Green Room - Week 1 - Weekend Edition
Oct. 17th, 2009 09:04 pmI didn't write the first entry at Idol.
hilhilbean did. She was my very first assistant and was the one who pushed me to set up a community for this thing. I was just planning on keeping it in my personal journal the way it was for the first season!
*chuckles* Yeah, that wouldn't have lasted long!!
Instead we are at a milestone.
More of a "isn't that an interesting fact" than anything else. But we are here just the same.
One of the things that I told people who were wary about "signing up for ANOTHER community" back in those days was that I was going to avoid posting too often.
I would do the daily Green Room. But on the weekends it would be combined to just one to cover it. If the Green Room ever died down (as it does later in the season) and I thought people weren't using it as much, I would post it every couple of days.
Voting would be kept between lj-cuts so not to take up too much space on your friends list.
I had seen far too many communities that posted every last thing that crossed their minds, as separate posts - and I wanted to avoid doing that.
What I'm getting at is that we took a different road from so many other communities out there, one that I think has been quite successful.
And today, with this post, I am posting our *1,000th* post.
Kind of weird when you stop and think about it. In some ways it should be much higher. In others - wow.
I just wanted to point it out though, while it the season was still young, that Season 6 was already seeing some remarkable achievements numbers wise. . .
Reading what has already been submitted, I'm sure that you will be see that we are seeing some remarkable entries as well:

Thank you to everyone who over the years has made these posts worthwhile - and especially to those of you who continue to do so!! :)

I asked a few significant folks from Idol past to share some thoughts on the start of this season - and between now and when we hit the 100,000 comment mark (we actually aren't very far) I will be sharing them. The first is from our very FIRST winner

Date: 2009-10-18 01:25 am (UTC)Today has been nothing but stumbling over stones. Unsuccessful shopping trip, grumpy mood, and still not happy with my attempts at my post for this week's topic. I hope everyone else's weekend is going GREAT though!:D

Date: 2009-10-18 01:30 am (UTC)My biggest stumbling block is that I keep procrastinating on applying to take classes. One of the perks of my job is that I get tuition waiver for up to two classes a semester. But, I've yet to take advantage of it, for a number of reasons--all of them more excuses than anything. So, I've got to find some way to confront these demons and work up the motivation and courage to apply.

Date: 2009-10-18 01:32 am (UTC)Milestone? I managed to stay up until 9:30. I live such an exciting life!
I'm reading entries gradually and there have been some really great ones. I'll read more tomorrow.
Hopefully people will be chatty tomorrow but for now I need to sign off. Just wanted to pop in here and say hi!

Oh, and there's this "topic 1" entry I need to write...

Date: 2009-10-18 01:37 am (UTC)Perspective...I guess. You run in seasons and such.
This is the first time I've participated, I actually heard about LJ Idol back in...Season 3 I think. But I was much to scared to even think about it. I forgot about it until last season when
This weekend I'm struggling with the dreaded Too Much Homework, Too Much Housework, Preparing for my Fur-Baby (a puppy), and I've done not much of anything today because I've had a rather high-pain day.
*sigh*

Date: 2009-10-18 01:47 am (UTC)Biggest stumbling block so far this weekend was the migraine that hit this morning (while I was sleeping, I've learned it starts invading my dream on the mornings I'll have one). Ended up not going to the baby shower I was supposed to go to. I think it was my anxiety triggering it because I wasn't super excited about going because I didn't know the person throwing it (just the expectant mother).
But, the weather has finally cooled here in FL. We're down to a fabulous 64 degrees right now (down from mid 80s at this same time of night a couple of days ago)! Had the house opened up all day today. :)

Date: 2009-10-18 02:09 am (UTC)My weekend has been pretty low key which is nice but sad as well. I have spent most of the day either being lazy or slowly making my way through entries.
The sad part of the weekend is that I found out the studio I have been taking my belly dance classes for about 3 and half years is closing down. So my instructor is looking into new places to rent space but if that falls through I need to hunt down some other places to take classes. I really hope I don't have to though I love this instructor to bits and she understands me well.
The weather has finally been fallish rather then winter like so hopefully tomorrow the husband and I are going to take a walk through a local nature preserve (and hopefully I will bust out the camera as well).
I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. I should log off and go watch a movie with the hubby.

Date: 2009-10-18 02:09 am (UTC)She has very bad separation anxiety so I'm afraid of her not eating. I'm sure she'll be just fine in the end. I mean, people will go a week without eating and bounce back... but I will never do this again without getting a full time "sitter" even if I have to pay for it. :\

Date: 2009-10-18 02:10 am (UTC)No big milestones here for today. I did get my six week grades in and, although I'm not quite on high honor roll (stupid grading system; if we had the ten point scale instead of the stupid one we have now I would have high honors), I do have two 100s. So that is making me very happy.
Am planning on writing a paper on The Catcher in the Rye tomorrow and writing Bio notes on photosynthesis. Ugh.

Date: 2009-10-18 02:10 am (UTC)The biggest stone I'm tripping over currently is my post for this topic! Arrrrgggghhhhh!
Just got back from seeing Paranormal Activity though... after getting shut out at the box office last night! Well worth the wait though. Seriously AWESOME. Not your typical fright-fest though... it builds the tension and keeps you on pins and needles. So freaking good. Go see it!
And since my niece was so freaked out by it, I am currently plotting ways to torment the girl... what I wouldn't give for a set of walkie-talkies right about now.

Date: 2009-10-18 02:36 am (UTC)I just got back from dinner with my future sister- and brother-in-law (who is also my best friend). Future SIL took the two of us out to celebrate our 25th birthdays -- mine was in September, and his was on Wednesday. The quarter-century mark is definitely a milestone! And I turned in my thesis prospectus this week -- another milestone (though sometimes it felt more like a stumbling block!).

Date: 2009-10-18 03:19 am (UTC)Milestones... well, October tends to be a little slow in the milestone department in the world of Thali. But, I think we're going to have our first hard freeze here in Ohio tonight, which means the crops should start coming out any day now and I'll be able to see for miles again! No more corn fields-- hurrah!

Date: 2009-10-18 04:23 am (UTC)Friday night I headed out to a book release/concert for Royal Flush. I took over 200 photos of bands and friends.
I got home at about 3 or 4 AM. I'm not sure...and I wasn't even drunk. No really, one needs to drink alcohol to be drunk, I didn't touch the stuff... but taking photos is like getting high.
Saturday my bro and I headed out to the Rockaways to check out some graffiti and found GOLD! Like a treasure trove of graff. So excited!

Date: 2009-10-18 05:05 am (UTC)My biggest milestone going on right now is buying my first car. Up until now, my dad's always bought my cars ($100 fixer-uppers), but my graduation present (a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville) decided to crap out last week, and he's now back in MI and I'm in OK, so I have to get a new car since I can't afford to get mine fixed without my daddy nearby. So later this week I'll take possession of my boss' 2006 Chevy Trailblazer (not the car I want) for 6 grand paid in increments off $300 every third week (aka, every third check). This adult thing... not a big fan.
