Green Room - Week 6 - Day 5

This is the part of stage 1 of an Idol season when real life starts hitting the hardest. People start getting busy with holiday plans and family issues and the next thing you know they either have to drop, or they get distracted.

Compared to December, NaNoMo is nothing. It's a big part of why we have the "byes" in place, to get you through this time of the year.

It's one of the reasons why I really like having Idol start out over these months, because if you can keep your focus now, with all the potential problems and issues that you need to deal with, it bodes well for you being able to do it in the future when things get tighter and there are other types of distractions. And of course it means you are more likely to see just how much you can manage to pull off when you put your mind to it.

That said, RL does take priority, and we have to say goodbye to another contestant today. You never know who it is going to be next, and I don't think any of us were really expecting to be saying goodbye to her quite so soon: foolishfiddler has left the building. (Well, the competition, she's still going to be around to read!) But that is how the ball bounces sometimes and what makes December so challenging for people.

So, sorry to see you go - and everyone else - congratulations at getting one more space closer to winning this thing! :)

I'm pretty sure my cat is turning off my alarm. If anyone has evidence of this please let me know so that I can use it when I put her on trial!! Cat trial!! (that should be a TV show. Like a People's Court, but with cats)

My cat does that, too. Usually when I've been up silly late and really need my sleep. And I feel bad ignoring her when she does that, as I want to encourage her to get in bed with me more.

Good morning all. We overslept here, as well -- I think it has something to do with the expectation of snow in the DC Metro area this weekend.

This is why our cats aren't allowed in our bedroom. :) Instead, they are the alarm clock as they will sit outside the bedroom door and let you know if you have overslept and therefore are late on feeding them.

Not much going on here today. It's rainy and chilly out and that's sapping my motivation. I really need to update my professional blog, but just not feeling that either. Time for more liquid motivation.

I'm hoping I should be good to post next week, depending on when voting ends, which I'll need because I'm flying to Geneva next weekend and I don't know what my Internet is going to be like for a month after that! It's exactly what I've been saving my byes for.

I'm definitely seeing that December is shaping up to be a busy month for everyone else as well!

Yeah, I definitely have been saving my byes in case things get crazy with travel/holidays. Fortunately I didn't have to use one while I was in Maine. Which means I have a safety net for December/January. I end up with crazy overtime at work during this period, so it's nice to know I will have the option if I just can't handle it.

Real life is a crazy thing that creeps up on you - I've got panto performances every single day except Sunday (and Christmas and New Years Eve) right up til the end of January, but I'm going to try my hardest to keep in with Idol!

Sorry to see foolishfiddler leave this soon! I've enjoyed the entries I've read from her. Real life can be tough sometimes, though. Also, I agree--December tends to be the most difficult month. Last night I did my first bit of overtime for the holiday season, and there's definitely more to come. Eek.

I also got my entry posted last night. Hopefully people will enjoy it! I pushed myself to write something outside my usual comfort zone, since that's part of why I joined anyway. And now that I'm done, I've started slowly making my way through the other entries and commenting to folks. (aka: getting back into the swing of things).

My cats are not allowed into my bedroom because they are pesky little boogers. They probably would mess with my alarm, though, if they had the chance. Tricksy catses.

Cat trial sounds like a good idea. I recently had to sit in a local court with one of my clients for a housing code violation, and trust me... the cats would have more intellectual conversations on trial than some of these people would.

I have my take on the topic in my head, it's just finding the time to WRITE. I've been working non-stop since November 15th, and my weekend is also slammed. Like others, my cat is usually my alarm clock. Not so much anymore because she is used to me sleeping in since I have no job, but back in graduate school, I could sleep later every other day and this confused her. She would always try waking me up at 6 AM every morning with kisses to the face.

Now my dog is usually the one waking me up in one way or another....

Oh, and off topic, I got pretty creative last night when I couldn't sleep and wrote a second just for fun entry for the week. It isn't edited or planned over too much, just for fun, but you guys are welcomed to come over to my journal and read it if you like the topic that much and want even more entries to read :)
