vote for one person, while it's just one person behind those journals. And that's not allowed :)
