Idol's heart goes out to the People of Haiti.

It also goes out to the People of Walmart. But that's an entirely different story.

I'm sure people will be posting various ways to help, please make sure that they are legitimate organizations and efforts. There are times when the best of humanity is revealed, and they are often enough the times when you can see some of the worst.

100% of the proceeds from our next elimination will be going to the aid effort. (note - we don't actually get any money from the eliminations - however I am willing to send the contestants eliminated to Haiti - provided that they are able to pay for all costs involved)

***

I've heard that the Doomsday Clock will be moving. I suspect that it has to do with this week's eliminations.

***

Are your pants on the ground???

***

You only have a couple more days to get in your entry: http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/289723.html

Is yours in yet?

As well as those working for WalMart (my mum works there. Oh the stories I could tell)

Doomsday clock? Well, then, at least I wouldn't have to pay back my student loans.

Last night I donated $50 to Yele Haiti (www.yele.org). As a bonus for my generosity, [livejournal.com profile] zia_narratora is going to draw me a picture. This is the most money I've ever donated at once (it's also the first time in my life that I've been in a position where I wasn't just trying to scrape by).

I'm curious about the Doomsday Clock. I can speculate on reasons for it moving forward or moving backward, which makes it much more interesting event.

My pants are not on the ground. Although, they are creeping downward a bit when I sit down. That's the problem when your low rise pants get a little large and you don't have a belt. :( Luckily my shirt is long.

And no, my entry is not in. Ugh. I need to find a direction and quick!

Thank you to all those who responded yesterday - we have had confirmed news now that the orphanage my godson is in was damaged but that the children and their director are alive and well.

As I have been reading lists and lists of missing people on the net since yesterday, I do ask everyone to keep all of them in your thoughts and prayers, we were lucky to have confirmed news so early but many are not in this position.

And as for now, I will go catch up with work and perhaps write an entry or such a thing.

My parents do mission work in Haiti, and adopted a son from there. They support a woman who runs an orphanage that has grown from 13 to 31 children. One was lost last in the quake, but, as she'd spent a few years in California growing up, she'd drilled it into all of them that in the case of tremors, they should sleep outside, so all but one remained safe. They buried him in their yard, next to an infant that had been lost about 2 year ago. Because the phone lines are down, they've not heard anything about their church community there, but are praying for the best. That location was a bit more north of the primary area than west, so their assumption is the damage would not have been as severe.

Gary, I hope this is okay. I'd like to add my entry here. It's a list tentative list of organizations (all legitimate) that you can donate to if you'd like to help with the Haiti relief response. The reason I'd like to add it here is because I think there will be a lot of people participating in the green rooms that might not read all the entries and I feel this list is important to get around. I'm sorry if it's not appropriate. Please let me know if it's not and I'll take it down. Thanks. :)

and

The second is a 'Box of San Francisco", starting at $10. (http://community.livejournal.com/help_haiti/2138.html?thread=713050#t713050)

I'm also pimping stuff on my flist. (http://ladymako71.livejournal.com/414644.html) Whether you are on my flist or not. There are so many wonderful and talented folks offering up their time and skill to help the desperate situation in Haiti.

Busy-busy. I feel bad about being out of touch with the latest news out of Haiti, but it's probably just as well that I don't have tv or intenet hooked up here. I spent like 6 hours watching people discuss the same handful of facts over and over after the Ft. Hood shooting.

Just about all of me has been on the ground lately, dead tired and fed up with morning sickness (it's not just for mornings anymore!). On the plus side, I've lost 5kg, my butt is definitely smaller and the arms on my shirts are looser. On the down side, given that my belly is expanding, other parts of my clothes are getting tighter.

I'm thankful to not really be involved with the Haiti response. I'm not up for working a disaster right now. Trying to be hopeful that this big flow of aid into the country isn't a quick deal and that some of this money and manpower will stay behind and help to rebuild.

Really hoping that the security situation in Haiti stays calm for the sake of the people and those coming to help. Don't forget, there wasn't a massive peacekeeping force there for nothing.

My heart also reaches out towards Haiti. I hope that those who are missing will be found quickly and that the help that's being sent is helping those who need it.

Other than that, just got off the phone with a colleague (one of the downsides to this job is that my friends and colleagues aren't just down the hall) catching up about the last trade show convention. Now I'm an hour behind on work, but going to hop to it now. Oh well, the convo was worth it.

*SIGH*

I just printed 1400 of the wrong receipts. Luckily I caught my error before they got mailed out. But, it also means that I just spent an hour and a half of my work day doing the wrong thing. And now I have to print 1100 of the correct receipts. Which will likely take me another hour of so...

And the work on my desk keeps piling up.

BAH. So ready for my weekend.

ETA: I could use an Easter Egg of my own today. :(
