Happy Armsitice Day!

(The US has a different focus altogether on it, - Veterans Day - so happy that too!)

Happy Remembrance Day to those weirdo foreigners to the north.

The new topic is up. Or rather, the Choose Your Own Adventure topic(s are up!

There is also a run off between [livejournal.com profile] danialtravieso and [livejournal.com profile] marjory happening

http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/268414.html

While over there, you have the chance to say goodbye to the latest group of contestants leaving us.

Not enough going on? How about "99,941 comments received" as of this moment. What does that mean? It means someone today is going to be the one to claim the 100,000th comment. Who will it end up being? Unlike 'FIRST'! that's something that is going to only come around once!

100,000 have been achieved! Congratulations to all of us. It's one of those ticks on the odometer! It appears that this one was claimed by [livejournal.com profile] chalkolitlover!! (or maybe [livejournal.com profile] kittenboo - heh, you guys can fight it out!)

Here's to 100,000 more!

Still not enough? Then I'll break character a bit and point you toward a couple cool "fan series" that I've recently discovered:
Love the Joker? Who doesn't? Our own season 1 winner [livejournal.com profile] tinhuviel actually does some promotional work with this guy: http://www.youtube.com/TheJokerBlogs or thejokerblogs.com

There is also a fan made "Dr Horrible prequel" that was released last night: http://www.horribleturn.com/watch/

Speaking of fan efforts, it's always worth a visit to see what is going on over at www.ljidol.info!

All of that should be enough to suck that last bit of free time away today!! But just in case - What else have you got going on?

Hope the vaccine fog is worn off for you by morning.

It's a pretty long flight, I should be ok by the time I get there.

Our medical service gave me anti-malarial drugs too but I don't really want to take them.

Ew, I've never had to take anti-malarial drugs, but from what I understand they can be nasty :makes a face:

OTOH I'm pretty sure malaria is nastier!

It's definitely nastier, but the risk is really marginal, and given that it's a Dengue fever outbreak, I'll be taking max precautions against being bitten anyway!

I think I took some of those when I was 13 and we went on holidays to the Dominican Republic, as far as I remember I was fine!

I took them before and had some trouble sleeping. Then again that could have been jetlag. I just hate taking things if it's not really necessary.

Hmm sleep trouble can be a wide variety of things but I found it's often a reaction to vaccines because they tax your immune system.

Is the risk of getting malaria that slim?

Date: 2009-11-11 01:45 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tamaraland.livejournal.com
The risk season there is April-November. There's a dengue outbreak, so I have to take bite precaution anyway, and there has been a nationwide mosquito eradication effort for the past few days, with government teams still spraying for insects.

Overall, it's pretty slim.
